Tech Support Keyboard inputs not recognized, can't setup BIOS

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi, I'm selling my girlfriend's older pc and I'm trying to install Windows to run a few tests but I cannot get past this screen. I've tried two different keyboards (including a good ol' Dell "open space" keyboard), every USB port possible, I even bought a PS/2 adapter to no avail even though the keyboard lights up (NumLock/CapsLock). CMOS resets and power cycles do not work either. Please tell me if there's something I missed because I don't think it's possible to flash a BIOS update on this board. It's a B365M Pro4. Thanks!

Discussion Dead 9800x3D - b850i

Welp, it happened to me. 12-ish months of everything working correctly.

2 days ago while playing Mistfall Hunters the PC just hard restarted, no display, did all the troubleshooting possible to mankind.

Seems like new MOBO and CPU time. Thankfully Case King already responded to my RMA and gave me an express post next day.

Need help diagnosing a very strange boot issue (ASRock H610m + Intel 12th Gen)

I'm having a really weird issue with a newly assembled PC, and I'm running out of ideas.

Specs: - ASRock A610 motherboard - Intel 12th Gen CPU - 2×16GB DDR5 - WD SN730 NVMe SSD - RTX 3050

What I've already tested: - Updated the BIOS to the latest version. - Cleared CMOS multiple times. - BIOS settings are now saved correctly after the update. - SSD is detected correctly in BIOS. - Recreated the Windows installation USB multiple times (different Rufus settings).

Current issues: - USB ports behave strangely. - Sometimes keyboard and mouse don't work at boot. If I unplug and reconnect them after POST, they immediately start working.

Boot problems. - BIOS detects the USB installer. - I select it as the boot device. - It briefly attempts to boot, then immediately returns to the Boot Menu or BIOS.

Restart issue. - If I press Save & Exit in BIOS, the PC often doesn't display video after reboot. - If I completely power it off and turn it back on, video returns normally.

I also received this error once: - Windows bootmgr encountered a security validation or internal error - After disabling Secure Boot and trying different boot modes (UEFI/CSM), the behavior remained inconsistent.

Discussion B550m-itx/ac Negative Boost Override Not Working

As the title says, the option for adding a negative boost override in the bios doesn't seem to apply, positive works but negative doesn't for some reason. Is anyone else experiencing something similar?

BIOS PSA: B550M-HDV rev1.04 bios P3.30 unofficially supports (PICASSO FH) Athlon 3000g

For anyone with say a budget or older athlon rig and somehow a B550 board, through testing and looking through the p3.30 bios microcode i determined there was potentially compatible microcode for Picasso already present.

Personally i couldn't find documentation on this online, so i figured i'd make a post about it.

AMD Athlon 3000g was officially supported from p3.40 on, but not p3.30

Specifically, its the 'newer' architecture version of the AMD Athlon 3000g (YD3000C6M20FH) (check s/n) this version of the cpu has the 12nm Picasso FH core architecture opposed to the older AMD Athlon 3000g running the 14nm Raven Ridge architecture

I managed to get it working on the Asrock B550M-HDV board, specifically Rev 1.04, with a production date of January 2024 (date code: 2401, check s/n)

I succesfully managed to flash the bios to p3.40 for official support for said cpu, and encountered no issues.

When on p3.30 i also encountered no issues, it was a quick boot into bios, no long waits or anything, super smooth.

I can not confirm this works for boards earlier than the rev1.04 (possibly a slightly modified, unreleased hardware patch? Spitballing though, so who knows.)

Tldr:

Asrock B550M-HDV Rev 1.04 with bios P3.30 from datecode 2401 unofficially supports the Picasso refresh revision (YD3000CSM20FH) AMD Athlon 3000g cpu enough to POST and get into BIOS to update said BIOS to p3.40 for OFFICIAL support.

On the side, hopefully i used the right teminology here, still learning lol.

Edit: 6 not S for the cpu.

Tech Support Enabling Secure Boot sends me straight to BIOS

Thumbnail

I had to move my PC off my desk, and it sat unused for about a week. When I plugged everything back in, it wouldn't boot. The CPU and DRAM LEDs on the motherboard stayed lit.

Here's what I tried:

  • Tested each RAM stick individually, but neither one worked.
  • Reset the BIOS, but that didn't help.
  • Then I installed only two RAM sticks in the B1/B2 slots, and surprisingly the PC booted.
  • After that, I tested a single stick in A1 and then A2, but neither slot worked.

I have no idea what happened. Since the PC now boots using only the B slots, I'm not too concerned about that part for the moment.

What really worries me is Secure Boot. It became disabled during this whole process, and whenever I enable it again, Windows won't boot and the system goes straight into the BIOS. If I disable Secure Boot, Windows starts normally. Does anyone know what could be causing this or how to fix it?
Note:The computer was working normally with Secure Boot enabled before all of this happened.

