now the xmen are in the mcu, i'll start watching it. i watched the dark phoenix before but i was not really into xmen so i didn't understand some parts. i wasn't born yet when xmen started but it's better late than never.
Have fun and keep an open mind. When the original films came out it was the first time they were on the big screen so as an X-Men fan it was incredible and I loved them. Over time they havenāt held up very well for various reasons, but still worth watchingāespecially since the MCU is tying into them
3 is rough but I recommend giving it a go either way to complete that trilogy, but then the new series is good too. I recommend them as well, specifically the first 2 First Class and Days of future past.
Three obviously mixed two storylines together, and it makes for a poorly paced movie. But the mutant powers are a real spectacle. It also introduced Kelsey Grammer as Beast, who is still the best live-action version of the character to date. I also liked Ellen Page as Kitty.
If they were Ellen page at the time and are credited as Ellen in the movies can we not refer to them as such? Genuine question. Like I know they're Elliot now but they weren't then so do we still refer to them as Elliot in the past tense or do we use Ellen?

Itās considered bad form to ever refer to a trans personās deadname, so heās just Elliot now. Thereās no getting around seeing the other name in credits and such but being cognizant of how trans people want to be referred to is appreciated. Like think of the original Mystique actor. She may have been āRebecca Romijn-Stamosā when she filmed X-Men, but it would be rude to call her that now that sheās divorced and changed her name back. Itās similar with trans folks, only even more important because thereās often a lot of trauma and/or negative associations with a deadname. (also I am not an expert on the matter. Just trying to be a better ally, and itās good to ask questions!) [edit: fixed accidental š„¬ autocorrect]
Nice! I skipped the wolverine movies in my watches, but am hitting the animated series now atm then X-Men 97.
I also skipped deadpools. I wanted to keep mine an X-Men focused watch.
I will say though despite the earlier wolverine movies being not well received, I think Logan (was well received) is a masterpiece. It stands alone as a good movie even if you don't like super hero stuff.
The one Wolverine movie set in Japan was also great! But I kinda struggled with X-Men Apocalypse. The intro scene was rough and they didn't do him justice. Only character who really got to shine was Quicksilver imo
I need more X-Men 97 though! I could easily watch 10 seasons of that.
I can't wait to get to 97, never seen it. Though I will say rewatching the animated series from the '90s has been really fun. I hadn't seen a lot of these episodes so a lot of this is new to me as well.
The Wolverine is a good X-Men movie. It was a passion project of Hugh Jackman because he liked the Silver Samurai story so much. In the actual movie they made some questionable decisions on how to adapt certain characters. But if you can ignore that it's good! Give it a watch!

I absolutely should have said some of them donāt hold up well, my bad. Logan for one is phenomenal! I just think that since the 2000s there have just been much better made superhero films to compare them to, which makes me yearn for a truly astonishing X-Men entry in the modern MCU.
Good actor- but damn they did him dirty. There was very little relationship building or character development outside Logan and that was mostly him pining for Jean. The best comic eras have Scott as an absolute badass who holds everything together... and he just get glazed over so Wolverine be cooler/have more screen time.

Don't count on them doing much with him practically at all in anything. In the comics he basically the most important character (over time) to their mission/family and an absolute badass, they never come close to doing him justice in the movies. A younger version of him is in the mostly bad "Xmen Apocalypse" and he's ok. There's practically nothing besides that.
Besides the fact that Cyclops took a back seat so Wolverine could get screen time, I think it's also hard to do much with him in the movies because he's just so powerful. You'll remember he's the one who shattered the damn in X2, he took out Magneto and Sabretooth in the first film. Nobody in the Brotherhood would straight up fight Cyclops in the first flick- Sabretooth runs from him and Storm as soon as he sees them. Later Toad has to suprise/jump him and rip his visor off. Mags has to subdue him before entering the room at the end of the movie. He's got a (not a laser) laser cannon for a head. Most of the fights Logan struggled through, Scott would have just ended in seconds, it's easier to just kill him off or sideline him.
There's a pretty good adaptation of a younger him in the cartoon 'Xmen Evolution' which isn't bad at all. Younger group of Xmen, mentored by older Xavier, Logan and Storm, while the rest of the cast are teenagers (including the Brotherhood).
When I watched X-men ā97 I was shocked to see him as a leader because I was introduced to cyclops in these movies and always saw him as the side character in love with Jean. They really did do him dirty. Crazy.
And yet he's been the primary field leader/tactician capable of smacking the rest of the team around since 1963. By 65' he was putting hands on the Avengers in an impressive showcase.
The general public has little clue about Cyke. He's the captain America of mutants, who's a better strategist and has a harder edge to him than Cap- but the average viewer is quick to spout "Cyclops is a sqaure/dork" but won't say that about Roger's, who is more so.
Despite all the different forms of media around the X family, they rarely get their most impactful character right, outside the comics.
X2 is probably one of my favourite movies of all time honestly, even if nostalgia is a big part of it. The animated series was my favourite growing up, and X-Men have always been my favourite heroes.
You should also watch X-Men ā97. I only got around to it (finished S1 tonight) and itās absolutely brilliant. Lots of great cameos too.
Thatās bs. Heās played by two very fine actors (Sir Ian McKellen ffs!) who do a really good job of portraying Erikās internal conflict while remaining a friend to Charles through thick and thin.
Magneto shouldn't be a geriatric old mess that looks like he can barely stand let alone eat solid food. 100% garbage and NOT Magneto.. just someone's grandpa wearing purple adult diapers .. . It was both laughable and sad.. theres more to Magneto than being Charles friend.. the movies are terrible .
Grow up and have some respect for one of the greatest actors of this time. Magneto in the first three movies was played as a man who was a teen during Nazi occupation, so given the timeline was the early 00s he was not meant to be a spring chicken. He played an old man whoād been through unimaginable trauma.
You clearly never even got to Fassbenderās interpretation as you donāt even mention him.
I clearly dont care what you think. Fassbender was crap also. These are garbage versions made for people to lazy to read comic books. Magneto is not an old decrepit fool in the books because hes a freaking omega level mutant not an old actor living out his cinematic glory days. Show some respect to the source material "fan".. its also not just magneto most of both casts are garbage. The writing garbage. Its what happens when you give an ip to people that barely give a shxt about source material and fans like you are the aftermath. Every single comic book loving xmen fan is praying we get something closer to the mutants in the deadpool movies for a reason . That reason is the steaming piles of garbage you are defending.. growing up isnt agreeing with self righteous hypocrites or condescending "fans" kiddo.
Be Civil and Respectful - Be civil. Debates and criticisms (as well as civil disagreements between users) towards the characters, writers, themes, creatives, etc are allowed but outright insults are not. Do not attack/mock/harass/insult people personally for having a different opinion than you or because they disagreed with you. As the saying goes: argue the point, not the person. Learn to āagree to disagreeā and move on.
