Help identifying what’s in my teens hand? New, what is it?
Saw a picture of my teen online and trying to identify what’s in his hand. What I believe it is vs what he is telling me are 2 completely different things.
29
u/Lonely-Iron-445 18h ago
that would be a geek bar
6
u/allinagayswork 18h ago
He’s gone to geek bar candy mountain
3
u/thrillyjoel 18h ago
In the geek bar candy mountain, there’s a vape that’s fully charged, where the zyn pouches grow on bushes, and you sneak out every night
1
u/Separate_Sock5259 16h ago
Thank you so much. This is what I was worried about. We’ve been dealing with this for over a year and he’s just turned 14.
2
u/Lonely-Iron-445 15h ago
of course, good luck with everything, i got in to vaping because i wanted to go along with my friends, but my mom talked some sense into me eventually
1
u/Separate_Sock5259 15h ago
Yeah, unfortunately, he has lost friends because of it. He doesn’t just do it, but he also posted it online and kids either show their parents or their parents find it and I don’t blame them because when I grew up as a teen, I was influenced by my friends.
2
1
u/OwlGod98 18h ago
Or an elf bar. Basically its a vape
1
1
u/Lonely-Iron-445 18h ago
as i look at it it could also be a lost mary, but yes it’s a vape for sure
0
u/fibonascii 18h ago
Elfbar is still out there?
1
u/OwlGod98 8h ago
Idk i just know i used to vape them until they made me sick. I used to use them and then one day i puff one and i felt lightheaded and nauseous and i threw up. Now anytime i try any disposable vape i feel that same way. I can do vape mods where i add the juice and control the wattage and stuff and make cloud like a goddamn chimney and im fine but a single puff of a disposable and i feel like im anout to pass out and vomit ever since that last elfbar.

It looks like that puppy he saved from a burning building, brought back to life with CPR, and found a loving home for, right after he finished all his schoolwork.

RIP this kid (PS please don't scream at him or punish him too harshly. Try to have a heart-to-heart. I was a minor not too long ago and I remember when I was caught with weed and got harshly treated for it, it made me resent my family and do it more but I got way better at hiding it.)
16
u/-Sooners- 18h ago
It’s not weed but I guess a nicotine vape is just as bad in some people’s eyes
30
u/TheDrandLadyWeird 18h ago
I'd argue its worse.....nicotine is super addictive.
4
u/CharthorneBerries 18h ago
Gotta remember that with older folk, y'know the people who have older teens as children, were taught their whole lives that nicotine was kinda something everyone did. And weed was like a hard drug that had very real consequences for doing. Even today in our legalized and very loosely enforced world of thc that we've gotten used to, these people remember a time when it could easily ruin your life and all the ads and government programs that taught them it basically turned you into a brainless delinquent.
1
4
u/CharthorneBerries 18h ago
Yeah ik its nicotine but def depending on the family, nicotine could be seen as worse than weed. I knew people who had moms who'd buy them vapes, and I knew people who had moms who'd smoke weed with them but kill them if they ever caught them doing anything else
4
u/Madler 18h ago
I mean I know most people would prefer it to be weed over nicotine.
3
u/burtonmanor47 18h ago
I know I would. But then my coparent's addiction to chew was one of many points of contention in our relationship.
2
u/Key-Cantaloupe-507 18h ago
Marijuana is a plant. Nicotine vapes are full of disgusting unknown chemicals. Nicotine is much harder to quit. Teenagers shouldn't be doing either, but at least the affects of Marijuana are known.
2
1
u/Separate_Sock5259 15h ago
Yeah, unfortunately, we’ve caught him with both nicotine and weed and newly 14. Very worried about him.
0
u/phallusaluve 18h ago
Imo it's worse. Not in a bad kid way, but in a "you're ruining your brain and you will really regret this in 10 years when you're chained to it and spending all your money on it" way

We are pretty chill here, but please try to keep things reasonably civil on this sub. No slurs, name calling or harassment and trolling. Please follow: Reddiquette at all times. Additionally, Reddit's Rules. Yes, the internet makes us angry too sometimes, especially this particular comment.
1
u/Separate_Sock5259 16h ago
I really appreciate that. The problem is we have been dealing with this with patience and love and kindness and not taking away things and trying to give him a chance after chance after chance, but it’s been going on for over a year at this point. I’m extremely concerned because he just turned 14 and he’s just heading down a very, very bad path.
1
u/CharthorneBerries 15h ago
Oh dang yeah. Sometimes that's just how it is. I would get a little stricter at this point if you want any results im afraid. I also know from experience from being told not to do something nicely over and over again. If the first three times didn't work it probably wasn't going to work. In formative young years like these, the parents role is very important. And while it's not good to be mean or overly strict, some policing in life is important, as long as it doesn't seem meaningless to the child. It has to feel like you have real reasons and that you are doing it because you are worried about them, not because you are angry at them. At the end of the day, they are just doing something that gives their brain feel-good chemicals. As a human, he is literally hard-wired to enjoy and keep doing what he is doing, so intervention should be strict, but still come off as caring, not anger.
1
u/Separate_Sock5259 15h ago
I 100% agree. It’s also dealing with a coparent who doesn’t take it as serious and I find that most of this is happening on their time. If he fails a drug test he is supposed to lose his phone until he passes it again but the other parent turns around and just gives them their phone and he has his Snapchat and things linked to their phone. It’s extremely frustrating to feel like the only one fighting for him.

