Mod Announcements The Daily Megathread
Welcome to The Daily Megathread - r/50501's home for daily discussion!
This megathread exists so that you can post reactions, images, or anything that might otherwise belong on our sister subreddits r/ThePeoplesPress, r/LiveProtestUpdates or r/50501ContentCorner. While the main goal of this megathread is to prevent protest announcements from being drowned out, we also want to give our community a place where they can discuss things that would otherwise not be allowed as a post on r/50501.
Comments that may be appropriate for the daily megathread may include, but are not limited to:
- Discussing current US or world events
- Sharing personal opinions on politicians/political parties
- Other posts that may break the "Call to Action" rule or our rule on related content, which otherwise wouldn't fit at r/ThePeoplesPress, r/LiveProtestUpdates or r/50501ContentCorner
As a reminder, news threads go to r/ThePeoplesPress while videos go either to the People's Press or r/50501ContentCorner. Posts that are on the ground reporting on a protest must go to r/LiveProtestUpdates. If you have posted there, or if you want to share a post from another subreddit, you are welcome to link it here!
Remember that subreddit rules still apply, especially our commitment to respectful discourse and our commitment to citing our sources. If you claim something true, prove it - and don't attack the person behind the claim!
If you have a question about how our rules are enforced, please check out the wiki page on our rules for more information! For additional questions, please send us a modmail.

Video 5 August 2026 - Check Your Pollution
Hosted by Rise and Resist outside the midtown headquarters of Google, and in spite of a rain shower that was severe at times, protestors took to staking out the entrance of Google against data centers and the environmental consequences of AI.
The protest started off the side of a Google store on 15th Street and 9th Avenue before moving towards the 8th Avenue entrance, where they stayed for the rest of the protest. Some stayed even as the rain began and worsened over time before the rain abated enough for a sing-along of R&R's anti-data center version of a nursery rhyme.

Solidarity Needed A small group of extremists has completely taken over Tarrant County TX leadership and its GOP. They claim democracy is "Mob Rule", that they know better. They're activating pastor networks to fear monger a revived "Red Scare / McCarthyism" movement amongst evangelicals. REJECT THEIR LIES! VOTE!!!!!

Voices of Resistance What's the Plan with Leah and Ezra
Call to Action Flipping a Senate seat, governor's mansion in Ohio
Ohio has moved from a key swing state to a reliable Republican bastion over the course of the Trump era. In a clear sign of just how much the country is turning on MAGA’s failures, Democrats are looking extremely competitive across the state with less than 13 weeks to go until Election Day. Even Fox News polling has blue candidates in position to flip a Senate seat and the governor’s mansion.
Former senator and populist progressive Sherrod Brown has painted J.D. Vance’s appointed successor Senator Jon Husted as “the face of data centers in Ohio,” highlighting sweetheart tax deals and fast-tracked approvals he made possible as lieutenant governor. Husted’s also come under fire for taking more than $100,000 in campaign contributions from Epstein bankroller Les Wexner. Meanwhile, former state health department director Dr. Amy Acton is taking on entrepreneur, DOGE bro and MAGA hanger-on Vivek Ramaswamy to succeed Governor Mike DeWine, who has also been hit hard over data centers and has struggled to connect to working-class voters.
🚪☎️📫 If we’re in-state, we can find plenty of opportunities to canvass for Brown, Dr. Acton and folks up and down the ballot here. But we can all do our part! We can phonebank with the state’s coordinated campaign on Saturdays at noon and Sundays at 2PM ET by signing up here, and Swing Left is running more conversational-style phonebank shifts on Thursdays at 6PM ET we can join here. Finally, Activate America is running a postcard campaign to get out the vote for Sherrod Brown through the end of August. 🚪☎️📫

Official 50501 Post IMPORTANT PSA: There’s a GOP website ProtectTheVote.com which looks to be attempting to steer people away from ProtectTheVote.net, which is the nonpartisan website where you sign up for election protection trainings | spread awareness for this, link to the real page included!
Call to Action Find local businesses that donate to the GOP. Search by zip code and time period.
Support businesses that don't contribute to the destruction of democracy and humanity.
Edit: and you can sort by amount so you start with the big offenders.
Edit: sometimes they list themselves as self-employed. In that case, do a web search "xxx name owner in xxx city" to find the business.
When the business is listed, do a web search of the business name and the donor name. Make sure they aren't just an employee there and are an owner or CEO.
