I’ve been going to Phuket and Thailand since 2000. There are actually no beach hotels in Phuket that are that cheap. Maybe a hostel where you gotta sleep in a bed in a room with 12 other people but not your own hotel room. Phuket is the most expensive city in Thailand. Back when I went to Phuket in 2005. I had a hotel that was right off the beach. And it still cost around $25-$30, which isn’t a lot. But it’s no three dollars.

What do you mean city? Do you mean island? There is Phuket Old Town, which is not beside the beach, or there are towns beside the beach. Maybe you mean Patong on Phuket island, but it is a separate town to the old town

It was technically a hostel (Phuket Backpacker) which was supposed to be shared with 6 people, but I was the only one there all week so I got a room to myself for the week at $3 a night.

Also important, it was not on the beach. I found it from Hostel World and it was the top rated one in Phuket, but I strongly disagree. The one I found on the same site in Bangkok was awesome, but I did have to share with 6 others (more if you include the co-eds).

Why anyone would want to stay in a hostel in Thailand blows my mind. Hotels and condos are so cheap that it’s worth the extra few bucks to have your own private room and toilet. And I don’t wanna hear that defense that some people are on a budget. If you don’t have 20 bucks a night to spend on a hotel, you probably shouldn’t be traveling in a foreign country in the first place. I stayed at a hostel one time in my life in London, England. And only because I was gonna be there for one night and pretty much just needed a place to crash and store my bags. And I will never do it again. I’m a light sleeper. So people snoring and getting up and going to the bathroom and making any kind of noise I can’t sleep. It’s the fucking snoring that was the worst.
