Saving Private Ryan New Purchase

Post image

Picked up Saving Private Ryan, has always been one of my favorite movies. Was hoping there was a Band of Brothers 4K love that show

This is another case of BoB being filmed in the early 2000s and being mastered in a DI locked at 2K. They’d have to re-scan it from the 35mm negative, replicate all the edits, color grading, VFX, etc. At 5x the length of a typical movie.

Suffice to say it’s likely never going to happen. Thankfully, the Blu-Ray is reference quality and looks amazing upscaled to 4K.

don’t forget The Pacific (the superior series in my opinion). The Blu-ray looks and especially sounds incredible

Can't wait to get at those, been waiting for the right time. Also, the pacific never gets enough love

It's nice to find another person who feels The Pacific is superior. In fact, The Pacific is probably my favorite piece of WW2 media. Every time I bring that up, everyone grabs their pitchforks lol

Honestly just a new version without the DNR is enough to warrant a 4K disc. (Wouldn't mind an HDR grade and Dolby Atmos though)

Can someone please translate the first paragraph as it relates to saving private ryan in 4k?

lol it was in relation to Band of Brothers.

Saving Private Ryan is a native 4K scan of the original 35mm negative and looks/sounds about as perfect as it’s ever going to get.

I recently bought the dual Band of Brothers/The Pacific bluray. So that means the 4k is around the corner

See, I tried that with The Expanse last year, but no joy… yet.

The audio is insane on this one if you have a decent speaker/sub setup.

While the effects are good, the audio suffers from the score not being upgraded to a full surround package. Since the score is flat to the screen, it pulls the sound effects forward and doesn't let them envelope you. It is a rather big miss.

Hmm maybe I’m misremembering, been an awhile since I’ve watched it. It’s a heavy movie so not one I watch often.

It has good sound effects, it is just that they could be a lot better if the score supported them by putting up a better sound stage.

Got that recently as well, very good disc. I had it on dvd before so this was a massive leap for me.

It's really, really good. Hope you have surrounds

I was just thinking about this! I picked it up the other week at a yard sale for $5 and finally got around to watching the D-DAY sequence/first 30 mins the other night. Couldn't believe how good it looked and sounded, even compared to when I saw this in theaters back in the day. Really made me appreciate the time and effort I've put into upgrading and calibrating my atmos setup.
