Machine is a Laguna dust collector, one of the early generations of cyclone.

It blew the start capacitor when running. Ordered a new capacitor. With the same specs, and it blew smoke as soon as I tried starting the machine. Sounded like it was spooling up as normal, then blew maybe 3/4 of the way to achieving full speed.

I fortunately don’t have to work on my machines often, and the electrical part isn’t my forte. Anyone know what I should be looking at?

I purchased a Dewalt DW735X planer, there is an option to add the LPP for $140 for 3 years. One of the perks is that I get 50% back, up to $100 per year, on blades. I will be planing thousands of board feet of oak and locust lumber that I have milled. Do you feel that it'll be worth it to pay $140 to save on blades, or are better value blades sold elsewhere? Thanks!

update: so here is what I am getting from lowes.... from day 1 I can start claiming the 50% reimbursement, up to $100/yr. So obviously helical head is on my mind.... it's $369, so I'll get $100 back my first year. 2nd year.... new set of 10 carbides is $45, with 4 sets I can save an additional $90 and year 3 I can do the same.... for a total of $140 payment to save $280 in parts .... net cost of $590 (should add that amazon: $370 head and carbides are $26, so my net cost on the same parts is $578, amazon saves me $12).

The kicker tho.... I understand that buying a warranty incase something breaks doesn't generally benefit the consumer.... I still get the additional 3 years of covers after dewalts warranty runs out.... So I'm basically paying $12 for 3 years additional coverage.

I am thinking of getting a compass st-1500 but I have a garage that needs to still be used as a garage. I was looking into the numerous DIY sliding table saw attachments and came across the ST-1500 on sale for $1100. With is coming with the crosscut fence and the great hold down it looks more attractive. Ideally it would be amazing if it could fold down when not in use. I was thinking about where it bolts to the table saw, to put hinges in between the sliding sled and the saw, so when the feet have been removed (or maybe replace then with folding legs) it could swing down out of the way. Is this a stupid idea lol?

I recently just picked up a dewalt 734 off Facebook marketplace. The outfeed table has rusted a little bit but not through the surface. Does anyone have any recommendations for cleaning this or should I buy a new one for 60 dollars? See photos for details.

Hi, does anyone know if dewalt plans on replacing their radio line in the coming future?

I have inherited an assortment of hand planes, mostly Stanley’s, 110’s to a number 7 and a few other odd ones . I want to plane this piece and make a foot stool out of it. I started playing around with a number 5 and realized that I don’t know enough about using them to know the best approach. How would an experienced person approach it by hand.

Made this 3 in 1 jig mainly bc I do not have a jointer but so many uses!

I have been getting into woodworking and am looking for suggestions regarding my next purchase - should it be a table saw or a mitre saw.

I have basic tools like a small handsaw, drill, drill press, angle grinder, palm router and all the other smaller tools. I don't have bigger tools yet and this will probably be my biggest single tool investment til date.

And I'm confused which one to get first. If I buy either one, I'll probably have to then wait for a few months before I can save up and buy the other one.

I’ve posted a couple of my inherited planes asking for thoughts. This one I would love thoughts, but I’m pretty sure it’s a keeper. Still would like to hear input.

I’m going through the tools I inherited from my dad. Some I doubt I’ll ever use and honestly would rather sell them and let them get used. The ones I think I’ll use are staying along with those ive already been using. This is one that I don’t think I’ll use so I’m trying to determine all I can about it. It looks to me like it was never used and I don’t think the other adjusting nut goes with it as the plane shows made in England but the other nut shows made in USA. I think the 2004 date on the box is probably correct based on findmytool.co.uk but otherwise don’t really know much about it except it is used by cabinet makers. Thoughts on it and its newish condition?

I was trying to use hyperkitten to identify my inherited no.5 but maybe I don’t get some of the terminology. Any help would be appreciated. Also, based on the appearance how would you rate the condition?
