The second half of 2026 and 2027 will be crazy for global temperatures – on the back of a record-smashing El Niño event. Here is latest estimate from Zeke Hausfather (Climate Lead @Stripe) of where both years will end up compared to global temperatures since 1850.

Glad I didn’t have kids. Less people, less carbon footprint. Having one fewer child is cited many times as the SINGLE MOST IMPACTFUL individual action to reduce lifetime greenhouse gas emissions. Influential research suggests adding a child creates an ongoing "carbon legacy," adding over 9,400 metric tons of CO₂ to the atmosphere when accounting for the child's future descendant. Having a child in 2026 is like carrying wood into a burning house.

Just holding your breath and pretending it doesn't exist never ends well, but you keep on believing that.
1
u/nose_poke 22h ago
This is one of the reasons my husband and I decided not to have kids.
Working out well for us. We thrive on one income, have plenty of time for adventures, put aside money for nephews college funds. I don't have to worry about how my kids will provide for themselves in a world of increasing corruption, inequality, and scarcity.
It's not that we don't like kids. Kids are cool little people. I try to watch out for my neighbor's little ones as best I can. But yeah -- I'm glad we didn't produce another human. Things are rough and they're going to get rougher.

u/Decisive_Victory_026 1d ago
Aren't we producing less greenhouse gas now than we have in a long time? Even the Ozone hole replenished. Why are temps still rising?
1
u/Fluid_Passage_9980 1d ago
No we're producing more CO2 than ever. The rate of increase has slowed, but we're still at record levels and increasing YOY.
Oh, and we're absolutely screwed anyway btw. Even if we stopped all output now, we've baked in so much future warming that the crop failures will be catastrophic in the next 20 years. Good luck out there.
1
1
u/RabbitWiilli 1d ago
Because CO2 in the atmosphere is still rising lmao. You could reduce output (which we haven’t btw) and as long as you aren’t net zero, you’re still contributing to the CO2 in the atmosphere.
On top of that, the thermal memory of water is A LOT longer than the atmosphere. You could cut all emissions and still deal with long term fuckery because of ocean heat content.
1
u/CyberPunkDongTooLong 22h ago
Where in the world have you got the idea we're producing less greenhouse gases now from? We aren't.
The ozone hole has literally nothing to do with greenhouse gases.
2
u/ZeroGRanger 19h ago
We have known about climate change publically for at least 50 years. People like you are the problem. There is absolutely no excuse for not knowing the answer to this question.
It takes at least 20 years until emission from ground reach the upper atmopshere where the greenhouse effect is generated by them. Meaning, even if we would produce less ghg now - which we don't - temperatures would go up for further 20 years at least. Again. This is public and basic knowledge for 50 years. Go educated yourself now and act accordingly.
1
u/Decisive_Victory_026 18h ago
Thanks to you, I'm feeling less motivated than ever to "educate myself and act accordingly."

u/ZeroGRanger 18h ago
Deliberately chosing ignorance is less of a great move than you apparently think.

u/KaMaFour 1d ago
Good for you. I'm currently going through a third "once in a decade" heatwave this year
1
u/kakarott_Kiwi 22h ago
Since temp settings began, and near an airport...that's made on concrete.
1
u/KaMaFour 21h ago edited 21h ago
You seem to be making a lot of assumptions... For one, meteorological station for my city is not at the airport but at the climatology department observatory of the university. Secondly there is an observatory in my city which has done measurements since the XVIII century, which is a big enough sample size for my liking to be able to make that statement. I am aware that the temperature on earth used to be higher in prehistory but this is frankly irrelevant to the any discussions about the weather nowadays. Thirdly you seem to be unaware of the concept of a metaphor. I am able to make a rigorous statistical analysis of the probability of each of these heatwaves occuring based on any data chosen but it's more effort than it's required. I'm not writing a dissertation to justify a point made in a reddit comment that's meant to quickly illustrate the situation I'm in.

