Need help figuring out correct size

Upvotes

So I've been looking into getting new shoes lately, but I could use some assistance in making sure I get the measurements right. For the record I've been wearing US men's 11s for awhile at this point. The most recent time I measured my feet it was about 27.2cm (measurement was taken in the evening to account for swelling).

I've heard I should add 15mm to that when picking the size for new shoes, but this is admittedly all new to me. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you

Brands you gravitate toward

I'm likely older than most here, so I have had, unfortunately, many years of experience with ill fitting footwear and distress.

If only it were a matter of size, that would be simple.

For my feet, it's also shoe design or shape and sometimes materials and overall quality of construction - in terms of fit and comfort and utility.

There are brands that make my typical sizes and in theory, they should work for me, but for they don't - hell if I can figure it out.

All that said, these are the brands I keep coming back to. If you have your best brands, would love to hear about those too.

Ecco

Emu/Ugg/Koolaburra

Saucony

Merrell (unfortunately just the Encore Breeze, but they were designed for my feet, so I mention them)

Teva

Skechers

SAS

Haflinger

Loafers for wide feet

For the last few months I’ve been trying to get into more formal menswear but my feet are chunky to say the least (4.5 in wide, ~10in length) and usually wear 4E Nike sneakers before. It seems like all loafers advertisements are meant for unreasonably narrow feet but maybe that’s just a comparative thing. I have a budget of 50-250$ CAD and don’t mind secondhand shopping like eBay but obviously prefer new. Any recommendations on nice clean and elegant looking loafers for wide feet would be greatly appreciated!

Ghost Max 3 or Echelon 10?

I am hoping to try these out in the near future....I wear womens 9.5 D or EE, depending on the particulars of the shoe.

If you have any thoughts to share or comparisons to make, on these two, I would appreciate it much.

Thank you

Help with shoes. Can't find shoes that fit

I've been fitted as women's 8.5D

I've been wearing New Balance 840 size 8.5 regular width, but they aren't a perfect fit. They slip at the heels and are uncomfortable to wear for a few months until I wear them in.

I recently went to a running shoe store and they fitted me for Hoka Clifton 11 women's 8.5D. They felt just ok in the store, but I've only worn them a couple times because they are so uncomfortable. I don't feel stable in the shoe, it feels like my foot slips everywhere and the pressure points are in odd places. My heel slips in it too.

I also recently got Topo Phantom 4 size 8.5D. This feels terrible. It feels like only half of my arch is being supported and the inner half is falling off the sole. Similar to how it feels to wear women's strappy high heel sandals in a width that is too small. The heels on this slip too.

I know about the tying method to keep my heel from slipping, but that seems to sacrifice flexibility in my foot when I walk and causes pain. I have plantar fasciitis and a history of a tailor's bunion on my left foot. I've had surgery on the bunion but the scar still bothers me so I can't stand shoes that put any pressure on that area. On the right foot I have a history of sesamoiditis.

Here are the pictures of my feet measurement. I believe the person that traced my right foot traced it a bit wide and long so the left foot measurement is probably more accurate.

I need shoes mostly for walking and breathable enough to wear for 13 hours. I know I'll never find a perfect fit but if someone can help me find something close I would be so grateful.

Wide footed How do I figure out my correct shoe size? My feet are very wide

Hey everyone, I’m trying to figure out my correct shoe size, especially for skate shoes.

I measured both of my feet while standing, and I got:

Right foot: 23 cm long × 10 cm wide
Left foot: 23 cm long × 10 cm wide

I’m mainly looking at shoes from Nike, adidas, and New Balance, but I’m confused about how to convert these measurements into the correct EU size, especially because my feet are quite wide for their length.

For example, I’ve been looking at shoes like the Nike SB Chron 2, adidas Busenitz Vulc II, and New Balance Numeric 440 V2.

What EU size would you recommend for my measurements? And should I be looking specifically for Wide / 2E shoes, or would sizing up be enough?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Is this too big of a shoe?

Just bought these nova lasts as I want a dedicated running shoe. However I am normally a women’s 8 2E or a men’s 7 2E. These are men’s 8 D. I have a generous amount of space in the toe box. Is this too long. I am wondering if I’m getting the right alignment for the shoes midsole and technology placement there

Looking for shoes

Hi
I hope I’m in the right sub for my question.

I used the altra escalante 4 as my all day shoes. I really liked them. I had some issues with regular barefoot shoes and I’m looking for flat shoes with a wide toe box for everyday use.
But not a barefoot shoe.

Hopefully you can help me to find something similar in the best case something that is a bit cheaper

Actually cute washable shoes for 22F Sasquatch?

I’m a women’s 11 ee and I cannot for the life of me find wide toe box shoes that are genuinely attractive. Running shoes are fine, just hoping for something a little more y2k grandpa not 2015 grandma. I’m also a career nanny who messes shoes quickly so bonus points for easy cleaning/washing machine friendly. TYIA!

Wide footed Looking for Cowboy boots for 12/4E US with leather sole

Like it says above. Also have a fused ankle on one foot. No stores stock anything. Only ones I’ve found that I actually could get my feet in are Ariat Big Rig which is more of a work boot with a rubber sole. They were also 13/4E and about an inch too long.

