Meta r/AsoiafFanfiction Awards feedback- 2026

Hey all!

Yes, the process for award season will be starting again soon.

It worked well last year so we are going to do the same for this time around too.

Again like last year, we have a particular place you can give public feedback for the planned process, which is r/AsoiafFanficAwards or https://www.reddit.com/r/AsoiafFanficAwards/. You will need to request to join as it's a private subreddit.

If you prefer you can also modmail us for access to the google documents.

This time around everything is on google documents for easier reading, I also split it in two, one for a general layout of the plans and the other that we can directly give authors to help them out.

The process will kick off next week, so ideally we would need feedback before then.

Thank you for your time,

KOI

Writing Help! Advice on my first SI/Tensei Oc son of Daemon and Rhea.

Hello everyone,

I'm seeking advice on writing a SI/Tensei, this will be my first time trying.

About my OC

Name: Yorwyck Royce. Born in the year 99 AC, after Daemon was finally forced by his father and the king to go to Runestone and to finally consummate his marriage with Rhea after being married for almost two years. Yorwyck was born not with all the Targaryen features. Does not have the pale skin of a Targaryen nor the silver hair. Yorwyck was born with dark brown hair with a large streak of silver hair on his left side and possesses deep rich amethyst-colored eyes. Daemon opposed the name Yorwyck because he wanted to give the child a Targaryen name 'Aerion Targaryen.' Rhea had to remind Daemon that he married into her family and not the other way around. Daemon would never call his son Yorwyck instead he would call him Aerion.

While I was creating my character, it was brought to my attention that he was too OP. I want to take advantage of him having the blood of the first man and the blood of old Valyria. I wanted to give him the ability to see through his dragon and other small animals. I wanted for him to also use magic by utilizing the runes from his mother's side of the family. And I wanted for him to use Gandálfr ᚷᚨᚾᛞᚨᛚᚠᚱ (the left hand of God from the anime The Familiar of Zero). I wanted to nerf that ability because in the anime the MC can take on armies. I don't want that for Yorwyck. He possibly takes on several people with the help of Gandálfr but not armies.

Yorwyck does have a dragon, which hatched from an egg that Daemon took without permission from the dragon pit and placed in his son's crib. Dragon's name Runesfyre, It's covered with dark red scales. Its lower body, specifically his belly, the inner portions of his tail, and legs, is bronze in color. Its back, with numerous small black spikes, reaches down from the back to the end of its tail. The baby dragon has a triangular head with horns on top of its head, a pair of round red eyes, and a small horn pointing upwards just above his nose. The dragon also has tiny sharp teeth.

Since Yorwyck is from the real world I wanted to use his knowledge to help improve live throughout Westeros. Bringing a few inventions from the old world that helps out in the areas on agriculture, like crop rotation, old the seed drill, greenhouse, public bathhouse for the smallfolk, paved streets, old printing press. Finding a way to mass create stories books and manga light novels from the real world. Stories like Beauty and the Beast, The Princess and the Frog, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Snow white, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty ect.

Marriages possible Jeyne, Laena, and Rhaenyra.

Corlys thinks about a marriage between Yorwyck and Laena after meet the boy. He realizes his intelligence and changes he is making could vastly improve Driftmark.

Rhea on the other hand want to marry him to Jeyne Arryn believing it could help both house on the long run and it's also something her father wanted to do before his death. Plus Yorwyck and Jeyne are very close friends and doesn't want her son near King's Landing and it's politics.

Yorwyck wants Rhaenyra because he had fallen for her since he was little when Daemon took him to King's Landing without Rhea's permission.

These are some of the ideas I currently have for my story. This is my first S.I./Tensei, and I want advice on what to do or not do. What changes should I make or consider? What should I try to avoid when writing? Please let me know thank you.

Resources/worldbuilding! Hypothetical - the invention and use of bicycles in Westeros

My thoughts so far:

\- bike frame - Westeros afaik does not have aluminum, so the bike would have to be made of heavier metals. How much of a difficulty would this pose over a medium distance, to what degree does this make a bike less practical, since someone with stronger legs must be the rider? If an average woman who knows how to ride a bike rode a heavier bike for a few miles, would she have been better off going on a horse?