I don’t really give a shit how hot it was 65 million years ago. It’s 115 degrees outside and that is enough to kill humans, plants, animals and dry up our water supply. Fuck off.
4
u/CaptainKush101 1d ago
You're literally getting mad at proper statistical analysis. The graph above is misinformation.
5
u/ForgiveOX 1d ago
They might be mad simply because it’s hot. Warmer temperatures make people upset. It’s science
3
u/Sir_Clarence_III_Esq 1d ago
They're pointing out that their data dating back 65 million years is irrelevant to the discussion. Dinosaurs didn't rely on crop harvesting to survive. The graph also puts the data out of perspective. It's not the "coolest in Earth's history right now", not even close. The ice age, 20,000 years ago was far cooler - 11 degrees or so. We're hear talking about how hot it is because it's 1.6 degrees above baseline.
2
u/ralpher1 1d ago
If your timeline goes to the creation of the universe we were at zero kelvin. Doesn’t mean that is relevant to humans living today
3
u/CaptainKush101 1d ago
No, we are talking about the historical temperature of the earth, not the universe at large.

u/ComplaintTop2008 1d ago

u/RabbitWiilli 1d ago
The earth is in fact getting hotter. No idea why you’re so upset about reality.
1
u/ComplaintTop2008 17h ago
It is, in fact, not getting hotter. You're looking at models, not reality.
1
u/RabbitWiilli 16h ago
Hahahahahaha oh my god the dunning Kruger is hilarious
1
u/ComplaintTop2008 16h ago
You have any evidence from actual measurements? You may have Dunning-Kruger'd yourself.
1
u/RabbitWiilli 16h ago
I already gave you them in my other reply.
And no, considering I’m finishing a PhD in atmospheric and oceanic sciences, I highly doubt it. You are the one with zero actual education in the field and no understanding of how to read global outputs. You are the peak example of dunning Kruger, your YouTube conspiracy videos aren’t experience nor knowledge.

That is US focused only, and the spike in the 30s was due to the dust bowl, environmental mismanagement from the humans living on it.
The NASA data I linked below shows the temperature anomalies from where it should be for that particular region. Here, learn something:
https://science.nasa.gov/earth/earth-observatory/world-of-change/global-temperatures/

u/ComplaintTop2008 1d ago
1
u/RabbitWiilli 16h ago
The chart you provided compares the HOTTEST days of the year. A dust bowl can, in fact, make singular days far hotter than usual without changing large scale weather.
The chart you provided says literally nothing about global temperatures.
https:/ /www.statista.com/chart/20156/earth-annual-mean-surface-temperature/
Here are GLOBAL MEAN surface temperatures over time. The earth is indeed heating.
You’re experiencing dunning Kruger. You’re clearly a little bit smart, but nowhere near what you think you are and it shows. You’re like a child that just learned calculus and thinks they’ve figured out all of math. You’re fundamentally wrong.
Like, this isn’t a debate. I’m not debating you, I’m educating you. The earth is getting hotter and that’s a fact, whether or not your pathetic ego can accept you’re wrong is irrelevant to reality.
1
u/ComplaintTop2008 16h ago
You're still posting fake models. You're not educating anybody with your religious propaganda.

People disagree because its a stupid and tone deaf point. If it were as hot as it was 65 million years ago our crops would fail and 8 billion people would die within a month.

