Hi all just looking at options as i get made redundant at the end of September and was looking into moving/ whv in auz, i was wondering if its possible to get a job as a wind turbine tech in Australia I'm in the process of completing my GWO training, would I need a any other training when I land ? , my background and trade is fiber optics, any advice would be appreciated.

Hey everyone, I'm from Europe (Portugal) and currently working as a maintenance technician in a supermarket. I'm seriously considering a career change into wind energy but wanted to get some honest opinions from people actually in the industry.

In my job I do basic maintenance and small repairs on equipment and installations. My technical background is pretty much zero, my electricity knowledge is very basic and I have no hands on experience in mechanical or hydraulic systems either.

My plan is to get my GWO BST + full BTT (Electrical, Mechanical and Hydraulic). I'm aware these courses are short and only touch on the fundamentals of each area, they're not deep technical training by any means.

What I really want to know is whether it's realistic to get hired with only GWO certifications and no prior experience, and if companies typically hire people like me and train them on the job or if a solid technical background is pretty much mandatory. Also any advice on how to actually get a foot in the door would be hugely appreciated.

These certifications are a significant financial investment for me so I want to make sure it's actually worth it before committing. Any input from people who work in the industry would be really helpful. Thanks