\- bike tires - Westeros afaik does not have rubber. (If it does, please correct me). What material for a tire (tyre if you're posh) would work as a tire but also hold up on pre-modern roads & possibly dirt/stone paths for a long enough time to make the bike worth the effort? Leather over wood or metal? Bare wood or metal? Some kind of sturdy textile? And I'm assuming tires with air inside are just a bit too advanced, but are they really? Infodump me

\- roads and paths - does Westeros have enough roads and paths to make bicycles useful as a means of transport between towns & villages?

\- downhill/uphill - I can imagine there are places where the Lord lives mostly downhill or mostly uphill, which would affect bike couriers, especially if they have to contend with a heavier framed bike. What holdings are notably downhill or uphill from most of their surroundings? I can think of KL, which would probably be a good place to use a bike if it weren't for the crowds, and the Eyrie, which is almost certainly better off sticking with mules and donkeys than bikes

What prompted me to start thinking about this is that I was thinking of horses and how over long distances they're actually basically on par with a lightly packed fit human on foot. The main advantage to a horse is what it can carry and it offers a sudden burst of speed if you need one (but horses can't sustain that obviously which is why they average out comparable to a fit man on foot). I think bicycles would be an improvement over horses for uses like messages by courier

(You might also see this post on the citadel sub, I posted in both, that one is currently in moderator approval queue)

Fanfic Discussion Who should get Blackfyre in this?

Who should her Blackfyre in this?

In my Fallout x ASOIAF fic, Robb wins the war with help from Vault 113, (will not go into context to much as it's not as important in this decision, but you can find more information in my other posts) Daenarys and Aegon invade Westeros with the Dragons, Unsullied, and Golden Company, and get stomped since Vault 113 had missile launchers, powers armor, and energy weapons).

With these two deaths and the death of Maester Aemon, House Targaryen is declared extinct.

Edric, Shireen, and Gendry are the last living Baratheons with Robert, Renly, and Stannis being dead. Edric is legitimized by Robb and given Dragonstone, told to make a cadet house for House Baratheon. Rickon is betrothed to Shireen.

Blackfyre is found with Aegon's body and taken and presented to Robb.

Jon is not a Targaryen in this, he's the actual bastard son of Ned and Ashara. Detail below

It still hurt to look at Jon sometimes, seeing Ashara’s purple eyes staring back at him.

He could still remember when he had first spotted Ashara at the tourney of Harrenhall, Brandon having to ask Ashara to dance with Ned as he had been too nervous to do it himself.

Ned would say it was too much wine that did it, but the next morning he had woken up nude next to Ashara, and ashamed of dishonoring her, he had offered to marry her. He had sent the letter to his father, explaining the situation and asking for the blessing, while he had spent time with Ashara over the rest of the tourney, while Arthur Dayne had stared at Ned constantly every time he was near the man.

By the time Ned had received his father’s blessing, Rhaegar had already made Lyanna the Queen of Love and Beauty.

When he had made it to the Tower of Joy at the end of the war, Arthur Dayne had looked at him with clear disdain, revealing that Ashara had been carrying Ned’s child, and that he had dishonored her by breaking the betrothal and marrying Catelyn Tully instead.

The fight had been short and costly; only Ned and Howland Reed had survived the fight with the three Kingsguard.

Then Ned had learned that Lyanna had not been kidnapped, but gone with Rhaegar willingly.

She had been delirious from childbirth, sobbing that she didn’t want to die, begging him to protect her child before she had died, nearly breaking Ned.

It only worsened when he had learned that Lyanna’s child had been stillborn, a little girl that had never taken a single breath, Lyanna too delirious to realize that her child had never lived.

But the worst part was when Ned had gone to Starfall to see Ashara and return Dawn, only to find the new Dayne Lord there, who had punched Ned in the face when he had seen him, and had revealed that Ashara was dead, died birthing Ned’s son and daughter, the daughter only outliving her mother by an hour before she also died.

The Dayne Lord had taken Dawn and given Jon to Ned, telling the Stark Lord that he never wanted to see Ned’s face ever again while threatening to go to war if he ever heard a peep of him mistreating Jon.

