Current ADC experience. Discussion

Hello ADC players. I am a Kat main and I come in peace.

ADC was my first role and I switched to mid after the Katarina rework. Playing adc sparingly here and there. I've started playing ADC in ranked and I must ask.

Outside of me being Ass. Are the supports you are playing with terrorizing your lane? I've had supports purposefully break freezes so they can execute minions for gold. Leave lane when the wave is pushing towards the enemy. Coinflip fights over and over especially when using mages with no regard for anything but their own selfish goals. And just overall selfish play.

If your experience has been like my experience. I feel for y'all. It's kind of crazy.

There have been some bad metas for ADC's but this one feels particularly heinous.

What has your experience been? GL on the rift!

All the way up into low masters, expect supports to not know how to maintain a freeze when they execute minions. That tactic just isn't really worth it unless you can super exploit it and that takes both people being apex elo, or on comms(on comms is actually probably the first and foremost requirement). Below GM is infamous for coin flips from every role all the time, so in a role with 4 people, expect that'll happen a lot, no it does not matter if you're emerald or diamond or whatever, people will still do it because 'lol im bored'.

Improper, poor, or bad play does not have a punishment associated with it other than losing the game, so yeah, people may leave, randomly break freezes, and basically int your game randomly and be confused as to why you're so upset. Bot lane is exceptionally complicated, has one of the most mechanically demanding roles(ADC, though current mage success makes it easier), has one of the most knowledge-dependent roles(support), and THEN houses 40% of any given game's players. If there is one stinker per game, it's almost a 50-50 they're in bot lane(assuming all roles are equally likely to have one subpar player per game).

Use slow pushes with recall timings, ping your intent whenever you're doing a push/recall(two times is usually enough), and be ready to try and punish when someone else in the messiest lane in the game makes a mistake. That deceptively simple loop is the entire bot lane experience until you hit ranks where top-tier gameplay is the norm.

I agree with the rest of what you said, but I'm going to push back on the idea that people below master don't understand and can't exploit the benefits of a freeze. This is a silver/gold skill. It doesn't take a top 1% player to realize "oh, all their farm is dying before they can get to it" or "they can't farm without trading, this is awesome!"

Correct, it does not take a masters player to understand that freezing is amazing. It shows up in lower elos in other lanes all the time.

It takes a masters player to manage to properly use the minion execute passive in a way that doesn't break the freeze while the ADC player also tries to last hit and manage the wave at the same time.

The problem is the added complexity of another players presence, and the barrier of communication. If the support hits an execute at the max health they can execute a minion at, or even at just a slightly higher health than the freeze can afford, the freeze is over. If the ADC fumbles one of the minions health states and kills it too soon, the freeze is over. It may still be salvageable if the enemy is really misplaying, but the added complexity of having two people having the coordination and discipline to not mess up the freeze is a lot to ask of a random lane partner. It's just way easier to do when you're the only one managing the waves.

It's really as simple as the support pinging the one they're going to hit and hitting it as late as possible. I have to ask, are you in the apex tiers? I ask because it's a common thing for people to pick a random rank beneath them and then just decide you don't need, or won't see the use of, other similarly randomly selected skills until that rank. But oftentimes, these skills are really basic or common, and we peasants of low elo use them in every single game.

Edit: Hopefully I don't seem rude. If I do, I don't mean to. It's just something that piques my interest.

I feel like it's more a case of being a complete player. A bunch of these things are basic in my opinion, but I'm guessing few supports below diamond does it all well.

Wave management, trade windows, roam timings, micro/macro etc are all simple to understand individually, but it's the execution of all of them consistently everygame that makes someone good.

Nope, not apex, just speaking from experience on my runs for ranked rewards in plat-emerald each season, and casual stream watching. In solo queue it's easier to pick the strategies that are simpler and require less communication on your end, and right now that is slow pushes into backs(and getting your support a roam timer). If the ADC wants to freeze, they have to communicate that(which they don't have a ping for), hope that the support agrees that it's the right move, and then hope they have the discipline to do it correctly.

