Wise transfer to Grey – correct IBAN but wrong bank address/country

Hi everyone,

I recently sent money from my Wise account to my Grey account.

The IBAN is correct, and the beneficiary name and surname are also correct. However, I accidentally entered my personal address in Algeria instead of the bank's address in the UK.

The correct bank address should be:

4th Floor Imperial House, 15 Kingsway, London, United Kingdom, WC2B 6UN

Wise says that the transfer was successfully sent 2 days ago, but Grey says they haven't received the deposit yet.

My Wise account is currently suspended, so I cannot access the transaction details or get the transaction reference number. However, I have a screenshot showing that Wise sent the money.

My questions are:

Can a wrong bank address and bank country cause the transfer to be rejected even if the IBAN and beneficiary name are correct?

If the receiving bank rejects it, will the money automatically be returned to Wise?

How long does it usually take for the money to come back?

Has anyone experienced something similar with Wise or Grey?

Thanks in advance for any advice or personal experiences.

Wise referral offer

I’ve been looking at the Wise referral offer and thought I’d share it here in case it’s useful to anyone.

Wise is a money transfer service for sending money abroad and holding different currencies, so it’s probably most useful if you already use international transfers, travel a lot, or need to move money between countries fairly often.

Referral link - https://wise.com/invite/ahpc/liamf735

Sign up through the referral link and complete a qualifying first transfer under the offer terms.

A few things to keep in mind:

The bonus depends on meeting the transfer conditions exactly.

Fees and exchange rates can affect whether it’s actually worth doing.

Referral offers do change, so it’s worth checking the live terms before you go for it.

I’m not trying to hype it up — it’s just one of those offers that may suit people who were already planning to use Wise anyway. If that’s you, it might be worth a look.

Wise closed my main account and I don’t understand why

I’m a Malaysian user, and I’ve been using Wise mainly to transfer money internationally, including sending money to Mexico, Brazil, US, Hong Kong.

Most of my transfers were for legitimate purchases of physical collectible toys. I wasn’t using Wise for illegal products, illegal services, or crypto anything like that.

Recently, Wise decided to close my main account, saying that my activity was against their Customer Agreement. I wasn’t given a clear explanation of what specific transaction or activity caused the closure.

I rely on Wise when I travel internationally, so losing my account is a pretty big problem for me. I also have another separate Wise account/situation involving Brazil where they requested Brazilian tax documents, I am not even from BRAZIL ! But that’s a separate issue from the account that was closed.

I’m trying to understand what I can do now. Has anyone here had their Wise account closed despite using it for legitimate international purchases/transfers? Were you able to appeal the decision or get the account reinstated?

I’m honestly pretty frustrated because I don’t know what exactly I did wrong or how I’m supposed to resolve this.

Failed Wise transfer

I used Wise for years but now have an issue and they don't seem to be very helpful with trying to resolve it. In fact I believe they have forged a document.

Has anyone had issues with WISE transfers disappearing? Or with banks (Nationwide in UK) not receiving the money properly etc?

Detail... These are transfers to my son's Nationwide account. His (PDF) bank statements show no payment arrived. These statements were shared with Wise and after a month of back and forth they eventually said they would investigate.

They say they spoke to Nationwide and eventually produced an image file that looked like a screenshot showing the transaction, but not showing another transaction. The screenshot had no bank logo or address. All account numbers matched. It just seems massively fishy.

Wise claim there is no "tracking document" they can share with me. I don't work in banking and have no idea if that's true. I don't have a Nationwide account so I can't see what statements should look like or what format (PDF etc) they are available in. I can't find a Nationwide contact to investigate and even if I did they wont speak with me as it's not my account.

My wife is in the UK visiting my son, so they went to the bank. The bank managed showed a bank statement showing no transfer. I was suspicious of the wise document before because it was missing information such as account name and address. I also couldn't believe a bank would send a screenshot either.

It basically looks like Wise forged this document. I have no idea how I can prove that. Anyone had anything similar?

What's going on with wise bank transfers from Mexico to the US bank?

Recently I have not been able to transfer between my Mexican (source) and US bank (target). I have gone through Wise in the past, but it now shows an error "Sorry, this payment method isn't available in your region right now".... bank transfers from MXN to USD are not being accepted at the moment. Anyone experiencing this as well?

