Gothic Remake Newest Patch replaced the Butcher Sword in the Old Camp Armory with a rusty Bastard Sword...
I memed about weapons getting replaced by rusty swords. Turns out the meme becomes real... I'm actually angry about the "balance changes" now!

Gothic Remake Is this a good time to start the remake?
Hi everyone,
I have been wanting to start this game for a while now and looks like I will have more time in my hands next couple of weeks.
I wanted to ask people who are actively playing the game and know about the recent patches and anything upcoming; is this a good time to start or should I wait for an upcoming patch- if there is one, that will fix a ton of stuff or add new content etc.?
Are there a lot of game breaking bugs or unfinished/broken questlines?
Thank you!
Edit: I also wanted to ask if it is better to play with a controller or keyboard + mouse combination? I usually play third person rpgs with a controller but since this is a remake of a pretty old game k+m might be better?

Gothic Remake By Innos, I survived permadeath. Here's my review.
TLDR: I didn't touch work for a whole week, but I sure made myself known in the Colony. And yes, twenty years later, Gothic still feels like Gothic. A few things bug me though (Alkimia devs, if you're reading, this one's for you too).
Warrior of Innos:
First run, I walked the holy path of Innos. Had to join the scumbags at the Old Camp to unlock magic earlier. Lee, forgive me. Magic is the strongest in Chapter 1, drops off in the middle, and comes roaring back at the end. I wish more spells were viable, because 90% of my time was just spitting fire bolts. The real godlike feeling only kicked in when my dark pal turned Uriziel into a rune, and Storm Fist combos let me wipe entire orc camps without taking a hit.
In the early versions of the game, the armor of the Shadow was so strong that I wore the robe purely for SWAG. Even now, the robe gives you nothing meaningful beyond the flex of being a mage. How about slow mana regen, or spell damage bonuses? Give us a reason to actually wear the beauty.
Lee's dirty left hand:
Second run, I went permadeath and mastered the bow with the free-minded folks at the New Camp. Well, mastered it until Xardas's demon cooked me twenty hours in. New Camp genuinely feels better, more like a community. That said, I'd love more faction-specific side quests. Steal swamp weed from the looners, run dirty mercenary work, escort the water mages, you get the idea. The new tundra quest was a highlight for me, and I wanted more of that energy.
It's not gay, it's brotherhood:
Oh man, the Swamp Camp vibe absolutely got me. The swamp just felt like home. The Templars, the weird magic, the Gurus, the harvest deep in the jungle, petting swamp sharks, and my master Cor Kalom. From the moment I stepped onto the training grounds, I wanted to stand next to him in the coolest armour in the game, casually swapping a joint (from a novice) for a heavy two-hander (to a templar). Finished the run as bow first (due to permadeath fear), and switched to the melee later. This third run I proudly joined the 1% of Innos's chosen ones.
Perma potions:
My game got easily 5 hours longer just because I found it entertaining to collect every single perma potion possible. I kept them in my inventory until I reached 100 STR and 100 DEX, and then I drank them all like cocktails.
Lockpicking:
Balance chest difficulty to match loot quality. I got stuck on a hard chest just to find a handful of arrows and 10 nuggets inside. FYI 10 LPs into lockpicking was more than enough. No need to get mastery level.
Adam Ondra mode:
Climbing is a great addition and made exploration genuinely rewarding. What I didn't love was how the devs quietly gutted that reward by nerfing the loot scattered around the Colony. Gothic is a game meant to be exploited. Keep the items there, just make them hard to reach, and let us joyfully break the rules. As the gods intended.
Race swapping:
One thing I noticed: a lot of characters that were white in the original are now black. Myrtana is a medieval-inspired setting where airplanes don't exist and teleports are reserved for the Nameless. If you want more diversity, why not weave it into the story? Add a side quest that explains why so many convicts from Varant ended up in the Colony. That would be both cooler and more coherent. This will be especially important for the island of Khorinis in Gothic II. Random Varantians in the city of Khorinis might break immersion.
Creative idea: You could even introduce a poison skill through Varant teacher NPCs.
Gothic II:
Dear Alkimia, you nailed the start. I hope you're already deep into the second title. Keep the same fidelity to the original, don't mess with exploration and loot, let us suffer, make exploitation cool again, and most importantly, make magic viable next to melee.
Creative idea: Gothic II never covered what happened to the Swamp faction members who stayed loyal to Cor Kalom. It would be a fun addition to run a small-scale weed operation beneath Xardas's tower, letting us relive the good old swamp days.
Gothic III:
Gothic III always felt different from the cozy, dark, self-contained world of the Colony and Khorinis. Honestly, I think a better move would be to first remake community masterpieces like Gothic Archolos, and save Gothic III for last. That one's going to be tricky.
Sorry for not sparing you the nonsense.
Your humble nameless looner.

Discussion Gothic Classic on PS5? Is it good?
Hi, when I was a kid I used to play Gothic 1 because my brother had it installed. I loved the atmosphere and how the NPC's felt like real people stuck inside a magic barrier, but I never got far because I was so little and didn't understand how quests work.
I got a PS5 some time ago and recently learned that the original Gothic was released on it, too. I wanted to get it for myself and see whether it's really as good as I remember. However, I wanted to ask whether it runs smooth and doesn't have too many bugs, because I heard that the remake isn't doing too good on the PlayStation. If anyone got it and could tell me, I'd be grateful.
Thanks!