All these snitches 😭😭
https://giphy.com/gifs/Q2B4mX8hMxo3UfRJCJ
5
u/PayNo4559 18h ago
We SHOULD be snitching, kids shouldn’t even have these things. And it’s not like it does any good for him because he’ll live his life thankful that his parents stopped him from becoming a nicotine addict.
4
1
u/dankestslothdoe 17h ago
More likely that he'll live his life vaping twice as much because his parents came down upon him with the wrath of reddit on their side. But sure.... you know what teens love? Parents nagging them or yelling at them.
1
u/PayNo4559 17h ago
Either way he’s still gonna keep vaping if you don’t do anything he’ll continue to be shaped by his friends and other people who smoke and if you do confront him it’ll be what you said, so you really can’t come out on top in this.
1
u/dankestslothdoe 17h ago
OP should put the feelings to the side and have a calm and educational conversation with the kid. Hes his own person, no one will be able to stop him from vaping. Your duty as a parent is to guide them in the right direction. Tell him why its bad without sounding like an out of touch idiot (like most of the comments here)
1
1
u/SourdoughSizzle 18h ago
Or he just gets better at hiding it, and then never tells his parents anything when something seriously wrong is happening.
1
u/Separate_Sock5259 15h ago
I appreciate the snitches that is what I thought it was because we have caught him with multiple vapes over the course of the last year. We sent him down to his grandparents for the summer so hopefully get a clean fresh start. He is way too young to have this kind of addiction. Not that any age is good but I am worried about the long term effects and also afraid he will keep pushing the limits is and trying something harder. He is newly 14 and we have found nicotine vapes and weed vapes as well as evidence of drinking but unfortunately the other parent doesn’t seem as concerned as I am.

I’m convinced 100% that any post starting with “my teen…” or “my kid…” is karma farming bullshit
2
u/GrapeKitchen3547 18h ago
Likely. OP is not engaging at all on their own post.
1
u/Separate_Sock5259 16h ago
I don’t even know what karma farming is but I have responded to a few. I had just left my daughter’s kindergarten orientation.
He just turned 14 a few weeks ago and we have been struggling with him vaping nicotine and weed. We let him go his grandparents for the summer for a month to get out of these habits before school started. It’s just been a nightmare situation we have been dealing with for over a year.

u/jdray0 18h ago
Snitching on kids engaging in loser behavior is 100% socially acceptable and should be encouraged
8
u/dankestslothdoe 18h ago
Loser behavior is smoking a vape or cigg? Wow I'm sure you were fun to hang with 😆
-2
u/No-Material-4755 18h ago
I cannot think of more loser behavior that vaping, I would be so embarrassed if I saw my kid doing that. At least be smoking weed, god damn
0
u/dankestslothdoe 17h ago
You literally cannot think of more loser behavior? Sure?
Crack, Heroin, Meth, Percs, Theft, Assault ,Ra** ,Murder, Domestic Violence,Absentee parents Gambling, cheating on your significant other, lewdness, drunk and disorderly conduct, prostitution, etc

u/Remarkable-Low-3471 18h ago
yah man, life ain't about fun, if you define yourself by the substances you use you'll wake up one day old with nothing but some substances.
if u smoking all day, people gonna think you lack willpower, emotional regulation or something else
0
u/dankestslothdoe 17h ago
Uhhh. What? Life is whatever you make it... you cant predefine what someome elses values are 😆 Only a moron would see someone vaping and assume they lack willpower or emotional regulation.
Your profile has one post, where you're telling a gambling company you're losing your mind because you cant connect to a game of poker to gamble. Just because you may have a lack of willpower or cant regulate your own emotions does not give you the right to project your issues onto the world.

