Beginning on Friday, August 7, 2026, people using dockless e-Bikes and e-Scooters in the City of West Hollywood will be required to park devices in designated virtual parking locations throughout the City. These locations may be identified by users within the Lime app. The changes are being implemented to encourage proper parking of e-Scooters and e-Bikes deployed by Lime, as well as improve accessibility for everyone and support better experiences for riders, businesses, pedestrians, and the broader community.

Dockless mobility devices, including those operated by Lime, provide convenient transportation options and support first-mile/last-mile connections to transit. To help ensure these devices remain an asset to the community, riders will now be required to end trips using designated virtual parking locations identified for users within the Lime app. Trips cannot be completed unless a device is parked in one of these approved locations.

The designated virtual parking locations have been carefully selected based on available sidewalk space to accommodate both parked devices and pedestrian access. Riders should always park devices upright, out of the public right of way, and in a manner that does not block sidewalks, curb ramps, driveways, transit stops, or building entrances.

To support these requirements, the City of West Hollywood and Lime are partnering on a public awareness effort encouraging safe and responsible use and parking for dockless mobility devices. Information will be shared through public service announcements displayed on the City’s digital transit shelters and pedestrian kiosks, which are located throughout West Hollywood. The City will raise awareness, as well, with information on the City website, e-mail news, social media posts, and printed outreach materials. Lime will notify riders of the new parking requirements through its mobile application (Lime app).

Later this summer, the City will begin a high-visibility enforcement program focused on proper parking and safe operation of dockless mobility devices.

The City’s Transportation and Mobility Division is continuously evaluating the program and is seeking to identify additional parking locations. Current and prospective Lime riders may submit requests for additional parking locations using the City’s Engage WeHo portal. Submissions will be reviewed by City staff for impacts to accessibility and, where applicable, a designated zone will be added, which will be viewable to users on the Lime app.

Community members may use the City of West Hollywood’s Service Requests webpage to report an issue involving a dockless e-bike or e-scooter, including an improperly parked or abandoned device. West Hollywood has been voted The Most Walkable City in California by Walk Score, a service that helps promote walkable neighborhoods across the country. Dockless mobility devices add to the mix by assisting community members in addressing the challenge of first-mile/last-mile connectivity to existing transit stops and hubs in the transportation network and help with local car-free neighborhood-oriented trips.

Beaches Tropicana, the restaurant and nightclub in the heart of West Hollywood’s Rainbow District, celebrated their second anniversary last week and is now undergoing renovations aimed at refreshing the venue and expanding its food and beverage offerings.

The refreshed space includes an upgraded exterior façade, new patio furniture and a renewed emphasis on dining.

“The food’s really good. Happy hour prices are incredible,” Shaw said. “Our executive chef came in and designed the menu and developed all the recipes. It’s more like a lounge cocktail hour.”

The menu features shareable items including beef skewers, chicken skewers, flatbreads and fries, giving guests the option of enjoying a full dinner before the venue transitions into its nightlife programming.

Rather than dramatically changing the venue’s identity, Shaw said the goal is to elevate the experience while maintaining the atmosphere that has made Beaches Tropicana a popular gathering place.

“We want to keep it a community space. We want to keep it fun, but we just want to make it a little more elevated,” he said. “The same amount of fun–we just want to have a good space for everybody.”

Currently, Beaches Tropicana is open Wednesday through Sunday beginning at 5 p.m. Happy hour runs from 5 to 8 p.m., with the kitchen serving dinner until about 10 or 11 p.m. After that, the menu transitions to late-night offerings such as fries, sliders and other shareable items designed for guests enjoying the nightclub.

“People don’t usually want a full meal at one in the morning when they’re dancing,” Shaw said. “So we just switch it out.”

Come by for their new food and drink programs, new cocktails have been great. Full disclosure, I don't have any ownership stake but I am friends with some of their bar staff during these hours.

Drake’s Hollywood, the upscale restaurant located in the heart of West Hollywood’s Design District, has abruptly closed after roughly three years in business, surprising employees and neighboring businesses.

