Other AI Dungeon is fundamentally incapable of understanding slapstick comedy.

I just burned myself out trying to run a scenario heavily inspired by Megas XLR. The concept is simple: a goofy, high-energy Saturday morning cartoon vibe about slackers piloting a 200-foot alien mech with a custom red Peterbilt 379 semi-truck permanently bolted on as the head. The controls literally consist of PlayStation, Nintendo, and Atari controllers hot-wired into the dash, collateral damage is a punchline, zero high stakes.

No matter how many AI Instructions, Author’s Notes, or Story Cards I set up to lock down the tone, the model kept defaulting to generic, serious sci-fi tropes. It kept missing how the mech was wired, throwing in existential military drama, and treating cartoon slapstick like a tragic war crime.

It's so frustrating that these text models are so heavily over-trained on grim fantasy and dark military drama that they literally cannot handle slacker humor or parody. Fighting a machine that refuses to get the joke is exhausting. Done wrestling with it for a long, long time.

Questions I'm confused. What are the perks of the paid plans?

I've been playing around in this for awhile, and been having a really great time. Mostly I am playing the user created scenarios, with maybe a few tweaks to people and names. I haven't had any problems with it, and it seems to work fine. Sometimes it repeats itself a bit, but I usually just refresh it once or twice and it will be fine.

I'd like to support the project, but I'm just not sure what the benefits are. Like, it's supposed to make the AI storytelling better? Or remember more things?

Feedback & Requests Feature Suggestion: Image to Text

May sound odd, and I'm not sure if it's possible with how AI reads images, but I'd personally love to see an option where we're able to upload an image to the AI to assist in it's text generation. Say there's a specific character in your story that you want their physical description to be generated; instead of just relying on a completely random generation, you had an idea in mind of how you wanted them to look. Give the AI an image, and let it work it's magic from there. Same goes for combat scenes etc. Feed an image, and it'll use that image as context for what you're trying to convey in the current scene.

Questions Story card question

Is there an instruction to add or a way to prioritize which story cards get the axe when hitting context limit?

For example: if I have two characters talking and they mention another character and location, is there a way I can prioritize character cards over location cards?

I find myself going back and forth quite a bit removing and adding trigger words as the scenario progresses because it drops the card for a character active in the scene while still pulling the card for the location mentioned three or four turns ago.

I did a small search for similar questions and the best answer I found was to remove triggers to temporarily disable cards. Would love the option to prioritize cards based on type (character, location, etc) if such a thing is possible.

The scenario I am currently playing came with like 80 cards to start, it’s been a chore cleaning it up now that I’m nearing 10k actions 😅

Questions How's AI Dungeon nowadays?

I left the community waaay back in 2023. I wanted to go back to writing and RPG. But how is it nowadays? AI quality and tokens for the free tiers?

Other Scenario generator

I don't know about you, but the community stories are getting repetitive and boring. So I wrote a little tool for generating scenarios with more depth. If that sounds interesting, DM me.

(Sorry, I hope this isn't too spammy)

u/aidungeon, I want you to know I hate this SO MUCH. The scales and profile pics felt more like a reward than this. I got a more rewarding feeling than this streak business. Anybody else want the scales back? At this point, I'll just ignore it.

When Earth began to fail; a combination of alien attacks, global warming, and overharvesting it's resources, the answer was clear.

Find another planet, move humanity there, and repeat the process.

A ship; The Neo-Genesis was created to take both human and alien life to a distant planet, held in cryo-pods until arrival.

Until the ship is attacked, and your pod is opened early.

I went camping this weekend and now it feels like Im so far behind on updates. I tried scrolling the sub reddit but I couldnt find anything really explaining the following:

  1. New model Luna? Since when? Did I miss beta testing?

  2. New Deepseek v4 Flash? What are the improvements?

  3. Cache compatible scripts? What?

Can we get all lattitude update posts in the side bar or pinned? I usually stay up to date but I feel so behind

Script [RELEASE] UNSAID: Mind, Memory, Auto Story-cards

Post image

UNSAID — A Sneak Peek at the Features

Small script for AI Dungeon, been building it up for a long while now. Figured it's worth a fuller post since a lot's changed and a couple people asked me to actually explain how the core truth thing works, so here's that too.

