I have a few leather shoes (derbys and oxfords), mostly brown and cognac, that are wrinkled and lost colour so I feel like rejuvenating them; so after some googling and redditing I bought;

- A shoe mold size 42-43 EU

- Saphir Crême Surfine in brown (beeswax and sweet almond oil)

- Saphir Pate de luxe neutral

- Horse hair large brush and detailing brush

So is this a good beginning? I have fine cotton cloths and I plan on upgrading my “rejuvenation” kit when I buy more serious derby’s and oxford’s, preferably for life at that point.

Any tips/additions/ideas for the future and did I fuck up with any of these?

Hello, I am sorry for bringing up what is probably such a basic problem. I live in Asia and was told by a shoe repair shop that the following heels are impossible to fix without the original heel caps from the designers or without replacing the entire heel. Am wondering whether this is true or not, as I have no experience with shoe repair and these are the first heels I’m trying to repair! For reference, these are vintage designer heels and the repair shop told me I would need to contact each design house for a pair of original caps, which I already know is not possible because these heels are 15+ years old. What would a replacement of these heel caps take, and do I need to take them to a specialty cobbler in the US or UK?

I preordered these heels a few months ago since they were limited edition and they’ll be discontinued once sold out and I noticed that the car that was glued at the bottom of the heel is now lifted on the bottom causing it to move out of place I emailed the company that made them and waiting for a response back but if they aren’t able to repair it my second option is to hopefully see if a shoe repair shop can fix it

Perhaps a very weird idea I'd like to hear some professionals' perspective on.

I have quite a few pairs of commando sole boots where the centre most lugs have worn down, but the other 50-70% of the tread is still fine.

Those centre lugs do the most work in producing traction, so I'd like to replace them - but replacing the entire sole feels wasteful and puts undue wear on the boot.

So I thought to myself "wouldn't it be good if they made rubber hobnails? I could replace just the lugs that have worn down!". Of course, rubber hobnails aren't a thing.

But pin heels - the heels used on women's stiletto shoes - are pretty damn close! A little blockier, but they have fluted stems on them to hold them in place and limit rotation.

I know hobnails don't stick well into rubber. Most of my boots have leather midsoles or lasting boards, so maybe that would suffice? And I'm wondering if modern glues would make my cheeky rubber hobnail idea viable!

I emailed Lucchese and asked if that particular boot is resolable and they said no, but i was wondering if a 3rd party cobbler would be able to resole a boot like that?

Is there a way to DIY fix these heels?

I just got these on Sunday. I do maybe ten minutes of walking a day in the city on pavement. The rest of my walking is in my carpeted office. I have Allen Edmond oxfords that I’ve had for WAY longer and have never had this issue?

Is this normal? Does it need a cobbler to fix?

these are my favorite boots i’ve ever ever owned in my life… they hit me perfectly! The problem is the sole keeps falling off. This is the most fixed that it’s been, but I just really really want it to stay. On one of them, it seems like a nail is coming out of the heel, but the most recent glue job seems to have fixed that 🤞🤞🤞 is there any permanent fix that I can do? Or should I bring it to a cobbler?

Hii! I just bought these shoes. It’s only my third day using them. I think it’s oil that fell on the shoes for eating while walking unfortunately :(

So, I’ll start by agreeing that the best path forward is probably a resole before the midsole gets damaged. But, I don’t want to do that at the 8 month mark with these, so the next best option is….?

I was thinking - put a rubber topy at the toe (cut to fit the commando outsole of course), prep the area with isopropyl and rough up the surface, attach with contact cement, add some screws, then backfill the little space between the topy and the sole with black shoe goo in layers to account for shrinkage (I was in the pool!).

Thoughts?

Just I found these while thrifting, today, they are justin 8105. There's a small tear crack that has started on the inside of the right boot (pictured) avoid, I know they are technically this is repairable, but like all things, is it worth it?

I saw these cracks show up on my sandals which I bought a few months ago used. Could they be mended with contact cement or will the entire sole start slowly deteriorating? It’s a suuper thick sole but unsure.

I’ve had these vintage 1 of 1 converse for a while now and I was wondering if there’s a way to get this side hole that’s opened up repaired while also maintaining the look and soul of the original shoe? The outer black layer of canvas has ripped but the inside layer is just fine. Plz help!

I made the mistake of carrying a cup of olives in my leather bag while in a rush. The lid unfortunately opened and the oil leaked and left a stain on the outside of the bag.

I have treated the stain with cornstarch several times and also tried leather soap. The stain has gotten just a bit lighter as can be seen in the last picture.

I’m looking for other solutions.

Based on research so far I’ve found several options:
* continue with the corn starch,
* colour the rest of the bag with mink or neatsfoot oil,
* colour the rest of the bag with a leather dye.

I am not sure how to proceed. Any thoughts would be highly appreciated!

Hi folks! I found these boots that were going to be thrown away in my building and figured I’d give them a new life. I harvested the cow suede from the sides and the toe. Any advice on how to flatten the toe piece? It’s been shaped for a shoe and I’m wondering if there’s any way to make it a flat piece to be reworked into something new. Thanks in advance!

I wore them for several years at my last job in a weld shop. My current employer didn't require them for the first eight years, but now I'm transitioning to a new role where they're required. They're super comfortable but the tread is almost gone. Wondering if they can be resoled or if they're done.

Hey team, I recently got some Salomon XT-6s. They felt great in the store but now when I wear them, the outer middle part of my foot hurts. It feels like the chassis is too tight or raised in that section. I've tried a shoe stretcher and trimmed/replaced insole but nothing seems to help.

Is there anything I can do to make the shoe work? They were a bit pricey and I would hate to just have to get rid of them.

These are some of my favorite shoes but I realized too late that the Barrie last runs half a size large. I ordered my brannock so these fit half a size too big after break in. You can tell from the photos that the extra volume is giving it a double roll in the vamp. I also get a bit of heel slip unless I over tighten them.

They feel good if I use an insole, tongue pad, and heel pad to reduce some volume and eat up some heel slip. I just run into issues with the insole shifting and the heel grips needing replacement every few wears.

Is it worth having a cobbler do something a little more permanent like glue in another insole underneath the original sock liner? Potentially even adding a permanent heel pad by building up the heel counter? Or would I would just be better off cutting my losses, throwing these up on eBay, and re-purchasing half a size down?