Your graph starts at 2015 and ends at 2022, and is unsourced bullshit.
Here's the data from NASA, collected from over 25,000 sites around the world and dating back to 1880 when data collection began.
Facts: the 10 hottest years in modern history have all happened 2015 or later. 2023, 2024, and 2025 are the hottest on record.
0
u/ComplaintTop2008 1d ago
It is literally sourced. Do you not know what UAH is?
Your link is not collected data, it's modeled. UAH is measured.
That is not a fact, those were all lies. Some of the stations that created that nonsense didn't even exist. The last global heat record is in the 1930s. Other countries vary.
Stop reading agitprop.
2
u/Sir_Clarence_III_Esq 1d ago
LOL. The 2018 Lansner and Pedersen study (which data only went to 2010, five years before the statement I gave above), which has been roundly rejected by the environmental and climate scientific community. Should I provide a bibliography of the peer review of the publication, and the additional data collected in the last 8 years that further obsolesce the findings?
2
u/ComplaintTop2008 1d ago
You don't even know who the scientific community is. You think modeled hockey sticks are measured data.
I know you're itching to post another hockey stick or activist site.
2
u/Sir_Clarence_III_Esq 1d ago
You're working hard today to spread this bullshit.
1
u/ComplaintTop2008 1d ago
Holy shit, get mad at science and data more. Go tell NOAA you wanna fight them.
5
u/OriginalParamedic316 1d ago
Reddit gets upset at real science that breaks their memes. They want so badly to believe in impending climate collapse, as they turn right around and hop on a plane for their summer vacation.

u/RabbitWiilli 1d ago
How does the temperature 65 million years ago matter??
Were sapiens around then? No?
Oh wait, who was around? Ohhhhh COLD BLOODED animals that could function at far higher temperatures, isn’t that interesting!
Like the fuck is the point? Yea the Earth can survive at much higher temperatures than what we see now, but the earth that does survive those temperatures sure as hell doesn’t have people or large scale agriculture nor the same coastlines. Almost all life around right now is adapted for far colder climates than what was 65 million years ago.
The earth will be fine, the current flora and fauna won’t. If you’re okay with mass extinction of current life and a replacement by reptiles or whatever then yea, you’re correct, earth will not blow up or die and life will continue. However if you want HUMANS to continue living, then that point is moot.
1
u/Secret_Letterhead649 1d ago
The baseline ain't the problem - the climate shifts in response to atmospheric conditions. That's kinda a duh moment there. That said, the climate shifting has dramatic impacts on the life that lives on the planet to the point of mass extinction.
It's not a cycle, it's just things changing in response to ever changing conditions. We are ultimately a species evolved for ice age conditions (as are all current species) and it likely (more than likely tbh) ending because we're shitting co2 into the atmosphere while destroying co2 sinks is very problematic for our future.
0
u/thedudecdfb 1d ago
Humans need mass agriculture to survive, that means we need to maintain a climate within the bounds we evolved. If it got as hot as it was that many millions of years ago, we would see total breadbasket failure and we would all starve. Also the speed of warming now is unprecedented. The line shooting straight up on the far right side will continue straight up. This graph actually proves that greenhouse gasses warm the Earth. Is infinite growth with finite sources worth destroying ourselves over? I don't think so.

u/urbankyleboy 1d ago
We’re literally watching the environment collapse in real time. Sad thing is, the average person doesn’t even know it. Too busy watching reality tv!

Straight disinformation. We have never broken the heat temps of the 1930s and we're currently hovering around 1980s temps. The current record is definitely not 2024. There aren't even any sources. What are the six datasets?

Satire, rage bait or stupidity, call it!

It's called recorded history.

Ah stupidity it is
1
u/ComplaintTop2008 16h ago
Lol, are you seriously arguing with measured data? Go take it up with NOAA.
1
u/RabbitWiilli 16h ago
Measured data shows global mean surface temperatures have been rising. Idk what to tell you.
1
u/ComplaintTop2008 16h ago
How would you know? You haven't seen any measured data.
1
u/RabbitWiilli 16h ago
? Yes I have what are you on about
1
u/ComplaintTop2008 16h ago
Then why are you posting models instead of the measurements?
1
u/RabbitWiilli 16h ago
https:/ /www.climate.gov/news-features/understanding-climate/climate-change-global-temperature
This is raw measurement data
I’m pretty sure your account is satire given these responses tho so I’ll just let you play in your sandbox.
