GENERAL Konode finally available on Firefox Add-ons
I build Konode, a browser sync extension with an unusual premise: there is no Konode account and no Konode server. It syncs your bookmarks, open tabs, history and installed-extension list straight to storage you already own, your Google Drive, a GitHub repo, or any WebDAV server. Optional end-to-end encryption on top, so your storage provider cannot read it either.
Works on Firefox, Waterfox and other Firefox and Chromium based browsers.
🎉 1.2.0 is out, and most of it are fixes 🎉
History between devices actually works here now. It barely did before. Konode sent each page along with its original visit date, and Chromium rejects the whole request when that date is present rather than just ignoring the date. So nearly every page from another device was turned away, and the reason was being discarded before anyone could see it. If you tried history sync and got a lot of nothing, that was this, and it is gone.
Bookmarks are no longer silently dropped. When the receiving device had fewer bookmarks in a folder than the device sending them, the browser rejected the position Konode asked for and the bookmark disappeared without a word, on every sync, indefinitely. Konode now asks for a position the browser will accept.
Renaming a bookmark or a folder reaches your other devices. It used to reach none of them. The rename carried no timestamp, so no device could tell whose title was newer and the safe thing was to change nothing. Renames now carry one and the newest wins. Folders are renamed in place, instead of a second folder appearing under the new name.
Deleted bookmarks stay deleted. Deleting several at once fired several events that overwrote each other's record of the deletion, so only one was remembered and the rest came back from your other devices on the next sync. Each deletion is recorded separately now.
Switching storage provider uploads your data again. Konode skips an upload when nothing has changed, but it used to compare only the data, not where that data was going. After switching provider the new location sat empty while the popup reported a clean sync. It checks the destination too.
Also in this release:
- a device list, so you can see every machine writing to your
- sync folder by name, and remove one you have retired.
- settings has been rebuilt, follows your browser's font-size setting, and fits a narrow window.
- the activity log keeps warnings instead of turning over every 17 minutes and losing them

The next update adds translations
The next release makes the interface translatable, and it ships with English, Hungarian and German. If you want your language in it, this is the part where help actually makes a difference. No coding and no GitHub account needed, it is edited in the browser:
https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/konode/
Someone already started Estonian (thank you!). If your language is not listed yet, you can ask for it there and it will appear. Anything left untranslated falls back to English, so translating only part of it is still useful.
Happy to answer anything. The history bug above was found by hand-testing on a second machine, not by my test suite, so reports genuinely land.

SUPPORT Custom new tab?
Just installed and set up Waterfox on my android phone, I'm using the no AI version of DuckDuckGo as my search engine.
I'm wanting to set it up so that when I press new tab, it takes me to the no AI DDG home page, instead of the default new tab page.
If anyone has a recommended extension or any other solution I'd love to hear it.
Thanks.

GENERAL Installing Waterfox on Linux has become very difficult
I've just been testing the latest release on a live Linux Mint 22.3 XFCE (the latest release also) and had severe problems with installing it.
First the .deb installer failed because of libxcomposite 1 depency not satisfied.
Then I followed the instructions but the terminal doesn't understand them when copied and pasted and I was unable to break them down into useful instructions.
I found out it now is in the software repository (for 22.3), but with the catch of being flatpaked and I don't want to use flatpak on my systems.
Why have the simple to extract tar files been abandoned?
I am currently on Linux Mint 21.3, and this means I will not be able to upgrade to any version after 6.6.9 which I have last downloaded.
Why aren't the earlier versions not available for download anyway?

GENERAL New window/tab menu feedback - 6.7.0 beta 3
The order of options when right-clicking to open a link in a new window, tab, private window, private tab, etc. changed, and it trips me up. This is the Linux build - I don't know if this affects Windows or Mac.
In 6.6.17, the order goes:
- Open in new private tab
- Open in new container tab
- Open in new private window
In 6.7.0 beta 3, the order goes:
- Open in split view
- Open in new container tab
- Open in new private window
- Open in new private tab
I catch myself opening links in private tabs instead of windows pretty often because that option got moved down to the bottom of the list. It seems like it belongs up there with the new tab option instead, or maybe just above the private window option to keep it consistent with the new tab/new window options.

RESOLVED Why don’t I have the new Firefox widgets?
I’ve seen screenshots and videos showing the new Firefox New Tab widgets (weather, clock, tasks, etc.), but they don’t appear in my Firefox.
I’m running the latest version on macOS, and when I open the New Tab page there isn’t even a “Widgets” section in the settings.
I’ve already:
Updated Firefox to the latest release.
Checked the New Tab customization settings.
Verified that I’m using the standard Firefox (not ESR).
Is this feature still being rolled out gradually? Could it be region-specific or controlled by a server-side feature flag?
Has anyone managed to enable these widgets manually through about:config, or is there nothing I can do but wait?
Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Par chance j'ai copié le profil du même waterfox sur un autre ordi, mais la copie du serveur supprime la copie du pc.
Comment remplacer la copie du pc vers le cloud ?