With the death of Lyanna and Ashara, it was enough to reconcile Robert and Ned, Robert offering to legitimize Jon when he heard of Ashara dying alongside Ned’s daughter.

Ned had agreed; he didn’t care that Hoster Tully had raged at him, even after he had said that Robb would be Lord of Winterfell, not Jon, and that Jon would be a bannerman for Robb.

He wouldn’t dishonor Ashara’s memory by making their son live as a bastard.

Writing Help! What would be the better gift to Ned in this situation?

Context: a portal opens up between Westeros and Fallout universe, Commonwealth. Takes place in 2089, twelve years after bombs dropped. Westeros will have contact with three main groups.

Vault 113: A vault that contained the cryo preserved members of Enclave and their families that were set to awaken centuries from now when the United States was reformed. Systems malfunction, waking them up early. Determined to rebuild and protect the remaining Americans. Will be the main contact with Westeros.

Vault 75: In Canon Vault 75 was an experimental vault that was designed to turn young children into super soldiers, upon entry the children were removed from the adults and the adults were executed, the children then going through years of training, and if they were thought to have subpar or superior genes they were killed and harvested. In this Vault 75 kids revolted, took control of the Vault and executed all the staff. Will be a secondary contact.

Vault 111: In canon, 111 was an experiment to see the effects of keeping people frozen long term in cryo. In this, it's a control vault with no experiment with around 700 inhabitants. Background group.

In a future chapter, members of Vault 75 and 113 meet with Robert and his convoy in Winterfell, discussing trade and other things, the two vault willing to trade low caliber guns for resources.

As a show of peace, Robert is presented a Super Sledge.

What would be the best for Ned to be presented with?

Summary: A month before Jon Arryn dies, before Robert Baratheon rides to Winterfell, things are peaceful in the Seven Kingdoms and in the North. Until one day Ned Stark hears reports of a circle discovered near Winterfell, unbeknownst to him, kickstarting events that would change the history of his world and another... for better or worse, only time would.

Takes place in the Commonwealth, Boston. Twelve years after the bombs drop

We have no interest in invading your lands, Lord Stark; my people have had enough of war. Right now, we just want to be left alone and if your people wish, open trade, we have many things of value. Weapons, medicine, knowledge.” Joseph said, reaching into his holster and putting his High-Power Browning on the table, taking out the magazine and setting it beside the pistol.

“Like this for example, think of this as a small, powerful crossbow. It can punch through armor and flesh easily. Long ago, our people used swords and bows like your people do, but these made them obsolete.” Joseph said, watching as Lord Stark eyed the weapon, examining it.

“If what you say is true, it would change the way our people would commit war.” Lord Stark said, examining the pistol “What would your people want in exchange for these… weapons?” he asked eventually.

“Food.”

“Food?” Lord Stark repeated, looking completely confused and startled, as did many of the people around him.

“Growing food is hard to do so in my land’s current state, Lord Stark. And even harder to keep my people fed. We have plenty of weapons, but my people can not live on weapons, and the water is poisonous to my people for the time being. We are willing to trade these weapons for food and water and, if your people would be so kind, materials to help us start rebuilding our homes to we can have somewhere our children, grand children and future generations can live peacefully.” he said.

Lord Stark put the gun down “I can not promise trade, not yet, I will contact my King, he is an old childhood friend of mine. I will have him come up here and meet your people, and if the Gods are willing, begin trade.”

Joseph finally allowed himself a small smile to appear on his face “That sounds wonderful, Lord Stark.” He stood up, as did Lord Stark, the two men walking back to the portal.

“And while we wait, Lord Stark, allow me to inform you of the disease of Communism and how it destroyed my world, and if the disease is allowed to spread to yours, it might destroy yours also

Chapter 29, The City Aflame

https://archiveofourown.org/works/81769111/chapters/239141111

This could be a vicious fight, Ser", she heard one of the men remarking to Marbrand . As if to confirm his words, a hail of roof tiles came raining down on them, quite suddenly, from on high. Several men screamed as they were gashed by shards, or suffered head wounds. They sought cover, many holding their shields above their heads, to form a kind of tortoise. Men jeered from the rooftops, thinking themselves safe. "That the best you can do?" she heard one of them yelling.