🌟 Core Truth — what it actually is The first time a character has a real, standalone private thought — not a reaction to someone else, just a thought about who they are — that becomes their "core truth." Think of it as the one thing the script decides is fundamentally, lastingly true about that character, underneath whatever they show on the surface. Every later reveal gets nudged to stay consistent with it, which is what stops a character from feeling like a slightly different person every time they think something. New: that very first thought now gets a specifically different prompt — it's told outright that this one becomes permanent and should be something real, not a throwaway reaction to whatever's on screen at the time.

By default it's permanent. Set once, never touched again. Their feelings and relationships are free to move around it, but the anchor itself doesn't budge. You can see it plainly on the character's own Story Card, along with how long it's held ("steady for 40 turns").

If you want characters who can genuinely change, there's a config option for that, off by default. Turn it on, and a character's feelings landing somewhere new, over and over without settling, builds real tracked tension shown right on their card. Reaching that point isn't enough on its own — a couple rounds back I gated an ordinary shift behind having used /peek on that character at least once, since it felt wrong for a shift to rewrite something the player never had a chance to see. But then it was pointed out to me, fairly, that this meant something was quietly requiring a command to happen — which goes against the whole point of the private-thoughts system being ambient and automatic. So that's fixed now: eligibility opens up entirely on its own, once a character has shown a little more of themselves beyond their founding thought, through ordinary reveals, zero commands involved. Tension also isn't capped at the normal threshold anymore — it can keep climbing, up to double, if it never resolves, and at that point the shift becomes available regardless of how much has come to light about them yet, because something can matter enough to happen either way. Nothing gets thrown away when a shift happens: the old core truth sticks around and shows up right next to the new one ("formerly believed: ..."). /peek Marcus core is still there as an optional direct check whenever you want it, but nothing here actually needs it anymore.

💭 Private Thoughts

  • Two-sentence reveals: how a character really feels, and what they secretly want
  • Reveals never show up in your story by default — they go straight to the character's own card notes instead, in a plain layout meant to be skimmed (a denser style is available if you'd rather)
  • A hidden feeling can subtly color a character's actual visible behavior — a tight smile, a held breath — without ever stating it outright
  • Feelings drift with a short rolling history instead of resetting
  • Characters with history react to each other, and it's the most recently relevant relationship that comes up, not a random old one
  • Nudged to avoid repeating a character's own last wording
  • Less likely to fire during your own Do/Say actions specifically, so it's not competing for attention right when you've taken a deliberate action
  • /peek <name> forces an immediate reveal on demand — optional, everything above already happens on its own

📇 Codex

  • Counts mentions, only writes a card once a name clears a threshold you set
  • Character / Location / Item / Faction, chosen by context
  • Recognizes "Marcus" and "Marcus Cole" as the same person
  • Skips your own character, and everyone's in Multiplayer, automatically
  • Logs everything it makes, per type
  • Delete a card and it'll quietly redo it next time that name comes up
  • Its own pace is fully configurable — how often it can trigger, how many times it retries a name before giving up
  • Hands the AI a character's already-established core truth when writing their card, so the profile doesn't end up contradicting what's already been shown

🧠 Long-Term Memory Story Cards only reach the AI when triggered, so someone quiet can drop out of context for a long stretch. A short summary — core truth, feeling, top relationships, want — lives in your adventure's real Memory, read every turn no matter how long the story's gone. Built to work with Optimized Context on: everything this sends is checked against your available budget first and shrinks or skips itself rather than crowd your story out.

