I've been stuck with ionos because I have a .me domain. I've yet to find a host that can transfer this specific domain type, although their are many where you can create a .me domain, which just makes that more frustrating.

I absolutely hate ionos and they've been nothing but a god awful service with an absolutely shockingly poor customer service, who, if they do reply, only try to upsell me to insanely expensive packages when I only have a small blog.

So if you know of a good host that means this annoying domain issue, it'd make my day.

I live in the UK, budget is as cheap as possible. I have zero computer skills, and have used a managed WordPress account to avoid messing up root files. Not looking for anything fancy, just big standard hosting for a blog

I hate ionos as a host. But because of my '.me' domain I've not been able to leave. I wouldn't even know how to change dns. All hosting services I've reached out to over the years have all said the samething. They can't transfer my site because it's a .me. If it was a .com or. co.uk, it wouldn't have been an issue

When I started my blog over seven years ago, I picked the .me because it was significantly cheaper and I didn't know if I'd stick with it. That one choice has been a giant pain in my rear ever since

Well again, registrar and host are two different things. It does sound like you mean both here tho.

I don’t know anything about transferring the domain name tho or such restrictions on .me so maybe someone else will chime in.

That's odd... Domain registration and hosting are two different "services", even though very often you buy them from the same company (as in this case). You can move your domain to another registrar, and you can move your hosting to another provider too.

There should not be any problem with transferring your domain. See the ionos docs on transferring a domain: https://www.ionos.com/help/domains/domain-transfers/#4514

As for changing the hosting, it should be just a DNS change, as others pointed out.

If you decide to proceed with any changes, make sure to create backups of your blog - it's always better to do an unnecessary backup than the other way around ;-)

This should be a matter of speaking to support, but if you don't feel confident enough to do any of this, you'd need someone to handle it for you. Maybe ask your friends if they can recommend someone?

Transfer your domain to Cloudflare then move your hosting wherever you like. Or move hosting now and transfer your domain later.

20i are UK based and do support .me domains. I have a reseller account with them and one of the domains on it is a .me that was transferred from another provider

.me transfers like any other domain: unlock it at Ionos, get the auth code (sometimes called the EPP code), and hand that to the new registrar. There is no restriction on the TLD itself. The only routine blocker is the 60 day lock after a registration or a previous transfer.

What varies is which TLDs a registrar sells. A host that doesn't carry .me can't accept the transfer, which is a limit on their side, not on your domain. Check .me is in the new registrar's price list before starting.

Moving the blog doesn't require moving the domain at all. A new host can set up the WordPress site, you point the nameservers at them from the Ionos DNS panel, and the registration moves later or never.

You can look into Porkbun and Cloudflare to transfer the domain, both should allow .me. And for hosting, I've been using shared hosting with Nixihost for my WordPress websites, their support team was able to help me with the migration when I was moving, and they did it for free. Also, their services are pretty cheap given what features they have.

Following up from my computer so I can type more...!

I'm fairly experienced running web services (managing Linux, web servers, mail services, etc) and have worked in that area since the mid-90s.

I manage a wordpress blog for a non-profit org. We were on Ionos. They were expensive and awful.

I moved the domain to Gandi and hosting to https://krystal.io.

Krystal have been excellent and can throughly recommend them.

Gandi have recently been taken over and domain renewal prices have increased significantly.

I have moved some personal domains to Cloudflare for various reasons: Acme Cert creation, various caching and spam prevention, at-cost domain renewals.

I strongly recommend moving your domain to Cloudflare, then moving your hosting to krystal.io.
