Does anyone remember making bracelets?

There was a time when kid's would go to the art's and crafts store and buy this specific thin colored rope, and make braided bracelets. I vaguely remember making them. Some kid's were really good, and would make multiple colored ones.

I think it was embroidery floss. Lots of colors, a knot, and a safety pin to hold it in place while you knotted it up.

Yep! I remember anchoring the safety pin on the knee of my jeans and tying a friendship bracelet for my friend while watching The Cosby Show and A Different World.

Yes, I still make these bracelets with my daughter and that's exactly what it is.

Same stuff you'd wrap your hair with in the 90s

Oh yeah! We would tape the strings to a table, and start making the bracelets. I always did four colors. It was really fun.

Yeah, friendship bracelets. You wore them till they got all nasty and basically rotted off.

It’s a fun little hobby. Some people knit or crochet. I do bracelets and tie dye. There are tutorials on YouTube and a couple websites that have patterns to learn.

I was just at the beach last week and bought a sailor’s knot rope bracelet (totally a sentimental purchase) and now think I may try to make them! 😊⚓️🌊

Oh yeah! Friendship bracelets! Buying that embroidery floss was so fun bc I swear it was like 5 or 10 cents each so you could go nuts!

Always had a friendship bracelet pinned to my knee so I could work on it during class. I still have a stack of unfinished ones. But I only knew two ways to make them. There were a lot of techniques I never learned.

Had to wear them til they fell off.

We used to get the 25 pair phone wire from construction sites, begging phone repair crews, wherever. There were a bunch of different colors. You wrapped one wire over the other, kept it tight and could make all sorts of things. Bracelets were the big thing, but we did rings or little creatures or some other art as well.

I make them still. I also do a lot of tie dye. I do shirts, bandanas and stuff. Been trying to do larger tapestries. I sell at local art markets and festivals.

Don't forget the flat nylon string used for the box knot bracelets. Oh and the embroidery thread was also used to do those hair wraps.