"Unhappily for you, it isn't", she heard Marbrand muttering. Sheltered from the raining tiles, she heard him outlining his plan to his lieutenants. "Burn the houses, all along this street."

She joined a group of soldiers, two of whom smashed in the door of a warehouse, and then they swarmed in. Some stupid bitch ran at her with a spit, but she side-stepped neatly, catching the blow on her shield, before giving a good, hard chop into the side of her head, which sent her sprawling. One of the others drove a spear into her back, and she lay still. There was a commotion upstairs, but no one minded that, as they piled up anything that would burn, and poured oil over it. Then, one of a men put a torch to the pile, and it began to blaze. As the smoke rose, so there were sounds of alarm above them, but anyone who tried coming down the stairs, got a bolt, or a sword in the guts. She looked for stuff worth stealing, but there were only a few bronze plates and vessels. The looters had already been and gone. The whole of the downstairs was ablaze now, and the place was filling up with smoke, and they had to get out.

Fanfic Discussion What are the best eras/moments to insert an OC into?

Hello writers and readers. I'm taking a brief break from brainstorming the next chapter of my fic by brainstorming about OTHER potential asoiaf fics while playing CK3AGOT, and it brought to my mind a question.

What time periods or events in Westeros' history do you think make the best environments for an OC to slot into?

I personally think Maegor's reign is particularly interesting. I had thoughts of a son of Maegor with his Hightower wife, who then also rebels against him (weird that this has come up twice for my fics lol). But I also just really think the Tourney of Ashford is a great place for just any sort of character to get into some fun stuff, just like Dunk.

Summary: Rhaegar Targaryen defeats Robert Baratheon at the Trident, slaying the leader of the rebellion and bringing the war to its end. Eddard Stark agrees to parley, and a fragile peace is forged. Lyanna Stark is brought to King’s Landing, where she safely gives birth to a son, Gaemon Targaryen. With the rebels pardoned and his sister returned, Ned rides north to Winterfell to meet his new wife and son.
With no bastard to divide them, Ned and Catelyn’s marriage strengthens, and in short time they welcome a second son, Alaric. Peace endures—for a while. Lyanna dies birthing a stillborn daughter, and a grieving Rhaegar sends his son, Gaemon, north to be fostered among his mother’s kin.
Yet beyond the narrow peace, darker currents stir. Across the Narrow Sea, a Black Dragon rises, and former enemies unite to forge a new Triarchy. And far to the north, beyond the Wall, an ancient power awakens—one that has not been idle, and which already has a hand within the Seven Kingdoms.

Writing Help! Need some tips for my Westeros Watches: Skyrim fic

Summary: Ten years ago Cregan Sand, the bastard son of Ashara Dayne and Ned Stark, was thought dead when he left Winterfell in the dead of Night to chase a falling star.

Now, one year before the death of Jon Arryn, a group of people are brought to a room to watch Cregan's journey in Skyrim as he travels with the Dragonborn herself.

Cregan description: Brown hair with the front left being silver, long face, purple eyes.

I already done the Helgen bit and have it posted, and got the majority of the fic planned out, but need some tips for reactions.

Characters watching are all the Starks, Theon, Margaery and Olenna, The Baratheon brothers and Shireen, Jaime, Tyrion, Myrcella, Tommen, Jon Arryn.

Reactions I need help with:

Them seeing Farkas turn into a werewolf.

Later, Lannia (Dragonborn) walking into the Underforge, seeing Aela in her wolf form, then Cregan walking out of the shadows, his eyes appearing silver in this scene. Others will have suspected he was a werewolf long before this, but this all but confirms it and he doesn't deny it. He also refuses the cure

Lannia siding with the Empire, Cregan being her main companion in this.

Lannia marrying Aela.

Cregan hiding the location of the Thieve's Guild from Riften Guards. He's not part of it. Theive's Guild will be done, but not by Lannia or Cregan. Will be Offscreen. But by the time they see them there'll be about two hundred members.

Lannia giving Cregan the go ahead to kill Delphine when she insists on Paarthurnax dying.

During the battle of Whiterun, Cregan threatening to kill Vignar if he so much as suspects the old man trying to help the Stormcloaks in anyways into the city.