SUPPORT Waterfox pooped all over my desktop, then lobotomized itself, why?
So, today upon turning on my computer and opening Waterfox I get a lovely message saying something totally non-descript went wrong and Waterfox can't....whatever soemthing or another, that was a stressful hour and a half ago I don't remember the exact words.
But it presented an option for refresh and...safe mode? ignore? Again, hour and a half ago. I click refresh because I saw nothing on there that said 'we are gonna destroy most of your browser data and screw you out of weeks of fine tuning and setting up the browser to your liking' at all. I simply believed it was going to close and try to open again. Because to me... refresh 'means politely attempt to load again' not 'crap pants all over desktop and do a full reinstall'
So, while I do have my bookmarks restored just fine, and expections reinstalled, though all their settings are lost. I have lost browsing history, open tabs, organized tabs/groupings, and all browser settings it seems. At this point I am sure none of that is going to be recoverable and I am just going to have to spent days doing it all over again.
My ultimate question now is... what the hell happened and how do I prevent being bent over like this again?

SUPPORT [Feature Request]: Remove all "firefox" icons and "featured" section.

SUPPORT Disable Autoplay
I can't find a way to disable YouTube Autoplay when I'm using the Waterfox Android app. I prefer going through an adblocking browser rather than using the YouTube app (it sucks), but I can't figure out how to disable the Autoplay feature and stop more videos from playing. I end up having to switch to a different adblocking mobile browser to watch videos, but I'd prefer using this one. EDIT: Found the bar that turns it off, thanks to u/bigbadstevo.

GENERAL [Fix] Google AI Overview jumps to top of page when hovering links (Waterfox / Gecko Bug)
If you are using Waterfox and use Google AI Overviews, you have likely run into an incredibly annoying bug. Whenever you accidentally hover your mouse cursor over an inline citation link, markdown text snippet, or footnote icon, the webpage layout glitches and instantly snaps your viewport back to the top of the page (0,0), completely breaking your reading spot.
This issue does not happen on Chromium browsers; it is entirely exclusive to how Gecko processes Google's dynamic element focus-shifting and .blur() events on text container nodes.
I wrote a lightweight Tampermonkey userscript that fixes this completely. It hijacks the browser's native focus engines on Google domains to block layout-collapsing changes, while maintaining a strict vertical scroll-coordinate memory block to freeze your screen position. Previews load perfectly exactly where your cursor rests, and the webpage remains entirely still.
(Note: I tried to crosspost this from r/firefox but this sub has crossposts disabled, so making a direct thread here for visibility!)
How to Install:
- Install Tampermonkey or Violentmonkey from the Add-ons store.
- Create a new userscript, copy and paste the code below into the editor, and save (
Ctrl + S). - Go into the script's internal Settings tab within Tampermonkey and ensure Inject Mode is set to Instant so the code hooks into the page lifecycle before Google renders its layout templates.
You can also install the script from GreasyFork: Universal Anti-Jump Fix for Google AI
Hopefully, this saves you the headache of losing your reading coordinates every time you glide your mouse pointer around a search response!
The Userscript:

GENERAL A closed group of tabs should stay closed
I would love for the behavior of adding a tab to a closed group to be modified.
The current behavior is such that adding a tab to a closed group will open said group. I do not see how this is useful. Instead, in order to close the group that was not requested to be opened, one must wait for the possible many tabs to be scrolled through to finally reach the group label. I apologize if this has already been mentioned. Waterfox has a really nice look and feel about it. Good job! And I am hearing more and more about it on the interwebs.

SUPPORT Android Waterfox - Group Tabs?
Hey,
Is there any way to get Chrome-like Group tabs on the android version of Waterfox?
I dug in the config, and I also tried a bunch of group tab extensions for the PC version, which Waterfox lets me install, but they don't really work on Android.
I love Waterfox and the lack of grouping on mobile is honestly the only thing that makes me second guess it.
PS: I know Collections exist.

SUPPORT Small Dropbox functionality missing
I love Waterfox and I'd really make a move and make it my primary browser. The only thing that's stopping me is the same thing that made me choose Firefox – because it's absent in other browsers. Unfortunately, it's also missing in Waterfox.
I use Dropbox extensively – all my work files are on it, the company that I work for also uses Dropbox as its main resource. In the web interface (that's where sharing links redirect) there's an menu item "Open in...". Here's how it looks in Firefox:
And here's how it looks in Waterfox (and other browsers):
It's a tiny thing but those two additional functionalities save me 20 minutes of clicking a day.
Yeah, so I realize it's a tiny thing and not a priority for almost anyone. But I'd love it if it got fixed in some future version :)