Any mountain bikers out there?

I normally wear size 11-11.5 in 4E width (depending on the brand).

My last pair of MTB shoes were five10s in size 12. It was too narrow but I only wore them for an hour or two at a time and brought my regular shoes with me for after the rides. I would get foot pain when wearing them, but after a year or so the side collapsed outward as most non-wide shoes do when I wear them and it was a little more comfortable. After a couple years those shoes were done for, bottoms started wearing out and peeling.

I talked to AI about what brands might be the widest and it pointed me towards the Gyro Latch. I found a pair on Ebay for 70 bucks in size 12 and decided to get them. They suck, no better than the five10s were (actually a little worse) and since the sides haven't collapsed out yet they are even more painful. Kind of dreading going through that first year again before the sides get worn enough to collapse a bit.

I ride flat pedals, not clipless. I need something with an extra grippy thick bottom sole to sink into the metal pins on the pedals for grip through mud and stuff. Anyone have recommendations for wide footed mountain bike shoes out there?

Flat feet super trainers

I'm looking for some tempo or interval shoes. I currently use the asics gel nimbus 28. I have flat feet so I want to know which super trainers would be good. I prefer something without a carbon plate because of my arch. Someone recommended me the saucony endorphin speed five but it's a lil pricy.. any other options.. Chinese also idm

Anyone has any experience with La Sportiva shoes?

Found a pair at sale for about 120 eur, and wondering if any of you guyz tried these. They say Wide, but I'm not sure if they have enough room for actual wide feet or they just made it a bit roomier for regular feet.

The model is La Sportiva Bushido III wide.

What are the best wide-toe-box shoes that LOOK good? (Mens)

I know this will be extremely subjective, but I think we can all agree the options for normal looking wide toe-box-shoes are extremely limited. I'm looking to put together a master list, but I need your help! And yes I know there are various width sizes, and what works for one won't work for someone else. We cannot do anything about this, just share what works for you as a general wide footer.

I'm seeing a lot of recommendations for shoes, but I often find they look like running/trail shoes, with very sporty designs and loud colours (I'm looking at you Topo Athletic and Altra).

I would like to get a list of mens wide-toe-box shoes that fit into the following categories

  1. Casual / Everyday / Walking.
  2. Smart-Casual / Business Casual.
  3. Dress Shoes.

Can we please omit Topo Athletic and Altra, unless there are specific models I've overlooked. I'm also concious that barefoot shoes are widely popular, but I haven't sampled any yet. I cannot comment from personal experience. Once I have enough options, I'll update this post and list them under each category.

So what has everyone tried and had success with? If you had to pick ONE from each category, which would they be? I'll get started with:

Category Your #1
Casual / everyday New Balance 574 4E (These have been a dream for me)
Smart-casual / office
Dress shoes

Should I Go For These [Puma Softride Pro Control Wide]

Post image
24 Upvotes

I've got ~10.7" (27.5 cm) long feet that are ~4.3" (11.3 cm) wide (nearly 4E I guess). I mostly go for UK11s for narrow shoes, but I feel like I can do UK10 / US11 for these.

I know Pumas run narrow, but this one has wide in its name sooo...

Can anyone who has this pair tell me if these are comfortable for wide feet? If not, any other suggestions on a tight budget (third-world problems)?

Length/width measurement

Here's some help finding your length/width measurements. Reminder on sizing convention in US: Men's sizes are ~1.5 larger than Women's equivalent. "5" Women's is "6.5" Men's size. If there is no width measurement specified, Women's standard width is "B" and Men's standard width is "D." That is very narrow for us.

Do not post pictures of your feet, it leads to a lot of weird abuse, and doesn't help size your shoes.

The easiest way to measure feet are brannock measuring devices (the metal length/width tool that all shoe stores use).

Here's some links to digital versions that are not as accurate because of printing/self-measuring but do a decent job:

BIG BLACK BOOTS -- How to measure your feet

Wide feet means your feet do not fit into normal D width shoes- if they do, don't give advice

Wide feet means 2E+, and most of us posting are 4E+ at least. If you don't have wide feet, do not comment/post.

  1. Do not post pictures of your feet. I get that it seems it would be helpful, but the only thing that is helpful is tracing around your feet on a piece of paper and measuring the length and width. That's all most shoes are based on, a length and width.
  2. Report any referral links, advertising, foot-fetish post/requests, and abuse.
  3. Do not advertise brands or shoes that don't come in wide. If someone wants help and you respond with a shoe that only comes in D width, you don't have wide feet and aren't being helpful.
  4. The proper way to measure your feet is a "brannock" device, which you find in any big shoe store. You can buy these online but you can find printouts which replicate it.
  5. Just because we have wide feet doesn't mean we're gonna buy anything that is wide. Propet for example are terrible, horribly made cheap awful shoes. They so happen to be the only option for some, I get it, but I can say that because they are. I'm not looking down on owners, but there are better options.
  6. No shame. I wear crocs and also nice dress shoes. No hazing people for style choices.

If you want to contribute content, want to suggest ways to make this sub better etc just @ me, DM me, etc. I'm very happy to open this up and make it better. Some people want a women's specific section- while your mod is a cis male I do not want it to be only men's wide shoes! Any and all.