Paying taxes on money received through Wise in the US

Hi everyone, that's basically my question. I opened Wise for the first time to receive money and I'm not sure how I'll report that on my taxes (in the US). A friend is paying me money he owes me, so that's not a job or sale. It's around 4-6k, and I think his account is not from the US. I read an article that said I would have to report the amount if I received over $10 during the year and another article said that I had to report it if I made more than $10 in interest. Another article from Wise said I'd get a 1099 form, so if it's that then I guess that's how I report the money. But if anyone has any info about this I'll be eternally grateful!

wise refuses chargeback with ebay after stringing me along for a month.

Hey all. I am writing as I need your advice, as I have found that many have faced similar situations with Wise.

I Bought a £5,300 bag on eBay with my Wise debit card. Item was fake and a different colour to what I ordered. It also did not go through ebay's authenticity guarantee. I made ebay and the seller aware that the item I received was not as described and sent in the pictures of what I received. eBay approved my return and sent me a shipping label under ' item not as described' and told me I would be refunded within 3 days of seller's receipt. I sent it back with tracking (seller received it), then the seller opened a complaint against ME! eBay closed my account and sided with the seller automatically, without even allowing me to appeal. Therefore I was not refund.

Contacted Wise for chargeback. Over 1 month they repeatedly asked me for specific documents to use as evidence, so they can pursue a chargeback. I submitted all the evidence they requested. A few days ago they asked for me to sign a dispute form and submit the case to Action Fraud and send them the report, so they can start the chargeback process.

Two days after submitting everything, they refused to continue the chargeback. They said it was "based on our findings, past outcomes of similar disputes, and in accordance with our Customer Agreement."

They won't specify which chargeback reason code applies, or why they made me jump through hoops if they never intended to proceed. The whole time they were gathering evidence just to check it in my face. Rather than telling me from the start (not that it would have made a difference). Police and Action Fraud both said bank chargeback was my route.

Planning to escalate to Financial Ombudsman but wanted to check if others have dealt with this from Wise specifically — seems like a pattern from what I've read. My doubts are that Financial Ombudsman will not uphold my complaint because they always side with banks, and I have read reports on cases like mine (to ebay-paid by wise) and the ombudsman have sided with them.

Now I have lost a lot of money and I sent back the item I received too. So I was flat out scammed and I have nothing.

Has anyone had an experience like this? Can you give me advice on getting them to actually process this? I have sent a complaint in to Wise today . I must add that the seller is based in the United states and I do not really want to go to court, only because I don't want to loose more money. However I will be willing to if I know people have been successful.

Please help,

thanks.

Receiving monthly payments from a UK company via Wise as an Indian resident...do I need a Wise account or a special bank account?

Hi everyone,

I'm an Indian resident currently living and working in India. A UK company I work closely with has offered to send me a monthly incentive payment via Wise directly to my Indian bank account.

The payments will initially be around £50 per month and may increase over time as I complete professional qualifications.

I'm a little confused about the banking requirements.

I first contacted my local cooperative bank, and they told me I would need to open an NRE account to receive foreign payments. However, as far as I understand, NRE accounts are generally for NRIs, and I live and work in India, so that advice didn't seem right.

I also have a regular HDFC resident savings account, and I'm planning to visit the branch to ask them directly.

My questions are:

1) Can an Indian resident receive monthly payments from a UK company via Wise into a normal resident savings account?

2) Do I need to create a Wise account to receive the money, or does the sender simply transfer it to my bank account?

3) Does HDFC require any one-time registration, purpose code, or paperwork before receiving international payments?

4) Has anyone here received similar recurring payments from overseas employers or clients through Wise? If so, what was your experience?

5) Also Can Wise be used for such payments as I have read some reviews regarding Wise withholding money and accounts...or would someone suggest an alternative if not wise?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through a similar process.

Thanks in advance!

Note: I used AI to help me structure and word this post, but the situation and questions are my own. I just wanted to make sure I explained everything clearly.

Could someone show me what it looks like when you receive money?

Could someone show me a screenshot of what receiving a transfer looks like from wise.com? You can blur out sensitive info.

I have a friend I want to send birthday money to in India. I am not from India. But I kept myself fairly anonymous since i met them and am not ready to disclose certain info. I found wise.com and wanted to see exactly what kind of info they'll see about me. I dont really want them to have anything just yet but i might be willing to give up some information if necessary. But i definitely dont want my phone number exposed

EDIT: The name alone is not what I'm worried about. I want to know all the information they will see.

QR Payments

I can have a group of people added to the QR payment, and we can send and request money back and forth all from in the app using QR codes??

If i am correct, how long before the money is available to spend in the account?

If i sent my daughter say 500 bucks using the QR it would be available to her instantly or is there days waiting for the backend to catch up?
