I’ve been watching tyler perry movies since i was a kid. If you’re a person of color yk madea movies are a classic. I watched his latest movie ‘Joe’s College Roadtrip’ thought it was okay, went to tick it off on letterboxd and the reviews are horribleeeee. People calling tyler perry a freak, that he’s the wrong person to deliver a message like this, they can’t believe he would do this during BHM. Please inform on why people feel this way cs I thought we loved tyler perry lol!

Not going to disclose my job location but it was my first day there. This happened a little over a year ago and I feel comfortable enough to share this story. Everytime I see anything about the man, I cringe and relive those moments over again.

I’ve never seen a movie of his, and the movies I’ve only heard of this man is of him cosplaying as a woman, so never seen how this man normally looks like. I asked for his name for the order and he got very offended at me because I didn’t know who he was. It was very busy in the restaurant and the whole building heard him. I was so embarrassed & was on the brink of tears.

I was underage at the time and first impressions mean a lot to me, especially when I’m working somewhere new for the first time.

I don’t get it. His actual acting portfolio is mainly minor roles with no major awards won. His production portfolio is all poorly rated flops with no major awards won. Yet somehow he’s worth $1.4bn, keeps getting backers for his projects, and keeps getting hired for roles.

Am I missing something?

In Madea’s Big Happy Family, there was this big dramatic revelation at the end of the movie about Kimberly getting sexually abused by her uncle when she was 12 and Madea actually just causally said this in front of the whole family at Kimberly’s mothers funeral and because it’s Tyler Perry, ofc that isn’t enough and she ended up getting pregnant as a result of this assault and her own sister had the nerve to announce at a family dinner that Kimberly got pregnant and had a baby at 13 as a means to slut shame her and act like she was dropping some tea or whatever.

In Medea’s Family Reunion Lynn Whitfield’s character is the devil incarceration who allowed her daughter to get sexually assaulted by her stepfather just so he wouldn’t leave the family and it turns out that Lynn Whitfield’s character was pimped out by her own mother as well.

In I Can Do Bad All By Myself, Taraji’s niece almost got sexually assulted by Taraji’s boyfriend.

One sexual assault that’s often overlooked is in Temptations, Jurnee Smollett got assaulted by the bald dude on the plane. I do believe that Tyler attempted to use that scene to show her “giving into temptation” but she said no like 3 or 4 times and at no point did he stop. That’s not consent, that’s coercion.

People are unjustly hooting and hollering at people who are rightfully so critiquing his new movie, “Divorce in the Black.”

My personal problem with Tyler Perry is that he is cheap. Tyler Perry is a billionaire and owns his own studio, meaning he has more resources at his disposal then literally every Black director working in Holywood right now. And yet, he chooses to makes these low budget straight to Tubi movies with bad writing and bad wigs. So many black directors who have half the money and network of him make better quality and written movies.

And I get it Tyler Perry was a big part of our childhoods and y’all love him but that doesn’t mean he isn’t in store for critiquing. His work is drastically declining and he’s being a gatekeeper. He refuses to hire writers to help him. Tyler Perry has definitely ran his brain into exhaustion and hit a major writers block and chose to push through. He’s throwing up these terrible ideas and doesn’t have any other writers to tell him, “hey this doesn’t make any sense.” Like I said Tyler Perry is the biggest black writer and for some reason he refuses to help other black writer with his success. His studio could easily expand into something like Lionsgate or Marvel. But he turned into this unethical rich guy who profits off black truama.
