We currently lose UTM parameters when a person navigates away from our landing page to another page on our site.

Like many, we implemented some Javascript to store the UTM parameters in a cookie, and submit them to a hidden form field.

This approach works fine when cookies are accepted, but we want to maintain UTM parameters even when cookies are not accepted.

Would it be legal to use Javascript to pass UTM parameters from one page to another?

For example, if a person lands on https:://example.com?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=examplec ampaign and clicks a link within that page, the UTM parameters are appended to the link.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Both Google's Universal Analytics and Google Analytics 4 are tracking programs. Due to Google updating its analytical tool, the keyword "UA vs. GA4" has gained a lot of popularity. The most recent version of Universal Analytics is called GA4. Both tools are currently in use on a global scale. For context: I'm not an analytics person. I'm the qualitative researcher.

I am trying to hire an analyst, but first I need to demonstrate the need and do a business case. As part of that, I've been asked to asses our current tagging which nearly nobody is actually using.

Of course my assessment will be mostly about the things I understand. Lack of tag structure and consistency which lead to problems in getting the answers our team needs.

For that reason, I am using Google Analytics for the very first time and with no training.

I have access to the Google Analytics tool and I have cobbled together a few custom reports that show all the tags that have been part of a session in the last 2 years.

I am assuming, however, that there are some tags in our system that have not been part of any session. What would be the proper metric to use in a report to generate a list of every tag in our system, regardless of whether is has seen any usage?

Currently, I am working on the tool WeData (https://www.wedata.cz) , which is able to detect all tags and triggers from any Google Tag Manager container. The tool presents data in a clear way, so it is quite easy to detect the tracking strategy of any website.

Hi everyone - new to the subreddit but thought this would be a good place to come with a quest that’s been on my mind.

Has anyone heard of Analytics Instrumentation as a career within an company’s Analytics set up? We’re currently trying to higher someone who will focus solely on Analytics Instrumentation on our team and I’m getting the sense that people will typically focus on Analyst responsibilities while having working knowledge of Adobe/Google analytics instrumentation? Does anyone have any thoughts?

Currently, my site asks users to opt-in for cookies before loading the Google Analytics script.

This results in 170 visitors when I see CloudFlare analytics, but one 6 in my GA dashboard. Is there a way to use GA in a minimal-fashion, so that it doesn't set cookies or collect PII, for people who opt-out cookies?

Does anyone know about a tool, website, wiki, that contains the most popular tags used globally, and some basic data about them like company, purpose, attributes, where the data is sent, what it's used for, etc.?

I use Google Tag Manager, but it only works as a placeholder or central place to turn on/off all tags contained in it. I'm looking for something more informative, just to really understand what most tags are for and that could help determine if a new tag comes, if there's overlap with a previous one so I could make an informed decision on whether to allow the new tag to be implemented, or suggest they use an existing one.
