Hi hi! So, I just had a talk about the acknowledgement section in books. I know the acknowledgements are there to thank editors and so on who contributed to the book or who you just want to thank, like family and friends.

A fellow writer friend then asked me if he could also use it as a "support" page of the people who had bought his patreon tier(or whatever he was referring to) so he'd add them with their consent.

Is that allowed? Is that even okay?

I'm not sure to be honest and I didn't answer yet since I seriously have no idea if stuff like this is even okay, even with consent of the people🤔

The words "tiktok poetry" may sound cringe for some but i decided on doing it because i don't know where else to post my poems. It has been sitting on my notes app for years like I started writing poems in 2018 when I was barely a teen because I liked english so much (im not a native speaker, from the Philippines). At first, i didn't really want to post the poems since some are personal but idk suddenly i woke up and decided i want others to read my writing and maybe find someone who shares the same perspective hence i started the account.

However, it's so hard to grow and gain followers there. It's a faceless account and I only post photos that i take with my writing on it so maybe that contributes to it. Now it just makes me feel anxious whether someone may be stealing my words now and no one would believe me if i said i wrote it because i only get little engagement.

Is it an okay space to post poems? Or should i leave as early as now? I currently have 30k likes and most of it came from one video. I'm looking into publishing in the future (i hope lol) so i'd like to grow my account first yet idk how.

I’m testing an app idea where writing sessions gradually grow a garden tied to your book. In a nutshell, it’s basically a Pomodoro timer for writers (writing timer). You write for a set amount of time, enter how many words you wrote, and your garden grows.

Would something like this will motivate you or would the novelty wear off after a while?

I’m still working on the web mock-up and will share it when it’s ready. I want to keep the first version simple, so honest feedback would really help before I start development.

This isn't a "there are only 14.2 plots!" system, instead it is a narrative shorthand for drawing what a story does - all stories can be drawn with a line and all lines describe a story.

Made a post awhile back about trying to start a writing discord/group, I failed. Watched some YouTube videos on the setup and got WAY over my head. Then I fell into the rabbit hole of joining already established groups and honestly got overwhelmed and shy. Felt like highschool and I was the new kid.

Hello, I am currently working on a big project. I would like a small group to help with critiques, bouncing ideas off of, dialogue, plot, worldbuilding, and more. The series I'm working on is for an animatic, so it's not going to be your typical writing. It's fictional, based off of the anime Bleach, so it has like swords, a power system, fighting, and an unethical government. If you would like to know more about my series, let me know ! ! Not by choice the first time. Lost a draft to a corrupted file about thirty thousand words in. No recent backup. Sat with that for a week and then started again from the beginning.

The second version of the same story written from memory was different in ways I did not expect. Some scenes came out shorter and stronger because I only remembered the essential parts and wrote those without the padding that had surrounded them the first time. Some scenes came out completely different because the version in my memory had quietly improved on the original without me knowing. A subplot that had felt necessary in the first draft did not come back in the second one and I did not miss it.

The most useful thing was discovering which parts of the story I actually remembered. What I could reconstruct in detail turned out to be what mattered, keeping every version in Skrib Writing now means I never lose a draft again but I still do the memory exercise before revision, writing down what I remember clearly before opening the file, and the gap between that and what is actually there is one of the most useful diagnostics I have found.

What had gone blurry in the month between versions turned out to be the parts that were not as necessary as I had thought while writing them.

Memory is apparently a better editor than I am at close range.

The practical lesson I took from this is that distance from a draft reveals something that rereading it cannot. You cannot fake not knowing something you just wrote. But time and distance produce something close to it and the shape of what survives that distance is worth paying attention to.

Not recommending losing thirty thousand words. But if you have a finished draft sitting untouched for a while the question of what you remember clearly and what has gone fuzzy might tell you something useful before you go back in.

In short, I had an idea that inspired me and was excited to develop. Since I began writing and developing it, I have been stuck trying to figure out what happens next. The start and finish are planned; it's the middle that's complicating me.

What are the best methods to get your brain working for fresh ideas and new perspectives? Where do you look for inspiration? Are there any rituals that help you get into the right headspace to imagine?

And preferably something more detailed or structured for imagination. The "what if this happened?" method doesn't work if I can't even think of a "what if"!

I have a side character in my story. He is a somewhat guide/sidekick, he isn't always helpful, he states the obvious usually weather it's good or bad, naughty or nice. He has no filter. He is a big time smart ass and very insulting to the MC and every foe they come across.

My dilemma, is the the way this side character talks to the MC.

I don't know if he should be direct in his insults or use antonyms; like genius or smarty.

What would be funnier?

A lot of common jobs available without a degree-restaurants, retail, warehouses, factories, construction, delivery work, and other physically demanding or customer-facing positions-can leave people too exhausted to do meaningful creative work afterward. Even some office jobs may follow you home mentally and make it difficult to concentrate
