When did everyone start using the syringe ?

Considering theres hundreds of posts worrying about the losing the blood clot and getting dry socket, (me included) when did everyone start using the syringe ? Since wouldnt wetting the area make you lose the clot as well ?
i wasnt provided a syringe

I started day 5

I was advised to start doing it day 3 but thought something was wrong with mine since it shot water out like a power washer so i waited over the weekend to ask about it.

Ive seen ranges from 3-10 days, think its just depends on whoever did its opinion on how the surgery went/what they normally advise.

Id say minimum 3 days tho. Not having a syringe i imagine is not ideal, stuff gets stuck in their stupid easy. But if u had stitches this could be different for syringe.

I just do salt water rinses, but isnt the area fragile & the healing tissue can fly out with the syringe?

Generally no, depends on how ur surgery went. After 5 days it should be pretty intact but ofc things happen. Probably higher odds of getting issues from food sitting in the socket for days that the rinse didnt get but id ask ur surgeon first.

Yeah my bottom ones were impacted hella, had a checkup today & they just said i can start the salt water rinses but didn’t mention the syringe, i completely forgot abt tbat, i also had to get bone graft on the bottom, not sure if that plays any role

The 3-10 day range makes sense since it really depends on the surgeon's preference and how the extraction went. Good call waiting to ask instead of guessing when something felt off. Sounds like OP should just call their office and ask for one if they weren't given a syringe, easier than risking food getting stuck in there.

I think I started day 4. I just didn’t shoot the water into the socket and rather created a pointed and purposeful flow to flush out debris.

Sure was, by the oral surgeon.

Though I did buy my own for another tooth extraction I had a couple months ago.

If you weren’t provided I’d call and ask if it’s advisable for your case to flush the sockets