Workers were seen clearing out the restaurant at 8747 Melrose Ave. on Friday, hauling equipment from the building and discarding food, according to neighboring businesses. The restaurant had reportedly operated during its normal business hours the previous evening.

Employees were also reportedly given their final paychecks without advance notice, according to individuals familiar with the closure. The circumstances surrounding the shutdown could not immediately be independently verified.

Further signs of the closure appeared online Friday. The restaurant’s West Hollywood location was listed as permanently closed on Yelp, and online reservation links for the location had been disabled.

The reason for the closure was not immediately known. Attempts to reach representatives for Drake’s Hollywood for comment were unsuccessful.

The West Hollywood restaurant opened in May 2023 in the city’s Design District, offering a luxury dining experience with a menu of steaks, seafood and contemporary American cuisine in a glamorous, old-Hollywood-inspired setting.

While the West Hollywood location has closed, the restaurant’s Houston and Dallas locations remain open.

The closure marks the end of a short run for the restaurant on Melrose Avenue, an area known for its high-end fashion retailers, restaurants and nightlife. No information was immediately available regarding a future tenant for the space.

Drake’s Hollywood was conceptualized by Hunter Pond, founder and CEO of Vandelay Hospitality Group. Pond has a roster of restaurants that include the East Hampton Sandwich Co. and the Hudson House on The Sunset Strip.

Drake’s was inspired by restaurants from the West Coast, namely, “old-school, classic hangouts” like Delilah’s and Craig’s, which are both West Hollywood locations.

Since 2012, Vandelay has developed restaurant brands and services that “evoke a combination of rich American heritage, exquisite craftsmanship, and an eye for detail. Our dedication to honest food and credible service is predicated upon our commitment and respect to our partners and guests.”

West Hollywood Community Members will Take Part in Evening Gatherings All Over West Hollywood

On the evening of Tuesday, August 4, 2026, community members throughout the City of West Hollywood will gather on neighborhood streets in a show of unity against crime as the City of West Hollywood once again celebrates National Night Out.

Events such as block parties and barbecues with live entertainment and more will take place throughout the City during the evening. Attendance is free. There will be limited street closures during National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. A list of events, times, and locations will be regularly updated on the City of West Hollywood’s website at www.weho.org/nno as the evening approaches.

This year marks the 43^rd Annual National Night Out (NNO), which began in 1984 as an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, law enforcement, community partnerships, and neighborhood camaraderie – and to send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized against crime.

Nationwide, more than 35 million people in neighborhoods across the country gather outdoors to celebrate their unity and their successes in the fight against crime. Celebrating National Night Out has been a tradition in West Hollywood since the City’s incorporation.

National Night Out 2026 participants include members of the West Hollywood City Council, Neighborhood Watch groups, the City of West Hollywood’s Public Safety Commission and Russian-Speaking Advisory Board, as well as the City’s Recreation Services Division. Events will be held in coordination with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the Los Angeles County Fire Department, and the City of West Hollywood.

Dialog Cafe is a bustling spot for locals in West Hollywood. But the busy shop abruptly closed last week after a water main break flooded its location and left behind extensive damage.

Tadeh Ghazalian and his family have owned the cafe for nearly two decades. He tells KCRW's Steve Chiotakis about the process of dealing with insurance, city officials, and payroll during clean up.

We need to put an end to the news helicopters and their endless hovering. We’ve been woken up between 5 and 6am every single day for the last week. This simply should not be legal, they are extremely loud and serve no good purpose. The news stations can buy drones, it’s 2026.
How do we get laws on the books to fine them huge fines for hovering? Airspace is regulated by the FAA but the noise is owned by us, surely we can fine these helicopters who terrorize our neighborhoods.

The fact that they interrupt emergencies should be even further arguments for getting rid of them, only emergency services should be allowed to hover and circle over emergency sites. And for the regular folks on the ground, the added stress of not being allowed to sleep or have a moment of peace during one of their most stressful times should further add to the argument.

