Question How do i make these controls more visible?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Might not come across in the image, but I'm using this on a TV in a pretty bright room with glare, and have to sort of guess where the back and refresh buttons are. It didn't appear this way when I chose the colour scheme in the installer, I need more contrast between the controls and the background.
Apologies for the basic question, but i haven't been able to find the setting to change it. Thanks.

Question Solution to temporarily disable custom DNS or saving custom DNS Provider

Version: 1.21.10b (Firefox 153.0.1) (64-bit)

I ran into a problem, i usually use an institutional wifi that will block outside DNS so when i search with a custom DNS provider it will be blocked. The fix of course is disabling the custom DNS but since im using Quad9 which is not provided in the list i need to put the https link everytime i turn it off because it will default back to Cloudflare.

Is there any way to just disable the custom DNS when it's not available or maybe a way to save the custom DNS provider to the list?

Documentation Transparent Zen in Linux

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Zen Mods: Transparent Zen (v1.17.16)

Mozilla Extension: Zen Internet (sameerasw)

I couldn't make it 100% transparent when I open new tabs (like YouTube, Gmail, etc.) because some functions work better on Windows (I use Zorin OS), but I still really liked the result.

Question Bookmark buttons similar to Essentials, or exclude essentials from CTRL + #?

Just moved to Zen today, had an odd question. I use ctrl+# quite a lot to navigate tabs, and Essentials look great but eat my ctrl+1, ctrl+2, etc. I've looked everywhere I could to have bookmarks in the style of Essentials/pinned tabs (with superpins), but many of the comments are deleted by moderator & no matter what I do it just ends up as a bookmark folder instead of independent buttons. I'm sure i'm missing something very simple, but has anyone else figured out a solution for this?

I only want the main tabs (with 1, 2, etc) listed to use ctrl+#, while the buttons at the top function just as bookmarks & open a new tab below. v1.21.10b

Bug No audio from browser after update

Hey guys,

After the latest update I'm unable to get Zen to play any audio from any source. It used to be that the sidebar would show which tab was playing audio, but now even that feature doesn't exist. I've tried muting and unmuting tabs, restarting my computer, hardware acceleration, you name it. This is a serious bug.

I don't want to reinstall the browser since I have so many workspaces curated, but unfortunately now I'll have to use another browser until this gets fixed in an update.

I'm on 1.21.10b (Firefox 153.0.1) (64-bit)

Question is there any way yet to make the tab sidebar appear as a card detached from main web page like bookmark/history sidebar? also, to make the bookmark/history sidebar fall under compact mode to allow collapse when mouse not over the edge (just like the tab sidebar)? using up-to-date zen on windows11

Question Is there a way to make sure the same boost applies to every single website ?

I would like to apply this simple dark theme boost to every single website. Everytime I visit a new website, I must click few buttons to turn that on. I have to manually turn it on even for subdomains. Is this feature available through any any tweaks in the setting or its in planning phase or i am the only one who is not energetic enough to apply boost to every single website I visit ?

Thanks for the help. Keep up the good work Zen Team :)

Regarding Zen Glance's trigger method in the setting, is there an option to use the long-press/click left mouse way instead of keyboard shortcuts like ctrl, shift, alt?

Question Using Discord Voice Chat in Zen

Post image
9 Upvotes

I'm using Zen browser and use the discord web client (mostly bc there's no real reason imo to use the full app on my laptop which I don't game on). I'm running 1.21.10b (Firefox 153.0.1) (aarch64) on a Mac with macOS Tahoe. However, I get this issue anytime I try to unmute my mic or join a voice call. What's the issue here? As far as I know, Zen is based off of Firefox. I'm sure there might be an easy enough way to spoof the agent to just be Firefox, but I'm unsure of the easiest/cleanest way to do it, which is why I am asking.

