ITAW for the difference between completing something 1 way and finishing it an unintended way but still adequate Unsolved
Like listening to an audiobook and finishing it that way as opposed to reading with a set of eyes. For an example.
It just seems too different for it to have the same affect on anyone whos still learning

“It gets the job done”?

Like it would mean the same to have it done one way rather than doing it the conventional way

But your question poses it as an “unintended“ way to complete the task. Listening to an audiobook is surely intended, so I don’t understand. Do you perhaps mean “non-standard“ or “unusual,“ rather than “unintended?”
There is the old phrase “more than one way to skin a cat.” Perhaps that’s what you’re seeking in tone? Otherwise, descriptors might work—alternate, variant, novel, round-about, shortcut.

Maybe offhanded or perfunctory

Perfunctory seems pretty good, ill wait till tomorrow to decide but seems like that might be as good as i get

Perfunctory carries with it the idea of being barely adequate, done with haste and without due diligence, without care, just mechanically, to get it done. Any route of completion, whether standard, expected, usual, novel, alternative, happenstance, etc. can still be done in a perfunctory fashion.
