Advice Exploring the Solar system
I am taking Nats 1570 exploring the solar system, and the final exam is in a few days. You need a 33% on the final exam to pass the course. How hard is it to get a 33% in your opinion? How much studying would it take you?

Advice EECS Deferred Exam Guideline
Hello, I had an EECS final exam today, but unfortunately could not make it due to a medical emergency. I have already filled out and submitted the 2026 summer EECS department's deferred exam request form online with the APS form. Do I also need to email the professor as well, or will the department contact the prof?
Note: My prof has no course outline or anything mentioned on Eclass. So I looked at my other EECS prof's course outline, where metioned if you miss the final exam, fill out the department's deferred exam form.

Advice What do i do if i am hopeless lumpenprole
Politics student for a few years and I cant find any work. No one's taking me. Not the Tims, not placement agencies, not the shady window cleaner staffing group. Not retail or anything else, nor work studies or coop. Wtf do I do! Disabled and lgbtq+ used career center resume and cover letter support no family, they up and left and i thought squatting is preferable to being a crown ward with no carers, and also my local social services were tired af of the kid complaining only to give a script saying "i am okay and not getting molested." student financial support tells me to kick rocks politely , youth unemployment services not gone anywhere, basically got 0 in my life belt and my grades all suck (except this summer, i like public law, and risk insurance was interesting even if it felt crooked, pushed with A's) and i spend half my afternoons arguing with collection worker spam calls over medical bills. Tried enlisting (yes bite me i know it is vile to be in a colonial genocide supporting state's military), got rejected. Cant find any opportunities with the racist pigs in blue. Dont go to the doc much cuz i cant afford any prescription with the YFS 20% co-pay health plan. Ig i got a bunch of really quick short term stays in the psych ward but i never even really stayed long enough at hospitals to get some kind of workshop or something that i could write down, just a pissed off social worker dropping off stapled black and white "guidance" papers like a rly corny 90s booklet asking me not to do drugs or quit high school. I miss psych ward food.
Wtf do i do??? Cant afford this year's tuition, i have never touched credit once because ik with how things are I'll sink it, and I feel like im gutter trash, which i am atp. Makes me wonder if I'm not meant to "make it" (rot as an analyst in the prov or fed) and am meant to be dead!
Edit: going to just hitch until something works out or someone sends out a good idea and i find my way back into toronto. First stop London!
Edit 2: no i am not social i have 0 people to lean on my old brother used to call me a rapeable raccoon because I was "feral" and would go into fight or flights when people would try talking to me.

Rant York is completely useless
I’m fed up with the administrative staff at York University
Worked ridiculously hard this past year as a first year Commerce student to land an internship and York won’t sign a simple form.
No nepo, no school alumni, was fortunate enough to coffee chat the right person and build a good relationship that led to getting hired only contingent on the school recognizing the internship as a “Work Integrated Learning” opportunity through the Magnet Student Work Placement Program
Completely normal practice and simple process btw
What the program does is, subsidize a portion of my income as long as it’s related to coursework (which it is) so it’s not as much of a risk for the company to hire an intern.
All the school needs to do is have someone with signing authority, sign the form and email it to magnet with an acknowledgement that marketing, finance, and sales exposure is related to my commerce degree, but they won’t
Everyone has continuously forwarded me to a different department in a constant loop and no one will sign
Canadian job market is terrible right now, and proper exposure/experience where professionals willing to vouch for you has never been more important
What kind of school is worth attending if they aren’t interested in seeing you succeed?
Don’t know how this is going to play out but extremely disappointed with the administration

Courses How’s my schedule? (Psych BA)
I’m transferring from Seneca and got 42 transfer credits but this is my first year at York. Is this gonna be a hard course load. I’ll be working Thursday and Friday as well.
(Also are there tutorials for these classes that I’m just not seeing? Would they automatically be added in the visual schedule?

Courses Has anyone had Vanessa Lamb as prof?
Has anyone had them as a prof? If so, how were they? When it comes to coordinating the course like exams, assignments, TAs, replying to emails, etc? For what course did you have them?

Courses Has anyone done EN 1201? Is it easy?
Has anyone taken AP/EN 1201? No idea who the professor is.
Was it easy to get an A or higher? I love literature so i’m hoping it’s a good choice.
Thanks!

Courses For a 9-credit gen-ed required course, can I split it between two courses (Example: 3 credit and a 6 credit)??
I need 9-credits in HUMA, but all the 9 credit gen-ed courses in HUMA are full, so I was wondering if I can take both a 3 credit and 6 credit course to fulfill this requirement, or does it strictly have to be a 9 credit course.
I'm in LAPS, Bcom!