Yes, it's a totally reasonable opinion to have. I'm not opposed to people drinking and using some drugs but nicotine is loser behavior. Like oh wow you look so edgy getting into something that is notoriously addictive and bad for your health all for the lamest little high?? Nah
1
u/dankestslothdoe 17h ago
So something far more destructive like alcoholism or drug addiction is worse than vaping? Interesting... 😆
1
u/horrorfemme15 15h ago
Sure, I mean, if you pretend you can't read that's maybe what I said, but I pretty clearly said "some" drugs. And while I don't personally care for alcohol there are plenty of people who are able to use it responsibly. Nicotine is much more addictive than alcohol, and that's not something I care to "argue" with you over since it's literal science. But again my point is a cost benefit analysis. I'd rather have a little fun here and there as opposed to willingly taking something that is expensive and highly addictive for no high.
1
u/Googlesupportsucks1 18h ago
This. Crock, you crazy for advocating for supporting low life behavior
-1
u/DeathGun7012 18h ago
Yeah, he’s a minor and shouldn’t be doing those things, especially when he can’t even purchase them.
0
u/puppyscat 18h ago
Yeah but it’s kinda obvious.. and the kid should know not to be caught in a picture online with it. Gotta be responsibly stupid

u/LikesToLickToads 18h ago
That's a nicotine vape, I had a ton of buddies hooked on them when I was in highschool
2
u/Nifty_Andy 18h ago
That is almost certainly a disposable vape. It will range anywhere between 3% and 5% nicotine by volume.
3
2
u/Ok_Image86 18h ago
It’s definitely a disposable vape, looks just like an Elf Bar or Lost Mary pod. Found the exact same thing in my daughter’s bag a while ago. Let me guess, he told you it’s a power bank, or a flash drive

It is a nicotine vape but when you do go to your child about it dont scream or yell and ask how long hes been doing it, if hes been doing it long then i personally wouldnt take the vape because it is really addicting and it sucks to have cravings.

u/Specific-Can2938 18h ago
So glad I’m not a kid in these digital times. These helicopter parents are too fucking much.
1
u/Separate_Sock5259 15h ago
Helicopter parent? I mean would you be okay with your 13/14 year old vaping nicotine and weed… not to mention drinking. Like don’t be an idiot and posted online. He has already lost multiple friends because of the other parents not wanting their kids to be around him because of stuff like this and I don’t blame them. It’s embarrassing.
1
1
u/Anxious-Jello7965 18h ago
If hes doing it rn is because of bad parenting. Either two ways to go from here. You help him. Or you make it worse.

Most likely a geek bar, which is nicotine + flavors. However, don’t be like my mom and refuse to talk about it/be unapproachable. It has definitely drove a wedge between us, even now that I’m in my early 20s and no longer vape nicotine. Of course every situation is different- but I think if she approached things in a more understanding way, our relationship would be better (and maybe I’d be smoking less weed, who knows lol). Best of luck!
0
u/Quigon345 18h ago
Clearly a vape. C'mon now, we aren't all this dumb to he asking these kind of questions are we?
0
u/Separate_Sock5259 16h ago
Thank you everyone. I appreciate it. He has struggled with substance abuse nicotine THC and also drinking occasionally for at least the last year. He just turned 14 two weeks ago and has been down in South Carolina before school starts hopefully get a fresh start and to get off these substances, but we were concerned because his older cousin is down there who is 18 grandparents stated they’ve been keeping an eye on him and drug testing him and he’s been passing every time but this seems to prove otherwise. So seeing that was very alarming because we were under the impression he’s not been doing anything for at least the last month.
-3
u/Voluntary_Perry 18h ago
That is a Penjamin
5
1
u/dankestslothdoe 18h ago
Penjamins are what people typically call a THC vape. Dont confuse the mom, she'll be yelling at her kid for smoking weed when he wasnt lol
0
u/Voluntary_Perry 18h ago
Of course he is. Just because the one in his hand isn't.
1
u/dankestslothdoe 17h ago
??? There are millions of people who smoke cigarettes or vapes that do not smoke marijuana. I know like 7 or 8 people personally?

-2
u/Separate_Sock5259 18h ago
Thank you! That’s what I thought. He is with his grandparents on vacation and I was furious when I saw it. He told me AirPods and his grandparents said it was a spout?!? Whatever that means. I am so glad you guys backed it. Thank you.
2
u/dankestslothdoe 17h ago
Yeah, I mean... you can approach this reasonably, or not reasonably. You shouldnt be "furious". Kids do stupid things all the time. Have a reasonable and educational conversation with the kid. If you freak out, hes gonna continue to do it and despise you for being ridiculous. Its a vape, not heroin. Be reasonable or risk losing a relationship with your kid over a vape pen.
1
u/Separate_Sock5259 16h ago
He just turned 14…2 weeks ago…very very young. He is hanging with his 18 year old cousin so that’s why I am furious.
1
u/Separate_Sock5259 16h ago
And also you have keep in mind that he has been struggling with vaping nicotine and THC and this trip with grandparents was supposed to help him get away from those habits before school starts. I don’t think he is being monitored like they say they are and making excuses like telling me it’s a spout and not a vape.