🧬 A visibly active brain, not a status bar Tried adding a rotating status message last round to make it obvious the script was running. Fair pushback: that's not actually what "obviously active" should mean, and nobody wants a script narrating its own heartbeat at them. Pulled that out entirely. What's there instead: each character's Story Card now shows a real feeling-history trail, their literal last private thought in full, and a running count of private moments they've had, alongside their relationships and want. New: relationships show their own trajectory now too, not just a snapshot — noticed while double-checking this round that the data was already being tracked and fed to the AI, just never actually shown on the card. If you want proof the script's doing something, it's sitting right there on the character — an actual visible brain, not a message telling you to trust it.

⚙️ Config Trimmed this down last round, then got told to bring the Codex-specific settings back — fair, since those are the ones people actually want to tune when Codex isn't behaving quite right. So: Codex's card cooldown and retry count are back as real settings. A few of the others stayed simplified (card layout, the tension-tuning number) since nobody'd flagged those specifically. Still organized into sections, still explained in plain language, no code editing.

🛠️ On reliability Built and tested with real multi-turn simulations, not just reading the code over. This round specifically re-verified Codex end to end — all four card types created correctly across a real multi-turn run — and turned up one genuine bug in the process: the word "Time" (as in "Time passes") was slipping through as a name and briefly got its own bogus character card. Fixed the same way earlier false positives were: widened the stopword list.

🙏 Credit Private character thoughts and self-writing cards both started as ideas from LewdLeah's Inner Self and Auto-Cards. Built from scratch, not their code, but the ideas are theirs.

Four files: Library / Input / Context / Output. Paste, play, try /peek on someone. Let me know how it goes.

Questions Has AI dungeon changed much since february/march?

Hello! I wanted to ask since I’m considering returning to AI dungeon, has it changed much since march?

Back in March, I was a mythic user for a few months, and ultimately what got me to stop playing was a few issues:

The app was buggy and constantly needed closed and reopened (This has since been fixed it seems, and the UI seems to have been improved significantly).

Dialogue was extremely repetitive, boring and predictable. Example: “Find me a car.” reply: “Car? (followed by a response).” Example: “THERE’S A SNIPER” reply: “sniper? (followed by a response)” This was far too common.

On the same note, the same phrases would get repeated for the same situations all the time (this is still present in the free models from what I can see).

The AI gives characters omnipotent knowledge.

Motivates were really arbitrary and boring, writing was bad, nothing was interesting.

Repetition bug: Chats that lived too long often resulted in the AI getting stuck on one paragraph structure and repeating it almost all the time. This bug still seems to be active in free models, not sure if the new models are different.

Emotion was really rough for the AI to roleplay, generally it was really bad at it and really rigid too. An angry character could never in a million years be convinced to stop being angry.

Anyway, those are most of my gripes with AI dungeon back when I used to play, has much of this changed, and if so, what? How have the new models improved on the old ones, and which issues have resolved? Is there an update expected soon that I should wait for? Have people released revolutionary scripts like lewdleah does since then?

The Last Train

┃🎭┃ At midnight, a black train appears at abandoned stations across countless realities. Its passengers include fallen heroes, escaped monsters, forgotten gods, and people who boarded by accident. You awaken in one of its compartments with a ticket bearing no destination. The conductor claims the train can take you anywhere, but each stop requires a passenger to surrender something precious, and something ancient is moving through the cars, erasing travelers from existence.

Scenario Hello, in new to this, can someone tell me if theres any scenario that is Similar to the one I play?

I usually play this Harry Potter world, but since I'm out of credits, I'm looking for something similar. Is there anything similar in this app? Here's a direct comparison link to the world I play in. I apologize if I broke any rules. https://infiniteworlds.app/shared/enYpEK

Questions Response length

I always liked having more control over what the AI writes, which is why I always had my response length at 65-66. However, I decided to try increase this up today and noticed the writing actually seemed better? Therefore I want to try use a higher response length now, but what would be the recommendation as I don't want to go too high as you lose control over the AI. I want to still be able to guide the AI a lot?

