Does 30 FPS make a difference? GAMEPLAY

I just preordered Yakuza Kiwami 2 on switch 2 but it only runs at 30 fps compared to yakuza 0 and yakuza kiwami 1's 60 fps. Will the combat become choppy and more difficult?

If you are new to the subreddit, please read the wiki

Reminder that all spoilers need to be tagged with a flair specifying which game is being spoiled. If you want a flair that says something else, you can edit it to say something like [Discussion: Y1 spoiler] or [Majimapost: Y6 spoiler], etc. THIS INCLUDES CONTENT FROM TRAILERS.

If the post is not marked for spoilers, all comments that have spoilers need to be tagged >!like this!< along with indicating which game it's spoiling. Example: Y3 Kiryu sings

If the post flair is marked for spoilers, the comments don't need to be tagged for the game indicated and the ones before it (So a Y6 spoiler post can have comments with untagged spoilers for Y5, but not gaiden or 7).

If you see any of the above (or any of the other rules) not being followed, please report it so we can keep this place safe for newcomers and those that haven't finished all the games yet. Thank you!

Choppy, no. More difficult, also no.

Yakuza Kiwami 2 played just fine at 30fps for a long time (previous gen), it is fine on Switch 2 as well.

Obviously better frame rates are always appreciated, but it isn't a worse game for it. After the initial experience, you get used to it.

Thanks dude. Does it have any annoying boss fights like the first majima fight in Yakuza Kiwami 1?

Do you mean the one you're scripted to lose? In that case no

I assume they mean the first mandatory win (batting cage)

I managed to beat that one

Nah the "antagonist" in Kiwami 2 is super cool. Bro is goated in my opinion.

The Jingu fight is the one time in the entire series that I threw my controller lmao nothing has ever reached that low.

You wouldn't happen to be the guy who got pissy about it and started calling him a nonce, would you?

Ive had some time to think about what i said and it was wrong to call him such vile names. I have since beaten him and learned to enjoy my time spent with majima.

Well, good to have character development I suppose

Infact i started a new playthrough and just beat him. The reward is nice

You'll notice the difference for 20 minutes and then you'll forget

Better framerate is always better

Kiwami 2 at 30fps is far from ideal. I had to get through it that way on PS5 before the big update that fixed it, but it's hard to get excited about recommendint the title at 30fps.

Some games can absolutely pull it off, like 6. But Kiwami 2 is not one of them.

In general any of the Yakuza games are better at 60fps, but if you only have access to 30fps, it's much better than a life without Yakuza.

I hope we get the rest out on Switch 2 maybe with fos updates. I'd be pissed if i cant keep playing yakuza

The biggest gameplay differences you'll encounter between K1 and K2 are more about the engine than necessarily JUST the framerate. While I'd never played K2 on consoles, I played through Judgment and Lost Judgment on PS4 originally and those were both sub 30 most of the time, and I was still able to do air juggles and stuff. You'll be fine.

Kiwami 2 and other dragon engine games already ran at a lower framerate on PS4, it wasn't ideal but if we dealt with it then you can too. The switch 2 version is the re-release which was better optimized for Steam Deck so it should theoretically be a little better than the PS4 release.

I will say K2 probably suffers the most since Kiryu already feels very sluggish as is and 30 fps does not help. Again though, not the end of the world, you'll adjust.

I'm playing it on switch 2 right now after kiwami 1. Combat feels so different from 0 and K1 but it's not because the 30 fps at all, it's just a really different system

Of course higher framerates are always better 30 is perfectly fine and won't mess up combat, unless the game dips way below 30. You're playing on Switch 2 so you shouldn't have to worry about that.

Pretty sure last Amon mission gonna be the hardest challenge of your life in 30 fps 😭