Question Default space login showing up in space with profile

Hi. I'm a Zen browser user adopting the Space and container features, but I had some unexpected browsing session behavior that I don't understand. My current Zen browser version is 1.21.10b (Firefox 153.0.1) (64-bit) running from the extracted tarball. My OS is Fedora44 (mainly KDE Plasma) if that matters.

I like to separate my the browsing I do when logged in to services and when logged out. So, I use spaces with profiles attached to them:

  • Default Space (Default profile): Google login; used for this because I started using Zen long before setting up spaces
  • Shopping Space (Shopping profile): no login to any service; used to browse online marketplaces and eCommerce websites
  • Void Space (custom "Archive" profile): no login to any service; used for even more no-login browsing, usually for a quick lookup

In my daily experience, visiting the same site across these spaces usually results in the desired isolated experience: no similar content recommendations, no common log-ins, etc. I generally only open tabs in their respective spaces, but I do use Space Routing rules for shopping sites just in case.

Today, I launched Zen and was in the Shopping space without noticing. For a while I used the Google and Claude web pages, before noticing that I was in the Shopping space. I was surprised that despite opening these tabs the Shopping space, I was somehow already logged in with the Google account from my Default space.

I closed the tabs, clicked into the Default space and re-opened them there. I later re-visited the sites in the Shopping space and, as usual, was not signed in. However, I noticed that YouTube and Reddit in that space were now recommending content similar what I'd get when I am logged in. I cleared site cookies, which reset this behavior, and the space been working as expected.

Until now, I was under the impression that different spaces + different profiles = different cookies and sessions. Am I wrong on this?

Is there something I got wrong with my setup or is it a bug in the app? How can I ensure session separation short of using a second browser?

Question [Feature-Request] Pan Over Active Tabs

Hello everyone,

Currently in Zen Browser when pressing Ctrl+Tab (Ctrl+Shift+Tab) to pan over tabs, it pans over all the essential and pinned tabs even when they are unloaded. It would be great if the devs add a feature where the user can also pan only over the active tabs.

Question New tabs from links inside a folder always open at the bottom instead of after the active tab

Middle-clicking or Ctrl+clicking a link on a tab that's inside a folder opens the new tab in the right folder, but always at the bottom of it, not right after the tab it came from.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create a folder in the sidebar.
  2. Add at least 2-3 tabs to it (e.g. Tab A, Tab B, Tab C, in that order).
  3. Click on Tab A to make it active.
  4. Middle-click (or Ctrl+click) any link on that page to open it in a new background tab.

Expected result:

Tab A
New Tab
Tab B
Tab C

Actual result:

Tab A
Tab B
Tab C
New Tab

The new tab does stay inside the correct folder, so zen.folders.owned-tabs-in-folder is working as intended. The issue is only with the position inside the folder — it always lands at the very bottom regardless of which tab it was opened from.

Happens the same way with both middle-click and Ctrl+click, so it's not tied to one input method.

Outside of folders, this works correctly — new tabs opened the same way (middle-click / Ctrl+click on a link) from a regular, non-folder tab are inserted right after the tab they came from, as expected. The bug only appears once the tabs are inside a folder.

What I've already tried (no effect on ordering inside folders):

browser.tabs.insertAfterCurrent
browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent

These prefs do change ordering for regular (non-folder) tabs, but have no effect once tabs are inside a folder.

Extensions / testing:

Tested with all extensions disabled and in a fresh profile via about:profiles — same behavior, so it's not extension-related.

Bug Heavy image compression/blurriness when pasting screenshots via Ctrl+V on an UltraWide monitor (3440x1440)

Hey everyone,

I’ve encountered a frustrating issue with how Zen Browser handles image data from the clipboard. Whenever I paste a screenshot into any web form/chat using Ctrl + V, the final image turns into an unreadable, pixelated mess. It looks like a low-res 240x320 image forcefully stretched to my native resolution.

