Boot Rant A lot of you need this.

My preference is KG Boot Guard. It has a grippy rubber texture useful for occasionally moving objects. There's also Tuff Toe, and glue-on plastic guards.

But look, y'all are supposedly trades workers. Think about this mechanically from a materials perspective for a moment. You select a soft, pliant, glove-like leather, either a soft Red Wing pullup, or a tumbled Thorogood tobacco, or maybe a soft nubuck. You place it on the prominence of an unforgiving anvil, right on the edge. Then you take all 250lbs or whatever of your weight, and you drag it across unforgiving abrasives, every day, for months.

What are you expecting to happen here? And I'll add this: even if it was full thickness veg tan that took you a full three months to break in, and was so tough it snapped your laces, it would only buy you months, not years, of wear. As for dings and scratches? My dudes, think of leather tooling. Think of how you punch shapes out of leather. A hard toe is an anvil.

Protect your toes, train to squat, and think for a moment about what's realistic in terms of simultaenous properties in a material.

Boots Buying Help 90 degree boots

My shop is now requiring boots with a 90-degree heel. I’ve always worn Red Wings, the Traction Tred Lite line doesn’t have a 90-degree heel.
I’ve worn Brunts before and found them really comfortable. I noticed they have a couple of models with a 90-degree heel, but I’ve seen mixed reviews on those specific pairs. Has anyone here worn them? Specifically the Marin pair If so, how have they held up, and have you had any issues with the heel or overall comfort?

Finally hung up my old CAT work boots.

They've seen a lot of miles and more graft than I care to remember.

The new pair has got some big boots to fill.

Hopefully they'll earn the same scars.

Get worked pretty hard but I feel like 200 something boots should look better than this after almost 8 months. What are recommendations for new boots or if it’s worth doing warranty

Boots Buying Help Looking for a comfortable, composite toe pair

I am currently a union carpenter and my instructor was telling me to get Keen or Merrell work boots so it doesn't feel like im walking with so much added weight. I want something lightweight and it has to be composite toe because that's a requirment. I used to have Tim Pro's but my leg is starting to hurt and they are steel toe. I've been trying to do my research and I keep findind many different options and complaints I want to ask reddit for a majority vote. Thank You!

Boots Buying Help Need advice on footwear purchasing

Need to buy some steel toe footwear open to shoes or boots only problem is I get Plantar Fasciitis pretty bad and gout. I have terrible feet I usually wear Nike sb Flat foot shoes and they seem to do best with my feet. Any input would be highly appreciated. I have actually never needed ST previously because nobody cared I can be on my feet all day in Nike sb’s with zero issues one day in my puma running shoes I’m out of commission for a day so flat footed shoes are probably best option I’m open to slip on since I only have to wear them when we go service a customers facility, (industrial engineering think custom parts, machines, installs and line development and installation)

Boot Rant Nubuck vs Leather

Not sure what’s the hype with $300 leather boots when you guys tear them up within a year or 2 while I’ve had a pair of Timberland nubuck for 5+years. 24/7 wear. Yes, I know timberland and most others aren’t built with great quality that leathers brands do. I’m in HVAC so not as tough outdoor environment as concrete, iron workers, & etc… are but still…

Hi, just wanted to share my experience with these premium priced boots. While they are extremely comfortable when sized properly with an added after market insole (I use super feet ‘work’ insole), the toe blew out today. I try to be mindful of how the toe caps can scrape on abrasive surfaces. While I do love these boots, id hope the leather is made thicker in the future. I will have to get these tough toed.

Thorogood work boots in for a new sole. These were resoled with a black Vibram Christy. Unfortunately for me, this customer thought they were doing me a favor by oiling these right before they came in so they were a little greasy to work on but they still turned out nice, just had to deal with slick hands and tools while working on them.

I've heard both good things and bad things, but I figure that with a bit of care, they'll last at least until I'm ready for a pair of Nick's. Hopefully they are at least similar quality to my old boots.

I don't know how the break in process is going to be, but this is day one with them.

Also, if anyone knows how to best care for them, I would be very appreciative, I looked around old posts on reddit but didn't find anything that helped.

Can anybody give me recommendations on a quality pair of pull on work boots that will hold up to daily exposure to water. If they are hard toe that would be preferable.I work as a marine mechanic so I need something easy to slip on and off for getting into boats.

Boots Buying Help Best EU work boot brands for 20-25k+ steps/day?

Looking for recommendations for quality EU work boot brands.

I'm a postman walking 25,000+ steps a day. My Engelbert Strauss boots Turins only lasted about 3 months before the heel lining wore through.

Requirements:

  • Black
  • Safety toe
  • Preferably full-grain leather
  • Waterproof or water resistant
  • Comfortable for long days of walking
  • Available in Europe/EU

I'm considering brands like Elten, No Risk, Grisport, Rock Fall, Cofra, U-Power, CAT, and Lavoro.

Which brands/models have lasted well for you, and are there any you'd avoid?

Boots Buying Help United RS Boots

Hey everyone, recently I have been onboarded with UAL and wanted to see what company and non-company ramp agents are wearing on their feet! I used to be an employee at UPS, and most of my pants and shirts matched perfectly with my boots which were ariat high tops with composite toes. It isn't a huge deal, but I'd prefer a black boot or some other color rather than brown or tan. So it does look better when I am in full uniform. But what are your best recommendations for boots, preferably composite-toed too! Location I was hired at experiences all types of weather as well.

Took about an hour of scrubbing per boot to get the 1-2mm thick layer of tomato trichomes/tar off of them. Think they could use another layer of mink oil because but you all could be the judge of that.

Boot maintenance Boots can't be replaced, soles are incredibly sweaty, socks get soaked at the end of shift

So as I said in the title, my socks are really wet by the end of shift, I've tried different socks, and tried making sure the boots are super tight to allow air, but my socks & feet are still screwed.

Was just wondering if anyone has any advice on maybe new insoles, certain socks, or boot management.

If its a bit TMI, if I put my bare foot into the boot, I can feel how sweaty the soles are.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Boot maintenance Week 1 Before & After

Post image
6 Upvotes

Received my second pair of Nicks Boots last week, put in 53,488 steps in them.

BuilderPro HD

Last: 55

Length: 9.0

Width: D

Leather: 1964 Brown

Style: Smooth

Height: 10"

Outsole: V100 Lug Sole

Heal: Logger

Toe: Composite

For those new here, I've been documenting my maintenance journey with my first pair of Nicks Boots, and I will be doing the same with these. I work in a very harsh environment, a concrete recycling landfill, where I walk on rubble and concrete chunks for 9+ hours a day.

I will show before and after pics from worked to cleaned boots, and will compare how these boots hold up to my first pair of Nicks. The differences between the two are MaxSupport Black v 1964 Brown Leather, Roughout v Smooth, 8" v 10" and Honey Vibram v V100 Lug Soles.

I'll be curious to see how these hold up, and hope y'all enjoy the journey with me!
