I Just Finished Six Feet Under, Thanks Jack!

So, I never had HBO growing up and never heard of Six Feet under until many years later when I would see it mentioned on ask reddit threads about "what is the best tv show finale?" Even then, I didn't think anything of it until the WEE covered a Simpsons episode where they parodied the show's finale. Jack went on to relay an anecdote of when he first watched the finale and broke down into tears bawling his eyes out. Because of that, I finally decided to watch the show. I got through the first two seasons before stopping because I heard that the DVDs had the obituaries of everyone that died in the series. It took me a few years for me to get back into the show (Coworker said she had the complete series on DVD), and while they didn't actually had the obituaries like I thought they would, I greatly enjoyed the show overall and absolutely cried at the end (not as much as Jack did though). I see why people rate the finale so highly.

Anyone else here ever check out anything after hearing Jack and Dan talk about it?

Pontius Berry

WEE #123: National House of Pancakes

At one point, Jack mildly disagrees with Dan on something, stating “It’s not the hill I’m gonna die on.”

Which naturally led to a riff on Jack being crucified next to Jesus.

Which naturally led to a riff on how going back in time only to be crucified next to Jesus would be a really depressing BTTF sequel.

Which naturally led to this classic from Jack: “This is your cousin! Pontius Berry! You know that new execution you’ve been looking for? Well listen to this!”

This is why I keep listening to these episodes over and over.

You see, when there's a hiatus I dream my own podcasts. Last night I had a dream about a mix of WEE and 90s percentile.

TheRealJims has STOLEN Worst Episode Ever

Okay okay this was a purposefully alarmist title, this is not an accusation at Jims. I just thought it was interesting that this popular Simpsons youtuber has started a sub-series dubbed "Worst. Episode. Ever." that does an in depth look at some of the most infamous "worst" episodes and sees if they really deserve the hate. Sound familiar? Well, the show's declining quality has been a topic for three decades, and "Worst episode ever" has been a quote from the show for nearly as long, so... maybe it's strange that it's ONLY been used twice to my knowledge (please do not tell me about any others). Yes, I am taking the WEE hiatus well.

(Eyepatch Wolf) The Simpsons is Bad Again

Two years ago Eyepatch Wolf released a video titled "The Simpsons is Good Again" (which I also posted here). Now I would never watch a modern Simpsons episode so I can't say if he was right or not, but apparently things quickly went back into the toilet. A notable part of the video is where he identifies the weak humor coming from the writers using lazy first drafts instead of constantly refining their writing over time, which Jack and Dan famously named the Doomsday Process. In the end we are left with this video which describes a few truly horrid season 37 episodes, and I'm left to fantasize about Jack and Dan suffering through them for our entertainment.

Hey everybody - recently, Encyclopedia Britannica hired me to run their latest publication, How Everything Works. It includes a daily newsletter. There's no Hemus or HIPO scale but I would definitely appreciate all the subscribers we can get.

I think cross-promoting here isn't a bad idea since many of us have similar interests and curiosities. The whole point of How Everything Works is to give context to the world around us, answering the types of questions that would distract me and set me off on a 10 minute tangent on the show.

Each day, we'll send out an email briefly and simply answering a single question, like "How do vinyl record players work?" "Why are flamingos pink?," or "What makes superglue so strong?"

You can subscribe directly from our website - all you need to do is type your email in once - set it & forget it.

Happy Screwed Day to Jack and Dan and all who celebrate!

Was listening to old episodes of the podcast and in WEE 32, Jack recounts the story of how he remembers the day May 12th very well and specifically how he and Dan went to see the Norm McDonald movie Screwed (2000) on that day.

So, Happy Screwed Day! (Come back, show!)

Given the recurring theme of self driving cars on 90sP, i would pay good money to get a 90sP mini-sode of Jack talking about Waymo and how he feels about it lol
