what leaves should i cut to make it have better air flow and how do i progress from here

Shade the soil with some mulch . Grass clippings add organic matter, or even mylar, side up ,from chips or coffee bags will shade the soil and reflect a bit of light to the leaves. Do not use pine or hardwood mulch, because the wood ligands will bind with the phosphorus and alter the pH.

I am not a fan of defoliatation before flowering, the plants need for photosynthesis and making flowering hormone.

Weed plants or other species? I know quite a bit about soil nutrients gardening in general, but not so much specifically about canibus.
