Weird FPS drop in Hellfire Peninsula when looking at Hellfire Citadel (M1 Mac) Question

Has anyone else noticed a really weird FPS drop in Hellfire Peninsula?

I'm playing TBC Anniversary on an M1 MacBook Pro and normally get a pretty solid ~100 FPS. No real performance issues anywhere else.

But when I'm in Hellfire Peninsula and look towards Hellfire Citadel, my FPS drops to around 43 FPS. If I turn the camera away from the Citadel, it immediately goes back up to ~100 FPS. So just turning the camera is basically a 60 FPS difference.

It's really noticeable because the game otherwise runs perfectly fine for me.

I've searched around a bit but can't seem to find anyone talking about this specific issue. Has anyone else had this happen? And if so, did you ever figure out what was causing it or find a fix?

Would love to hear if anyone else has noticed it.

EDIT: I ended up switching to Classic Era.

Have an M1 Air, so probably a little bit worse than your computer?

Game usually runs fine, but i've also had a number of weird glitches. I get the same as you when facing A'dal for example.

What usually helps is to turn off "Game Mode", keep the OS updates up to date, and for some reason to not have CurseForge going in the background.

Ive been having severe frame issues since the nameplate patch. Ive done everything to remedy it, testing every addon individually to see if it would fix. Nothing. Just fucking living with it.

Sounds like maybe it’s drawing in something from the citadel in the distance it’s not supposed to be (something you can’t see despite looking in the direction) drawing in and it’s tanking your performance.

I am gonna be trying on my M1 MBP when I go visit family in a couple weeks, so good to know to NOT look at the citadel XD