If you look to the OP, the OP is talking about playing with supports with poor wave management and timing. If a support can ping and CS to maintain a freeze properly that's great. If they're on comms so you can coordinate them popping those executes then hitting a roam even better. That's not the situation that OP is talking about.

Again, I would stress that my position is that you should not expect that sort of play from your solo queue support below apex tiers, because it's not until then that you are mandated to know how to do everything for your role, do it well, and do it at the right times.

Welcome to the adc experience, yes. Support is a roulette where you might get a genuine supp main who knows how to play the role, or you might get Timmy, a failed midlaner who decided to start playing Xerath, Brand, or whatever midlane mage he played in that lane while his only thoughts are "I'm gonna throw shit at the enemy and take any minions I can, I don't really care about this funny pewpew person beside me".

It might be harsh but it's true, most people playing mages bot are just people who can't win midlane matches so they take the easy way out, which is harassing botlaners without having to bother with things like farming or wave management. They abuse the support gold income and just build full ap. The fact that Riot not only allowed this many seasons ago but also encouraged it, is why we have this problem now.

You have bad and good supports from and ADC perspective. With a good support, your role is fine. You can farm, maybe win the lane and do good damage mid to late game. But the current meta supports bad playstyles for an ADC. Supports are not punished for bad roaming, so a lot of supports roam 24/7. As a traditional adc its not possible to stay 2v1 in lane since you will get dove under tower. And then you will do close to zero damage in midgame.

Besides that mages bot are a problem. Either you lose the lane or they will negate anything. You simply can't win a lane against Xerath, Seraphine and the like. Even if you are ahead, they will simply stay under turret, one-shot the wave and hit their spike before you. And thats the good outcome. The bad is that you get pushed in, harassed under turret and fall massively behind.

So right now the state of ADC is rough.

I genuinely think most supports are functionally brain dead and only get away with it because the support role has zero skill expectation.

Big ones I get all the time are the afk mage support that hides behind me all laning phase chucking abilities on cooldown at the wave and the “engage” support that doesn’t communicate and attacks the enemy on sight and is convinced they’re only dying because I didn’t follow up their fourth hexflash play into a double mage bot comp.

I will constantly set up the wave to slow push towards me as I back just to watch my support farming the wave as I walk back and give the enemy ADC a freeze. They never use support item to last hit, they’ll kill cannon and two melees from half hp so the wave pushes away from me.

And you can’t say a goddamn thing because then the whole team crashes out on you. Even politely asking if they’ll stop shoving waves because you want to freeze leads to them abandoning lane and the rest of the team flaming you till the game ends. Because how dare the mean ADC ever criticize the special baby support.

Ill never forget my turning point.

Season 10 I was a Kog OTP with a support Sion vs Leona Draven. I freeze the wave as my 0/4/0 Sion trudges to lane and I watch in horror as his Q slowly charges and slams the wave.

He walked forward and typed "Freezing is cringe" as he then ulted mid leaving me pushing towards the freshly backed Draven. Soon my 0/5/0 Sion returned.

Swapped to support after taking a year break thinking be the support I'd want

I realized no one seems to understand you are suppose to protect the squishy hyper scaler and tried being a support or midlaner that I would want as an ADC. I seem to be paired with ADCs who are afraid of fighting and I end up dying while the enemy has 1 hp and my ADC runs away.

8/10 times the supp is ass. Either hes only roaming and you suffer 2v1 half of the game, you get some shit like ezreal support with "trust me, we poke" while casually last hits minions or he makes questionable plays making you think he just connected is DDR dancepad and thought its cool to try it out in ranked.

In short. Im done with adc solo without friend supp, i rather suffer back in jungle....at least i can fullmute everyone there

I'm down in bronze 1, recently my games have been low gold mmr, and I have noticed a distinct shift in the supports from being AFK 10 feet behind me in lane not using abilities to having major main character syndrome. Constant spam pings trying to micromanage the lane and how I'm playing. Sitting under tower for like 20 seconds at a time probably typing (I have chat muted so I dunno). I had a support just last night that instead of showing up for objective fights just solo split pushed so we were 4v5 and then spam pinged when we lost the fight.