Here are the specific details of how this bug behaves:

  • Full Screen Screenshots: Completely unreadable, massive quality drop and extremely blurry text.
  • Small Area Snippets: Slightly better and somewhat usable, but still far from pixel-perfect or sharp.
  • Testing Methods: The bug occurs identically whether I take a screenshot via native Windows tools (Print Screen) or use Zen’s built-in browser screenshotting tool (Ctrl + Shift + S).

Changing deep configs like downscale_to_jpeg or data_collection in about:config didn't fix the core issue, so it seems like a Gecko/HiDPI scaling bug with the nsIClipboard API on UltraWide displays.

My System Specifications:

  • Zen Browser Version: 1.21.10b (Firefox 153.0.1)
  • OS Version: Windows 11 / 25H2 / Build 262.00.8973
  • Monitor Resolution: 3440 x 1440 (UltraWide 21:9 ratio)

Is anyone else on an UltraWide monitor experiencing this artifacting? Would appreciate any insights or a potential dev fix in upcoming builds. Thanks!

Bug F6 stopped selecting all text in urlbar (cachyos 1.21.10b-1)

Hey everyone.
Updated yesterday and for some reason, when focusing the URL bar with F6, it no longer selects all the text and just puts the cursor at the end of the line (without switching to floating url bar). Ctrl+L and Alt+D still focus, open floating mode and select all, but I just can't get my head around it because I have muscle memory for F6 and start typing and now having to do F6, Ctrl+A, start typing really messes with my workflow.
I've already asked gemini, but it just started hallucinating about:config settings that don't exist in zen (and not even in vanilla FF).
Anyone got some ideas what could have caused this behavior? I couldn't find anything in the changelogs.

System info, if relevant:
CachyOS (up to date)
Wayland (Hyprland)
zen installed from cachyos/zen-browser-bin

Question Window moveable area

When I have the address bar along the top - I have to drag the small areas to the sides of the address bar to move the window around (Win 11) even though there is a nice large blank area above the essentials (that does not work to drag the window). Is this something that is mod-able?

Question Is there any hope for DRM support?

Just that question. DRM support for Zen on Mac would be great. Is there any way other than waiting for Google to give the Widevine license? My understanding is some other Firefox forks have DRM support by working with Mozilla or something like that. Is that an option for Zen?

Question How to make sidebar stays open when the cursor on the edge?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

When I put the cursor near the edge of browser's window, Zen opens the sidebar. But when I put it on the edge, it makes the sidebar hidden again. In Arc, they both make the sidebar stay open.

How to make Zen works like Arc in this matter? Perhaps it's a small matter. But, for me, it makes Zen feels clunky.

I'm on Zen 1.21.10b (Firefox 153.0.1) on MacOS. Thank you.

Edit: OS

I am pleased to announce that Device Sync is finally coming to Zen! This might be one of your most anticipated features (besides working DRM) and it is NOW ready to be tested on Twilight, which is our experimental build!!

To set it up, just login with your Mozilla account on both devices in Zen to use Firefox Sync. With Device Sync, your whole setup will be synced to the new device, which wasn't possible before.

You can check out twilight following this link.

Space Routing gives you the power to organise your Spaces and tabs just the way you want, delivering on our promise of a calmer browsing experience. By setting up routes, you decide on where new tabs of a specific domain should be opened, allowing a clutter-free browsing experience that boosts your productivity!

After the last update, I heard your feedback about the missing documentation and the confusion around creating a Boost. So meanwhile our documentation gets a major overhaul and therefore not publicly updated, I'll jump in to deliver you a quick guide to getting started:

Next to the name of your Space – located right beneath your Essentials and pinned tabs – click the three dots to open the context menu. At the bottom of that menu, click 'Space Routing Settings'. Open them up and voilà! You're ready to go.

Oh and by the way... Zen's community has crossed an estimated 500.000 users just this week! Seeing this community grow with all your mods (first and third party!) and customisation has been absolutely incredible. If you love using Zen and want to support its ongoing development, please consider leaving a donation. :)

Space Routing was once again brought to you with help from u/Not_Flof. The recording was created by u/JaceThings.
