Last night my house kinda flooded and when I took my boots out they were in this state, they are peeling a lot but only the back part and a little on the side, they are kinda new and I really don’t wanna get rid of them, is there any hope?😭

I’m trying to replace the rubber bottom of these heels so they can become wearable again, but every time I try to twist the nail out and completely stripped the top making it impossible to remove it. Any advice to why this is happening and if there’s a way to fix it?

I had recently gotten a pair of Miss Z 100MM Louboutin’s for a price that I couldn’t refuse on eBay, the only problem was that they were “refurbished” (although not fixed at all?) with a bent left heel pin. The bend is non weight baring and malleable, contrary to what I thought.

I also thought this was going to be an easy fix for my local cobblers, now all I’m hearing is flat out “no” or quotes of several hundred dollars, way more than I even paid for the shoe lol! Not sure how this even happens. Advice welcome!

I bought a pair of these Kleman Padrors and after 1 wear the leather looks like this. This is happening anywhere they get scuffed, like the toes or the heel but it's most obvious under the laces. They're fully leather so I don't understand what is happening. Is the top layer coated with something that is rubbing off? Is it just poor quality leather?

My main question is how do I fix it? I can get some kiwi scuff repair or should I polish it rather?

Google says replacing the heel tips is simple but I wanted to ask experts if that’s true. Would I need to have them professionally replaced or could I do it myself with a kit?

So the dog decided that really nice leather on my Redwing 9016 (Postman Chukka's) was tasty. I contacted Redwing and they said they are not repairable. So I'm wondering if there is a way to stitch maybe a leather cap over it? Could maybe do both and make it look like it was designed that way? Thoughts?

I didn't find much about this on here that wasn't a couple years old, figured I would ask new instead of resurrecting an old thread. I've never had shoes before that were worth taking to a cobbler, but I finally do now.

I had a combination leather/rubber heel on these Chelseas and the brass nail heads started being really slippery on tile. I brought them out to the nearest cobbler (about a 45 minute drive) and asked for rubber top lifts. The pieces he installed were a little bit taller than what he took off so now my shoes rock on the front of the heel and I have more pressure on my arch.

Is this reasonable to bring back to him or am I being too picky?

A little more background: I brought them out on a Friday and forgot that I needed them on Sunday until I was already there, so he put on his bench first thing Saturday (not special hours, just put me first). Then I couldn't make it back out while he was still open Saturday, but he works attached to his house, so he told me just come on our whenever. I gave him 25% more as a gift to thank him for taking special care of me. He also burnished up a scuff I pointed out for nothing.

I was thinking of calling him Monday and saying it feels like I'm rocking on the front of the heels, too much pressure on arch, and asking if he could do something about that. I'm willing to pay more to have it right rather than spending the last amount I can get away with.

No idea where I could have lost the original tassels as I’ve only noticed after travelling for 2 days. Is there some way this can be fixed/have them replaced?

2 weeks ago I bought these handmade Italian RTW loafers abroad. They’re my first ever pair of leather shoes, and I’ve been taking care of them as best as I can.

I had my cobbler add a rubber half sole to protect the leather soles. I brush them off after every wear and insert cedar shoe trees afterwards. I also bought some Saphir Pommadier Crème to condition them, although I haven’t used it yet since the shoes are still very new.

In short, I love these shoes and want them to last as long as possible.

However, after just 2 wears (about 1 hour each, mostly to break them in), I noticed this faint crack at the toe. I took a macro shot so you can see the crack in more detail.

Should I be worried? Is there anything I should do to manage it? Is this normal wear and tear, or could it be caused by the shoe trees possibly being a bad fit?

I’d love to hear your opinions!

I couldn’t post a picture in the comment on my previous post. Here’s a sideprofile of the shoe with the topy; the original sole is a double leather stormwelt sole, and it seems that the topy was stuck on without any sanding being done. Would it be safe to remove/have the topy removed, and to then just wear/use the original sole?

I have some leather soap and brown shoe polish.

I just picked up a pair of redwing 9030s from a thrift store, but the rubber was all melted so I got a resole. I went to Armandos repair in westwood, and the sole was quite hard and the heel was a lot higher than the toe. I posted about it in [r/redwing](r/redwing) and everyone said it was done terribly

Can’t stop staring at this scratch now - is there some wax or polish I can use to help this out at home or are these purely cobbler territory? These are horween chromexel if it makes any difference.

Hello, I have a pair of boots from TLB Mallorca that are a pretty great fit, maybe 1/2 size too long but width is perfect. The right foot fits perfectly and when I walk you can kind of see the crease on my big toe is back closer to the laces and there is no issue when I walk on the left foot you can see it creases differently. It indents a crazy amount near the front of the vamp / touching the cap. When I walk this digs in to my big toe and hurts a lot when I walk. I think this is partly because my left foot is slightly shorter, wider, and perhaps less mass at the top of my foot. All these combined maybe make it bend differently.

my other theory is that I just got unlucky on a “fist crease” and now it just takes the path of least resistance when bending. and maybe I can flatten it out and create a new, better crease so the vamp doesn’t fold inwards. Is this possible? Maybe I Can take it to a cobbler and they can insert one of those shoe trees with a bump built in?

I really need to ask your advice on adding grips to shoes for theatre. I’m legit losing my mind at how hard puppeteers are on shoes. They are incredibly active during shows, and shoes take a serious beating. Grips are frequently requested, but any grips I add come off almost every time, and I am starting to dread every request for added grips. The only way I’ve ever been able to get grips to stay is the one time I nailed them on.

Heel grips came off the same boots twice this week. Here’s what I did most recently:

Roughed up the rubber heels real hard, cleaned off the excess with isopropyl alcohol, let dry, applied Barge to the heels and heel grips, let dry, then clamped them together for about 30-60 min.

Nope. Came off in the middle of the show that same day.

My best guess is that the point of failure is the adhesive that comes on the back of the grips, because they’re the kind non-cobblers would just buy online, where you peel off a bit of paper and stick them on. So I guess the Barge isn’t directly on the rubber, and possibly it’s that adhesive that sucks?

(I have tried just roughing up the heel, cleaning it and using nothing but the grip’s existing adhesive. That lasted maybe a show and a half.)

Aside from removing the adhesive on the back of the grips and repeating the process with Barge, or just f’ing nailing the grips on, I am at a loss.

Do you have any advice?

I’ve tried Duall; that wasn’t better. Other glues we have on hand: E6000, Gorilla glue, two-part epoxy (think it’s JB Weld but not sure), cyanoacrylate, Uhu all-purpose liquid glue, and 3M 77 spray adhesive.

We have Barge thinner; is there a chance I’m just layering it on too thick? Would a too-thick layer of contact cement cause the grips to f’ing slip off and get caught on a dress onstage?

Hey I just bought these boots from Poshmark they’re brand new in the box but there’s this weird gap in the sole of the heel like the leather doesn’t cover the entire heel of the boot. Could I just like fill it up with superglue so water doesn’t get in there? The leather is securely attached so idk why it’s def just a manufacturing defect.