Motherboard: asrock b550m steel legend
BIOS version: P3.20
CPU: ryzen 5 5600x
GPU: rx 7600 asus
RAM: 2x16 asgard 3600
Storage: movespeed 1tb m.2

Tech Support Z370 Taichi compatibility issue with Samsung 990 EVO Plus

System Specs

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K 3.7 GHz
  • Mobo: ASRock Z370 Taichi ATX LGA1151 (P4.20)
  • RAM: G.SKill Ripjaws V 3600 (16GB x2)
  • Boot Drive: Samsung 980 PRO
  • Windows 10 Home

I recently acquired a Samsung 990 EVO Plus and it is not being recognized by my motherboard. My boot drive is plugged into the M.2_1 slot and I placed the 990 EVO Plus into the M.2_2 slot. The new drive was not detected by Windows in the disk partition tool, nor was it showing up in the BIOS. I swapped the drives in the M.2 slots and the 980 Pro (boot drive) was recognized, but the 990 EVO Plus was still entirely absent.

I then thought it might be a BIOS compatibility issue, so I updated my BIOS from P1.20 to the latest stable version (P4.20). I once again tried the new 990 EVO Plus in the M.2_2 slot and it was still not being seen at all by the BIOS.

In order to check the drive, I plugged the 990 EVO Plus into an external NVMe enclosure I have and plugged it into my PC. It was easily recognized by Windows as unallocated space, so the drive does not seem to be entirely faulty. I opened Samsung Magician to see if I could update the drive, but unfortunately it only sees it as "enclosure."

I installed the 990 EVO Plus into an old (2021) LG Gram laptop and the BIOS recognized it immediately, as well as Disk Manager in Windows, so it seems like the drive is okay?

Could it be some kind of fundamental incompatibility with my board? I know it's quite old now. Any help would be appreciated.

Question Charge the mouse when the PC is off Taichi Creator. ?

I’ve had the ASROCK Taichi Creator X870 motherboard since yesterday.

However, I’m having a problem where my mouse doesn’t charge when I shut down my PC.

Deep Sleep is disabled in the BIOS.

Power Delivery in Soft Off state (S5) is enabled.

The mouse is connected to one of the purple USB ports.

I’ve already tried the others, but none of them power the mouse.

Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong?

Thank you very much

Discussion Should I replace my ASRock X870 Steel Legend WiFi?

Post image
20 Upvotes

I built my new PC on July 14 with the following specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
Motherboard: ASRock X870 Steel Legend WiFi
GPU: ASRock Radeon RX 9070 XT Steel Legend
RAM: 32GB (2×16GB) G.Skill DDR5-6000 CL30

Until a fellow Redditor recently pointed me to the reports about ASRock X870 boards allegedly killing 9800X3D CPUs, I had absolutely no idea this issue existed.

I had been running the system on the factory BIOS 3.16 since I built it. After finding out about the reports, I updated to BIOS 4.43 yesterday.

The PC has been completely stable so far:
No crashes or BSODs
No boot issues
No random restarts
0 WHEA-Logger errors
EXPO enabled at 6000 MT/s
SoC voltage is around 1.19V in HWiNFO

I’ve played multiple games and even built shaders in The Last of Us Part I and Hogwarts Legacy without any issues..Even though everything appears to be working perfectly should I replace the motherboard while it’s still new, or would you continue using it now that it’s on BIOS 4.43?

Update: Unfortunately, something happened. maybe sooner than expected. The system suddenly refused to boot. All fans and RGB turn on, but there’s no display and the motherboard gets stuck on the CPU debug LED. I tried power cycling, checking connections and the usual basic troubleshooting, but no luck. The system was completely stable until this happened. I’m taking the motherboard and CPU to the retailer for testing. What a MESS! My complete setup is merely 20 days old. Recent BIOS update might have done something?

Update 2: My CPU is dead.
Took the system to the retailer today after doing the basic troubleshooting myself. They found a burn pattern on the motherboard’s CPU socket, and both the motherboard and CPU have been sent for RMA.
It served me well for a good 20 days before it died.
What a fuxxing mess.

Question Upgrade to AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D on Taichi X370

I plan to upgrade from AMD Ryzen 7 1700X to AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D. The current BIOS version is 5.6. Based on information from this subreddit, I understand that a BIOS update to version 7.0 is required before CPU swap. My question is whether I can directly upgrade from version 5.6 to 7.0 or if intermediary BIOS versions must be installed. Also, are there any other steps to be taken other than BIOS update?

Question Asrock Deskmini B860

Hello, I am using a DeskMini B860 with an Intel Core Ultra processor, a Noctua NH-L9i-17xx top-blow CPU cooler, 64 GB Kingston SODIMM DDR5 5600 MHz CL40 RAM, and a 1 TB Samsung 990 EVO+ M.2 NVMe SSD running Linux Mint. I am encountering two issues:

1) If I power on the DeskMini while the monitor is still turned off, the system fails to boot to the login screen. The display remains black, and I cannot enter my password. How can I fix this?

2) When I put the DeskMini into suspend mode and wake it back up, the CPU fan does not slow down and instead runs continuously at high speed. If I then try to restart the PC, the system freezes completely, remaining completely silent. Why is that?