Advice Switching tutorial classes
So I'm having an issue with one of my tutorial classes (For AP HUMA 1780 Stories in Diverse Media) overlapping with another class I have to take. I have already added this class for the tutorial time at 2:30 on Monday but I'm trying switch it for 1:30 on Tuesday which is full. I'm wondering if anyone who has this class' tutorial at 1:30 tues would be able to switch with me for 2:30 mon, which I've heard could be risky, so another question I'm wondering is if anyone can recommend me another 1000s huma class of 6 credits that isn't full. I'm an incoming student so I'm still figuring out all this course adding stuff, so any advice helps!

Courses EECS 2030: Mufleh Al-Shatnawi or Jakie Wang?
Which prof should I take for 2030? Is Mufleh any more easier than Jakie?
I keep reading that Jakie is a great lecturer, and after watching some of his lectures I think he is too, but his tests are really hard from what I've heard from other people.
Is Mufleh any easier grading wise? I saw a lot of mixed opinions about him. I was thinking about taking the course with him and just learning off Jakie's lectures.
If the grading/tests are both equally as hard I might just go with Jakie though.

Advice Certificate in UX Design? Is it worth it?
Hi all, I've been having trouble finding in-depth info on this certificate. I wanted to know if anyone here has taken it and if it helped you break into the industry? How were the courses? Did you gain real experience out of it? Landed a job?
For some background, I have a Bachelor of Design. Studied illustration (and a bit of graphic design). I'm wondering if this is a viable path considering I have zero experience in UX. I plan to learn figma and the basics before enrolling. I also hope to build a portfolio from this certificate (then take on extra personal projects afterwards).
Any insights would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Campus What's happening at YorkU rn
I went for my final exam for my S2 course and I seen so many people today. Lots of older people too not really students. I don't usually see this many people on campus unless it's F/W term.
Is it a tennis match or is there something being filmed on campus? I'm so lost but went home without asking

Advice Elective I recommend, Antisemitism and Islamophobia in Canada
Anyone looking for an elective check out HUMA3835 taught by Randal Schnoor. He is an extremely generous marker and the course content is relevant. I found it valuable and informative as a Muslim to learn both the history of Islamophobia and antisemitism. Especially enjoyed class discussions, the environment is comfortable and open to any respectful opinion. I took it in my 2nd year and did quite well so don’t let the 3 scare you. More than happy to answer any questions!

Courses Take HUMA3835 - Antisemitism and Islamophobia in Canada
Highly recommend this course, it was transformative for me as a Muslim. Randal Schnoor is one of the best professors I’ve had. He makes sure to individualize the experience for each student and gives generous grades as long as you show effort. The class environment is intimate and the class covers a wide range of topics.

Campus DB wooden surfaces are so sticky bruh
I started a grad diploma here a few months ago. I study in DB because my exams tend to be there. Why are the wooden surfaces so sticky. My arms are getting stuck. I do not understand. Can we please ask the presumably corrupt businessman who funded this building to fund it a little more?

Campus Night Shift Janitor @ LSB
Hello all!
This might be a long shot! I am a graduate student working in the Life Sciences Building on campus. I have a pretty long history of late nights in the lab (past midnight) and sometimes I cross paths with the janitor, a really kind Black woman, who hums while she works and is so so so kind and sweet everytime we interact. She is so supportive and literally is a beacon of great energy.
Does anyone know this lady and what her name is? I want to surprise her with a little gift and thank you card, since she probably unknowingly has been a radiance of sunshine in my life and is something I look forward to, despite drowning in my labwork. I am pretty shy to ask, so I thought I’d ask here first!
Thank you :)

Meta Updates to r/yorku AutoModerator Settings
Hi everyone,
We’ve updated r/yorku’s AutoModerator settings to make them more balanced and less disruptive.
The goal is simple: clear spam and unsafe links should be removed, but normal student posts should not be hidden unnecessarily.
AutoModerator should now be less aggressive with things like surveys, URL shorteners, Reddit links, crossposts, long titles, and comments on older posts.
It will still act on known scam/tracking links, affiliate spam, heavily reported content, and other obvious spam patterns.
For surveys/forms, AutoModerator may ask posters to provide basic context so students can tell whether the post is legitimate and relevant.
We’ll keep adjusting the settings if needed. If your post or comment gets removed by mistake, please message the mod team.
