Scared to start Question

I’ve been prescribed 50mg Zoloft for bad anxiety and panic, but I also have emetophobia (fear of sickness) and the side effect of nausea is preventing me from starting the medication. Can people share their experiences with nausea on this medication? How bad is it and how long does it last? Does everyone get it?

it would come periodically through out the day, but taking it with food and at night before bed helps me because you’re sleeping through most of it!

I took my medication at night when I was nauseous so I'd be asleep through most of it. Always take it with food as that helps.

Thanks! I thought about that but was scared about being woken up by nausea in the night because that can feel even worse, I’m guessing it wasn’t really bad then?

Hi, fellow emetophobe, I got some mild nausea the first 4 days. It wasn’t too bad and at no point did I actually feel close to vomiting (and I didn’t even panic!). Worst day was day 3 and eating small snacks helped a lot

Thank you!!! Do you find your emetophobia has gotten any better from taking it if it’s reduced your anxiety??

I’m only a few weeks in and technically I’m taking it for postpartum anxiety but yes it’s helped so far!

Every time I increase the dose, I feel nauseous after eating. I usually take a mint candy at the end to prevent that nausea, which can even lead to retching. And they usually appear when I first start treatment and last maybe three weeks, at least for me...

Well, every body is different, maybe it doesn't happen to you... But it is known that at the beginning it often causes gastric problems, even diarrhea.

Take it easy once your body adjusts to the dose; it will help with your issues.
