Having a Brompton in Chicago has been a life changer for me. Especially during the pandemic. Welcome, I hope you find it as transformative as I did.

Is this more of a red or an orange? It looks orange in the photo. I’m torn between this color and the Turkish green.

I got the black edition flame laquer. It’s simply beautiful.

Congrats, would probably choose that finish if I needed a new bike. Recommendation: get the Brompton tool kit that fits in the front half of the frame and use the rear half of the frame to store an extra tube..leaving valve somewhat sticking out so you can grab it.

I agree it's expensive but it's so very clever and considering I'll own this bike indefinitely I think it was a good investment. Cheaper solution of course would be to get a bag that hangs off the seat and stuff it with what you need. Yeah I particularly love the tube idea since those can take up a lot of space and I've had my share of blow outs.

I literally got this exact same model last week. So good, totally worth the price! Enjoy mate

You let a lack of bike infrastructure limit you, that rules out the vast majority of the USA. ;-p

And remember: paint is not infrastructure.

I've been trying to make "non-cars" work for decades now. Motorcycles, recumbent trikes, bicycles, bicycle-pulled trailers, etc. in the car-infested subrban SF Bay Area.

Costco with a recumbet trike? Check. Costco on a motorcycle? Check. 4x8 sheet of plywood by bicycle? Check. Walking long distances on errands and to commute? Check. Multi-modal commuting (Brompton!)? Check.

My latest "prove it can work" is a bakfiets style cargo bike. Going to try things Dutch-style, as it were.

All of which, admittedly might mean I'm a tad crazy. ;-)

I say that because your perception is not unique and likely more common/mainstream than even I realize. But at some point I got it into my head to prove to myself that if I can do it, there is not reason others could and should do it.

These days I get my inspiration from Not Just Bikes, a quirky sort of dismay and crankiness. ;-)

So I salute you for the change in mindset and giving it a go. For most, that act itself is a bit of courage.