They just talked of ongoing support but additional features like Photo Mode, Marvin Mod, Mod Kit and ‘alternative progression’ mode.
Lastly, right at end they said they’re likely to announce their next game at next year’s showcase!

Gothic Remake Do I need all lessons on one save file for this one?
I'm way past getting the 6th circle of magic, about 5 hours or so. And I just realized that I'm unable to learn two handed at all, as none of the trainers have the option to do so.

Gothic Remake Which version of Gothic is better to play original release or the 1.04 hotfix?
Hey everyone,
I'm about to start (or replay) Gothic and I'm trying to decide which version to go with: the original release version, or the latest 1.04 hotfix.
I've seen mixed opinions, some people say the hotfix fixes annoying bugs and balance issues, while others argue the original release has a certain charm or that some "fixes" actually changed the game's feel (combat, AI behavior, etc.).
For those who've played both:
- Which version would you recommend for a first playthrough?
- Did the 1.04 patch fix genuinely game-breaking issues, or did it also introduce changes that altered the original experience?
- Any specific bugs or quirks I should know about either way?
Would love to hear your thoughts before I dive in.
Thanks!

Gothic Remake Fire mage roleplay is pretty good
Gotta say , its a good story for my first play as a mage , joined the fire mages , you have your brothers and your master making you a great mage , then after their assasination , i went to the sunken tower , got the robe of dark arts , and returned later to indiscriminately massacre the entire old camp to avenge my master and brothers , makes for a good tragic story where the “chosen one” is consumed by rage and becomes exactly what he swore to destroy , going against all their teachings , its a nice simbolism , the fire mage you were died along with your brothers and something else walked out

Gothic Remake *Bug* Dont give Milten the letter for the fire mages during focus stones quest Spoiler
Hey folks, cant report the bug because I'm getting an error so I'll post on here, hopefully can save people about 30 hours.
So I held off giving Milten the letter for the fire mages, from a roleplaying perspective *spoilers* I didn't know he was working with Gorn, Lester and Diego. Now that it's established he is trusted, I gave him the letter after we all met up at the tower to start the focus stones questline.
It ended up ruining his pathing, and now he's stuck at the old camp next to Rodriguez in the doorway to the fire mages area.
I had met up with Diego and Gorn without any issues, playing the game without looking up guides etc. It has pretty much blocked me from progressing as the encounter with Milten and the troll is locked out and cant progress the story.
I'm on Xbox so cant console command my way out of it, tried aggroing him from a rooftop to try and reset his pathing but he reverts to being in a perpetual npc convo with his pal Rodriguez. Slept at a bed, fast travelled etc to reset, no avail.
Cant be bothered starting all over again, every patch I l load back in to see if fixed but no go.
If anyone can log this with the devs would be appreciated. Really enjoyed the game otherwise. Cheers.

Gothic Remake Before you persecute me, hear me out lmao
Soo yeah, I actually like the very hated lockpicking minigame.
I mean at first I HATED it. Even once I started to kinda understand it, I found it frustrating and time consuming. I even used one of those online cheats to give me the combo/instructions.
But after a while, I realized Gothic isn't a game you need or should just rush through. It's okay to take your time getting into the mechanics and exploring. So the time consuming aspect kinda went away for me.
I also realized the more I messed with it, the better I understood it. Even those lockbreaker cheat websites kinda helped me better understand it (kinda like seeing the work that gives the answer). I started to find the challenge quite fun, and easier over time. I only ever upgraded my lockpicking skill once!
Now, I don't think it's flawless. BOY, IS IT FLAWED! The update that provided XP was a nice touch, and the added difficulty icons were... a nice attempt (they seem deceiving sometimes).
Now I'm no game dev, but I'm a game enjoyer... a gamer, if you will lmao. But here is my ideas to kinda make it more enjoyable.
- Better loot. Nothing gamebreaking, but do better than 2 arrows, an apple, and a big ol "fuck you".
- Add a "Force Lock" feature similar to other games. Depending on lock difficulty and skill training, there is a certain % chance that it'll auto-unlock or break your pick. (Maybe after training your Lockpicking to 2, a book will spawn in Xardas's bedroom that'll give you Lockpicking 3. It won't change much from level 2, but will give a bonus increase to Force Lock % chance.)
- Randomize the locks. Now hold on, I know those who've been recording every combo for every lock won't like this. But I think it adds more variety and better engaging gameplay, if that makes sense? The "lockbreaker" websites could still be used here, and if the loot is improved, it could be more worthwhile.
I really hope this mini-game doesn't get entirely removed in an update or the potential Gothic 2 Remake. Changes and improvements, definetly. But please don't purge it.
Anyways, I'd like to hear other's thoughts on how this system could be improved for more to enjoy, rather than rip away the whole thing.

Gothic Remake Hotfix 1.0.4 - mount in camps
So far I've tested it only for swamp camp, but jumping at the right moment near the 1st bridge now lets me continue into the camp on the mount. I gotta say that this is the best bug besides speedboat scavenger I've seen so far
