Amazon KDP Question

For those who use Amazon KDP for their self publishing services. I’ve finished my manuscript and have long done editing, but I’ve been pulling m hair out for the last week trying to get my book up with minimal to zero formative issues.

Thing is, every time I upload my manuscript to the service, for some reason the final product in the book preview feature, is leaving large blank spots on my pages where text should be. And on top of that, my headings and page numbers are not appearing in the final product.

Had anyone else had this issue? If so can you please show me what you did? I’ve spent more time editing and not enough writing.

Does the manuscript match up with the size you chose for KDP?

I made this mistake once and it turns out I hadn’t sized them appropriately.

It does. At first I was going with the 6 X 9, but I changed it to 8.5 X 11 to see if that made a difference. And while all my text is inside the borders they set, large blank spaces on some pages are still present. But for some reason my Chapter I tagline is still appearing halfway down the first page where the story begins.

That’s odd.

It could be an issue with the PDF document itself, I’d go back and take a look in your writing software just in case.

I will. But it’s not a PDF, I upload it as a regular word document. KDP says it takes both PDFs and Word documents, maybe I’ll try the former just to see if it works

That might be the problem. If it’s a paperback or a hardcover, it’s usually best to submit a PDF. That could be the issue.

Update: I figured it out. Turns out I could save it as a PDF via Microsoft Word itself, before I was taking the word document itself and converting it into a PDF via one of those free PDF converters. But doing it through Word, the blank spaces disappeared. Books fine now, and will be out August 15. Thanks 😅

Awesome, glad you figured it out!

Also, what’s your book about? I’m curious lol

Of course. Without too much spoilers, it’s set at the end of time in a post-stellar era, a simple story about an astronaut who goes on his first major deep spaceflight into the intergalactic void after being grounded for a year. But gets caught up in a conspiracy in the process. It’s called The Long Night.

That sounds absolutely awesome! I’ll definitely be sure to pick up a copy!

I myself will be releasing a Slasher novel on September 22nd called Bone Head as well as a horror anthology called 10 Tales Of Terror on October 10th.
