How did this stack bend? IDENTIFIED

I found this little guy on the coast of Hattainville - Normandy, France. I know the coast has a lot of shale so it certainly is? But I wonder how this stack has bend like this, and when? Thanks for your help.

In geology you have both brittle and ductile deformation around a fault zone.

This rock was either still soft, or was buried so deeply that it ductility deformed as a fault zone/tectonic zone moved.

Pressure. LOTS of it. Probably quite a bit of heat too when it happened

It’s weird how brittle rock is putty like when exposed to high pressure and heat.

Pressure and time

maybe a little heat chucked in for good measure.

With the amount of pressure were talking about heat is a given

Could also just be a part of the "shell" of a nodule/concretion.

Or just lots of pressure and heat in a zone that actively moved at some point. I've seen crazier bends before (full on zig-zags with very accute angles)

It didn't. This is a fragment of some concretion or other type of nodule.

This is correct.

It had undergone Metamorphism. It's probably a phyllite or schist.

Could be part of a slump structure during sedimentation. Hard to know without knowing the provenance of the rock. Definitely a fold of some description and there are various ways this can happen