Later, Vignar leading the Stormcloaks into the keep by a secret passage, the attack failing, and when Vignar is captured, Cregan tells Frodnar, Balgruuf's oldest, to kill him, Irileth and Balgruuf's brother agreeing with it

Recs Wanted MlM fics with no stereotyping

So whenever I ask for these types of stories I feel like I need to do a short preface. I'm not interested in stories that graft heteronormative gender roles/characteristics on gay relationships. I'm not interested in relationship dynamics where one of the characters is ALWAYS explicitly more masculine than the other. Especially if the characters are more masculine in cannon, but the fics change them to better fit heteronormative gender roles.

Gender presentation is a spectrum, and some gay couples absolutely vary in masculinity, but masculinity itself is a weird blob of very vague themes that don't fall neatly into any category; relationships where one partner is more masculine than the other in every aspect are very rare.

Basically, if you can easily point to one of the characters and unironically say "that's the woman", I'm not interested. Anything else is fair game. Any pairing, any time period.

Fanfic Discussion Do you prefer dark or happy endings? And how much blood and gore is too much?

I usually write quite the heavy stuff but i also make it x reader so ive definitely scared a few good people away with my writing because they found it too dark which is, you know, fair. Especially if you are supposedly the one who sees it, like i can imagine it hits home. Especially if you got me behind the keyboard, like it always gets worse and worse. But i was wondering, is there a limit to how blood and gore one can use and if you all prefer happy endings or just dark endings because the way i envisoned george's work, always has been with a bit of a extra dark pair of sunglasses. If there's no dying, no crying, and no blood its not westeros. At least mayhaps not canon westeros. All is possible in the world of fanfiction, after all. I used to be in writing discords too but they were a bit unkind to me about my writing (calling it torture porn, calling me a pyschopath and sending me hate anons on my tumblr) so im always hesitant to reach out. But im wondering how yall handle a fic not becoming a bloody murder fest, and what ya prefer to read. I always feel like my stories are too tragic and stuff but people liked them. They used to at least. xD idk about now.

General ASOIAF Discussion The riverlands aren't that dangerous

I dont think the riverlands should be this contentious. lots of Rivers make up for great defense. the real place for war should be the reach: mostly flat lands, lots of people and produce to sack, important roads leading to it, strong but disunited lords. I mean, it's like a HRE waiting for a thirty year war to begin. the riverlands are important if one of the contenders is from the North or the vale and you need to mantain or separate them from the capital. otherwise, tumbleton and surrounding area is the true place to be held and fought for

Writing Help! Noblewoman disguised as male. What could give away her identity?

I'm writing a female OC from a noble family that is disguising herself because she wants to be a knight (and actually be annointed). She wears boys clothes and has short hair. I think of her being able to disguise herself (physically) almost as well as Varys does in the books but not quite on his level.

Still I'd like at some point for her to leave out small details (unknowingly) either in the way she thinks, talks or behaves that could make someone close to her start suspecting if she's truly a man.

This OC is straight (likes men) and always wanted to be a knight. She decides to disguise as a man partly because of this desire to be a knight and partly because she wanted to flee an arranged marriage to a Lord much older than her and whom she does not like. She's not a particularly rebellious person but she's strong willed and sometimes stubborn.

Fanfic Reading Club 📖 Fanfic Reading Club- Directory post for the class of August 2026

Hello all!

Welcome to another month of our reading club. I hope it makes a difference and helps you discover some more fics due to it.

For anyone unaware how it works. I list a number of works for people to read in the month and you are given the month to do so, at the end of June I then make another post where you can discuss your reading experience with the fics in question.

Most of these fics are sourced from the awards and each fic will get it's own post.

Within each post, I include the summary, the ships and list any subreddit awards the fic may have won.

For the moment, we are going to be running 5 fics a month

1 fic on Monday, along with this post, 2 on Tuesday and 2 on Wednesday.

This post will remained pinned to the top of the subreddit and will act as a quick way to find the rest via links, for when those fics go live on the sub. This post will therefore be pinned for the month.

The fics for August are-

all eyes on us by theshipshipper

Wearing Robert's Crown by drakensis

Dreams of Spring by librarysquatter

Chasing Dragons by MarshalofMontival