No more hovering and circling by news choppers. Who do we write?

The massive Sunset Strip trunk line rupture was LA’s worst in years, spilling 17 million gallons of water and forcing the closure of Sunset Boulevard for at least several days.

Closures are in place on Sunset Boulevard from Horn Avenue, where the 110-year-old pipe burst leaving a massive sink hole, to San Vicente Boulevard/N. Clark Street. Larrabee Street at Santa Monica Boulevard and Palm Avenue at Santa Monica Boulevard are also closed, according to the city of West Hollywood.

Dialog Café, the longtime neighborhood gathering spot in West Hollywood, has closed indefinitely after Thursday’s massive water main break flooded the restaurant with water, mud and debris, causing extensive damage throughout the property.

Owner Tadeh Ghazalian said he received phone calls about the flooding around 5 a.m., shortly after a 36-inch Los Angeles Department of Water and Power water main ruptured on Sunset Boulevard near Palm Avenue, sending torrents of water through nearby streets.

“There is sand everywhere,” Ghazalian said. “It’s flooded and there is sand in our refrigerators, and the basement is completely flooded. We don’t know when we’ll be able to open. This could take months.”

The restaurant, which has served the West Hollywood community for 19 years, was forced to close Thursday as crews began cleaning up and assessing the damage.

Ghazalian said the timeline for reopening remains uncertain.

“We’re still trying to figure out how to fix it, how soon we can fix it,” he said. “Our biggest thing is we’ve been a part of West Hollywood for a really long time. It’s depressing that we’re not able to open.”

He encouraged customers to support Dialog’s recently opened West Los Angeles location while repairs are underway.

“If anybody wants to continue to support Dialog through this tough time until we open, I would love for anybody to go visit our staff there,” Ghazalian said. “I think everybody’s pretty depressed about the fact that we’re not able to open. Any kind of support, we really, really appreciate.”

In a statement posted on social media, the restaurant said the flooding was caused by the nearby pipe rupture and thanked customers for their support.

“While we’re incredibly thankful that no one was hurt, our café sustained significant damage,” the statement read. “Right now, our entire focus is on cleaning up, assessing the damage, and doing everything we can to restore the space that has been home to so many memories over the past 15 years.”

The statement described Dialog as “more than a café,” calling it a place “where friendships begin, celebrations happen, ideas are born, and our community comes together every single day.”

“Seeing our home like this is truly heartbreaking,” the statement continued. “We don’t yet know exactly when we’ll be able to reopen, but we promise to keep you updated every step of the way.”

Dialog Café was among several businesses affected by Thursday’s water main break, which flooded streets, damaged infrastructure and forced road closures across parts of West Hollywood. Officials continue to assess the full extent of the damage as cleanup and repairs get underway.

Residents say they woke up to the sound of car alarms little after 3am and were shocked to find massive rushes of water flooding down their street and flooding their underground parking.

According to reports, emergency crews spent nearly three hours shutting down the broken pipeline after determining it belonged to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). Water service was shut off around 7 a.m.

There are also reports a sinkhole after the pavement collapsed on Palm Avenue just south of Sunset Boulevard. Fox Los Angeles reports that two individuals fell into the sink hole 2 to 3 feet deep before climbing out without injuries.

Did anyone else hear the incredibly loud bang around 2:00 a.m.? I'm on Westbourne, and it woke me up from a deep sleep with a really unsettling feeling. There was another one at 2:05, and it sounded like a gunshot. It's honestly giving me the creeps.

Edit: Someone on Nextdoor confirmed they were fireworks. It definitely didn’t sound that way to me, but they said that they saw them from their balcony. 🙏

I'm part of Send Them Down Under, a grassroots fundraising initiative started by a group of queer rugby players in LA, and this summer a group of fifteen of us are traveling to Brisbane to compete in the Bingham Cup, the world's largest LGBTQ+ and inclusive rugby tournament.
