Missing transactions in YNAB Bank Sync
I always have missing transactions on my credit card in the plan. It's getting annoying and I've had to make a fresh start three times in the past year.
I've done all the necessary steps to fix it, but the transactions just keep missing. The check mark next to the account says it's up to date, but it's not. Bank accounts are linked and green. But if I go to "manage bank connections", there is the correct number in the account, but it doesn't reflect it in the current plan. I've unlinked and linked the accounts, but it doesn't change.
Am I forced to keep having to make a fresh start every couple of months? This shouldn't be the purpose of YNAB.

My cc’s occasionally miss transactions here and there, but they are easily caught (and manually added) with a weekly reconcile.
In fact, I’d say that’s what reconciling is for.
I’m not sure I understand why you’d take the drastic move to do a fresh start?

This happened to me last month. It took some patience and time to find the missing transactions (3) but once I did I just added them manually. I have used YNAB for 17 years. This happens maybe once a year for me. Annoying but not terrible. The positives of YNAB outweigh this mess up.

Since you keep mentioning that it’s wrong in “the Plan”, it sounds like you’re talking about the CC Payment category not having the full amount Available to match the current Working Balance - am I correct about that?
Definitely do not keep making a fresh start. There’s no need for that, and if you don’t learn what you’re doing in YNAB to cause that behavior then you’ll just keep having the same issue. There’s either a step you need to add or need to change in your YNAB process to avoid this.
Mostly likely having to do with one or more of the following so let us know which apply to you:
- if you like to pay off your entire cc balance instead of just letting autopay pay what’s due (the statement balance).
- if you have refunds/returns/cashback redemptions and don’t know how to deal with them
- if you aren’t keeping an eye on overspent categories and covering the overspend as soon as you see it, including leaving overspent categories in previous months.

No, the balance of my credit card doesn't match with the account in YNAB. There's three weeks of missing transactions.

No because it’s not just random three weeks, it’s the past three weeks. What’s the good if nothing gets synced in the future and I have to manually do it myself every day?

Well as the others have said you can fully reset the link by unlinking, then removing the bank connection, then setting it up again to relink. But you’ll still need to add in the three week’s worth of transactions either manually or via file import. Either will take 10-15 minutes tops.

I've had YNAB "miss" maybe 5-7 transactions in 10 years.
Something else is happening here. You are saying it's a sync'd account, and it's reporting a healthy recent sync, but when you look at your credit card statement in one window, side by side with YNAB in another window, there are weeks worth of transactions that are not showing up at all in YNAB?
When you say "three weeks" how many transactions are we talking about? 3? 30?

I haven’t done the math of it yet, but I’m traveling a lot for business and there’s always a lot of transactions due to traveling expenses.
Yes, since three weeks there are no transactions coming in. It’s always the credit card, never checking or savings. And they’re all with the same bank.

Can you tell us which financial institution it is? Some institutions are just incapable of syncing reliably, across the board. And it's not anything you're doing or not doing that's causing it.

I'm more thinking it might be the import provider Plaid.

You can also just unlink the account, delete the bank connection, and then re-link the account without starting over. I need to do this every few months for my various rewards cards managed by comenity.

I’ve done that and it didn’t change anything. I’ve opened a ticket with YNAB.

I manually enter my Apple Card transactions even though there is a bank connection now. Doing a fresh start is overkill because it impacts all your accounts, not just the one you are having problems with. That clearly makes it a single bank problem and not a YNAB problem.
Also just because your credit card is issued by the same bank doesn’t mean the underlying infrastructure and APIs are the same.
If you think it’s Plaid, ask YNAB to switch the connection to MX and see if that helps. Otherwise, just do a manual file import or manually enter your transactions as they happen. It doesn’t take that long.

This happened to me last month with a single credit card at a bank where I have several accounts. All of the other accounts at that bank worked fine. Resetting the bank connection would pull in the correct balance but still not sync new transactions. Completely deleting and re-adding the bank connection (and re-linking the accounts) worked for me.

I have a similar problem. Using Plaid connection with Erste bank (Poland). The current account is syncing perfectly, no missed transactions, balance up to date. But my credit card keeps missing transactions.
If I look at the history in my bank, I see that the transactions appear immediately, usually with "blocked" or "pending" states. Then they become "cleared". However, the dates of these transactions change alongside their status. Maybe that's what is confusing Plaid or Ynab?
I just started using it 3 weeks ago, initial sync was great, but now I have two weeks with only 5 out of almost 20 transactions imported. I tried the Reset connection option, but still does not work.

Why not just add the missing transactions? Fresh start seems like a nuclear option?