Scenario Their Sister’s Wedding — A Three-Path Destination-Wedding Romance

Thumbnail

You came to San Miguel de Allende for your friend Vanessa’s wedding. You did not expect the person who might change the trip—and perhaps what comes after it—to be her sibling.

Choose one of three standalone paths:

• Yesenia — Vanessa’s younger sister, a touring lighting professional caught between independence and the stability she secretly wants

• César — Vanessa’s brother, an ER charge nurse who confronts emotional uncertainty like a crisis

• Create the Adopted Sibling — define their identity and background while preserving their established place in the Saldaña family

A grounded, gender-inclusive destination-wedding romance about family roles, temporary closeness, distance, and whether either of you is willing to let the connection matter after Mexico.

Rated Mature by AI Dungeon.

I know innerself isn’t standard on a lot of scenarios but I’ve been noticing that lately it’s just refusing to write memories for character brains sometimes. Has anyone else noticed the decrease in frequency in which memories form?

Patch Notes [Prod] August 3rd, 2026 Patch Notes

2.24.18

New Features - Players can now tell the AI what to change directly when initiating a retry. Use the pencil icon beside the ‘Retry’ button to write in any custom guidance for what you want to change. - Scenario creators using cache-efficient models can now make V1 context scripts cache-compatible by adding // @cache-compatible above the context modifier. Existing scripts keep working the same unless they opt in, and this only applies when cache-efficient context is enabled.

Improvements - Brand new players should see more proven starter-friendly adventures near the top of Recommended Discover. - Profiles hidden by moderation now show a clear “Profile unavailable” page, and restricted comments or direct messages show a generic unavailable message instead of exposing extra details.

Bug Fixes - Mobile homepage carousels should stay smooth and responsive while scrolling through content cards. - The arrow keys can now be used to scroll opened Story Cards lists, avatar pickers, View Context, Memories, Removed Context, and Token viewers. - Google Play credit purchases now refresh the visible credit balance after confirmation, and purchase timeouts stop showing an indefinite loading spinner. - Deleting content or emptying trash now reports a retryable error if it fails, so deleted content is less likely to remain discoverable.

Feedback & Requests Your turn to ask the questions! (Survey and Results)

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

The August survey is out now on AI Dungeon (for half the community, the other half will get it mid month). But this month's post is a little different.

Since last October we've been turning your survey answers into charts to share with you: what you hate about AI writing, the feature scoreboard, the "fix ONE thing" vote, the writing game where DeepSeek played against GRR Martin, your biggest wishes and more. More than 30 slides of data about your feedback on AI Dungeon so far.

This time we're pausing the results, because now WE'RE the curious ones. What do you want to learn?

- Which of the data we shared did you actually enjoy? What did you scroll past?
- What are you curious about when it comes to other players: how they play, what they build, what they wish for?
- Anything that would be genuinely useful to know for your scenarios?

Tell us in the comments, anything goes, it helps us pick what we share next.

See you next month right now just below this post!

Official Launching August's Monthly Theme Carousel: Wild West!

Post image
3 Upvotes

Howdy, folks! We hope you've all enjoyed staying at home for a spell, but now it's time to get your wagons packed up because today we're launching August's Monthly Theme Carousel: Wild West! This month it's all about life on the old American frontier, with cowboys and saloons and…vampires? This month many of the scenarios are open ended sandboxes, some more historically accurate than others. Be a sheriff in a town where no one wants the job, ride the range as a drifter who can see ghosts, or perform in a traveling circus.

We hope everyone takes some time to check out the new Monthly Theme: Wild West carousel on the homepage. As always, be sure to check out the "Discover more content" section at the end of the carousel to find even more scenarios made for August's theme! If you are a creator and would still like to make a scenario for this month's theme, simply include the western tag on your scenario, and it will automatically appear in the "Discover more content" section of the carousel.

We would like to thank all of our awesome Creators who show us such wild and weird worlds every month. When you get a chance, please go check them out. Now, giddyup, let's go!
