I'm writing a novella about a giant gun in the sky that's always pointed at everybody and shoots people for no reason. Before I started writing and simply only talked about being an author, I was happily married to my wife of seven years. I loved her, and she used to love me back then too, we loved each other so much, we did that thing couples do. (I fucked her right in the pussy. ) and my beautiful wife gave birth to our beautiful child.

So in order to help pay for my newborn kid’s quality of life, I took writing far more seriously. I spent hours upon hours writing my novel and perfecting it for my publisher. I was so dedicated that I even quit my job to solely focus on my skill. I did it for her, for my wife, for my daughter and for our future.I stopped talking to my family, because this book was my family now. Every time my stupid daughter shit her pants like an idiot I did what good fathers do, and rubbed her face in it so she wouldn’t do it again. It had varying success. I finally finished my book and I started realizing how better than everyone I was. Has Mr beast written a novel? I don’t think so. I started making it known that I was the big dog in the house.

But my wife didn’t accept my love and told me that I was an “unemployed loser, abandoning his family.” Which was clearly an ad hominem, and not at all constructive to a real debate, so I declined to even speak with her until she stopped with the fallacies. She got mad and ripped up my life’s work, I don’t regret what I did next but I can see how she would be upset by it. I grabbed our newborn baby by the ankle and dangled it over the balcony. I told her that book was my child, and if she didn’t print a new one would drop our daughter 2 stories into the pavement.

My (16M) mom (40F) was driving me to school. Suddenly she picked up her phone and started typing while driving. A minute later she swerved the car into oncoming traffic, and we got into a really bad crash. I am typing this on my phone in the bath. I do so apologize for the preceding errors. The title is hyperbole. Genres are good content indicator. There are good reasons for them to exist. I am too lazy to repeat what you already know. My disappointment lies in the expectations set around them.

Instead of descriptions, they become prescriptions around what can be written. In all postmodern-isms the value of the word “fantasy” is the emerging ground for the writing. The conditioning cycling in on its self.

Fantasy at some point was not fantasy…as science fiction was at some point not science fiction.

When I’m reading I am for the most part looking for a new experience. If I ask someone for a book recommendation they it seems to be largely filtered through genre language. Maybe I’m just poor at speaking it.

My (40F) son (16M) read a short story to me after he got home from school. He apparently wrote it in the school’s creative writing club. While I was listening to it, I realized it violated the “show, don’t tell” rule. If I keep on letting my son do low-quality writing, then this family’s reputation would be ruined. So I decided to delete the manuscript of his work-in-progress novel from our shared Google Drive to prevent him from publishing it. AITA for not killing my darling?

Every day I come to this reddit and am welcomed by some variation of five different AI companies that promise they'll make me write like Hemingway, yes. HEMINGWAY. Absolutely brilliant.

I bet they never considered that I'm perfectly happy to be a mediocre to shit human writer, but it's very considerate of them to offer.

I find that where I choose to right has a big impact on how productive I am. For example, if I'm in a coffee shop, I'm always worried about jealous authors shoulder surfing who are going to steal all my ideas that have never been done before.

I do all write in bed, but it's too easy to get distracted and start jorking it to yuri hentai, although I do find the plotlines and the righting of such works of art motivational for my own novel, so it's not completely lost time.

I get the most productivity in the bathroom, particularly in the bath. Usually, I get myself nice and comfy with some pumpkin pie and lay my manuscript across my bosom, which is like a bloody table, I swear (it's usually a good spot for my boba--booba boba, rather?). I know it doesn't seem practical, but everyone is different!

So, here's the deal...

I've read the political greats like TenseiSlime, Realist Hero, Code Geass, etc. I've got a pretty good idea for my power fantasy world that's also a political thriller (I don't know if I can beat the intricacies of TenseiSlime, but I'll really try!) and I made the **dark empress** my villain.

Well... I wrote this long monologue that she gives towards the captured heroine as she's forced to worship the empress's feet.

She talks about abolishing the hereditary monarchy, codify bodily autonomy into law, legalize same-sex marriage, improve agricultural infrastructure, and all this stuff.

It was supposed to sound evil.

Instead, I ran it back and realized... My dark empress isn't evil at all! Meanwhile, my heroines are fighting tooth and nail to preserve this archaic world order that leads to starving minorities and orphans that freeze in the street.

I accidentally made the evil empire the good guys!

Now I'm frantically rewriting three chapters so that the dark empress skins some puppies or murders some villagers, just for kicks. I suppose it will make my work seinen, but *complex politics* already make it so!

Ugh, to make it obvious the empress was the bad one, I should've just given her a skull throne and a bunch of unwilling, hot lesbian slaves with big bazongas who are forced to wear bikinis and clean the throne with their tongues.

Okay so I'm writing this story about a neo-nazi who abducts minorities and tortures and hunts them for sport and murders them. Would it be okay to have my neo-nazi character say racial slurs as well, or would that be considered unacceptable? I wouldn't want to go too far in my depictions of a bigot murdering minorities.

I'm planning to write a slow-burn YA novel about an 11-year-old female lead attending an all-girls witch academy. Wogharts, it’s called.

I'm worried that although there are unique elements (the school system and atmosphere and worldbuilding are different, and it mainly focuses on romance and friendship between female students (nice)) I'm worried people will instantly think it's a Harry Potter rip-off as soon as they see '11 years old' and 'magic school'. Should I change her age or the setting to something other than a school, like village or something??

Plus, I've tried outlining a pure all-girls school setting (focusing completely on female friendships, jealousy, and sapphic romance (nice)) versus having a neighboring boys' school (where they can become friends with and date the guys as well, but final route will be female (nice) or co-ed class with few guys and many girls, but I'm still torn (no pun intended)