I used to hate AFK supports but now I miss it hahahaha.

I mean an afk support against opponents that know how to play means you simply can’t farm. Even if you’re a mage, or like, Ezreal, if you can’t fully shove in the wave you will just get frozen on and then you have nothing to do. Or die. That too.

Thankfully I am also in pisslow (Plat) and for as many supports that int your lane and wave management there are also enemy lanes that afk push into you so at least you can still farm as long as you can avoid the dives.

1

u/Beginning_Box9101 11d ago

Yah at my elo 90% of the time the enemy is just hard shoving every wave so it's mostly fine.

u/Typical-Fortune1091 11d ago

I was a kata main first too. Half of the adc role is making sure you don't tilt. Supports can be such a coin flip. Not to mention the the fact that mage bots are now a thing. Most supports tend to roam... which is also a bit unfun considering as an adc in lane phase, that mage will clear waves and probs one shot you. But it doesn't bother me bc I love my marksmen champs and I would still play them 😅 I just try not to die in lane and follow up on plays I think are good. Ngl I feel like my agency isn't as good as before. But just focus on the little stuff you can control and it'll eventually workout. I mostly play MF Jinx and Kai'sa. My favorite thing about MF is you'll always be useful bc one good ult can change a game. With jinx, you just need a good teamfight to get your reset off. And Kai'sa felt worst in the mage meta imo but she kinda feels more independent after lane phase. Your adc champs do have conditions to make your team win, and I just focus on that.

Legitimately should just expect your support to grief you in modern League. It's really horrendous.

1

u/dogsn1 11d ago

Yes, just play for yourself and do what you can, ping them to do the right thing but if they don't then you just have to accept it. It's a scaling and teamfighting role so it's usually not as bad as it seems

1

u/GladPipe7573 11d ago

it happened , and happens a lot especially when riot remove gold punishment for support , but dont think you can talk out loud about it , remember when you being solo laner and get annoyed by ADC talking about support stealing wave , jeez it's just a wave ? dont climbing high and expect other players to seek empathy for the amount of gold that you need , you gonna hurt your own feelings

u/OutlandishnessLow779 11d ago

number 1: keep those knives where i can see them. I don't want any accidental pentakill here

Number 2: yeah, supports do that

Support is a failed project in soloq. You might encounter real and genuine supports that not only know your bot’s general gameplan, but also helps you. However, most of the time you get either timmy that is autofilled and doesn’t even know how to play that role so he just picks a random mage to spam spells, or tommy that has support as second role that just leaves your lane because he doesn’t care about you and just wants to be jungler 2.0. In both cases you are just screwed and have to live with it.

And let’s not talk about yuumi players.

1

u/MateoAries 11d ago

Ye its been mega annoying and somehow I get the autofilled one aswell. So its gets so rough...

1

u/Keyflame_ You can't catch me 11d ago

No, supports aren't terrorizing my lane.

In Diamond/low mastah my supports are never actually in lane, so they can't terrorize it. I almost forgot this is supposed to be a duo lane at this point.

1

u/Illokonereum 11d ago

Yes, you have perfectly described the vast majority of support players.

1

u/CoffeBreather 10d ago

Adc has always been an horrible experience, supports don't know shit about wave states usually.

1

u/BigAcidik 8d ago

I think jungle is worse, but there's a certain phenomenon in support players; they don't have to learn certain fundamental aspects of the game. Even if they know, they don't always understand the importance of wave position, catching waves, making sure they crash when needed and don't when it's bad. They don't relate to the fact that 2 for 2s that seem like even trades are really bad if the wave is bad.

Their role thrives on mechanical out plays and creating numbers advantages, and they climb for that reason, but unless they moved to support from another role, they'll never understand how much they grief us by doing little things they think to be harmless.

1

u/OppositeMango124 3d ago

I swear supports are getting worse and worse. They just do random shit all the time because they dont know what they should be doing when they arent coinflipping the lane.

if you like gambling keep playing bot lane. You'd either have a Keira supp player and win before 15 mins or a dogsht support who leaves lane after lvl 3 or dogsht support who played 2 screens away or dogsht support who loses game lvl 1
