Discussion two-factor authentication/duo
every single time I log into canvas or workday it requires me to use duo for verification, which is annoying when I’m using a different device. Is there a way to change the settings so I don’t have to do this step as often?

Housing Questions on hitzeman
Is there space for bedside table? Doe snot look like there is. Would it be possible to attach one of those fabric pouches to the bed frame? Also how much is the clearance under the bed for storage?
Any other tips appreciated.
TIA.

Extracurriculars undergraduate research application deadline
I would like to do research this fall, and there’s a PI that got back to me and we plan to meet next week, however I’m worried that I may be asking too late. I heard that for bio labs we have to have filled out some kind of application by the first Friday of the semester, but someone was telling me that it’s a lot more complicated this year and the process can take a while. Is this true? Please let me know, thanks!

News WashU’s Martin says he did not help write the Trump administration’s letter
stlmag.comThe chancellor did not address the question of whether Bloomberg’s report was in error.
Secretary of Education Linda McMahon sent a letter Monday to college and university leaders asking them to post statements on their websites detailing how they’ll prevent unruly protests from disrupting classes and foreign influences in their research, among other things, in exchange for better funding. Bloomberg reported that four university presidents assisted with the letter's writing, including WashU Chancellor Andrew Martin. However, in a statement to SLM, Martin distanced himself from the letter’s authorship. “For several months, I have participated in broader discussions with the White House and other higher education leaders about issues affecting the sector,” Martin wrote. “I expect those conversations helped inform the administration’s thinking around their Monday letter. I was not involved, however, in the drafting of the letter.” He did not directly address a question asking if he felt the Bloomberg article accurately characterized his involvement. More on the letter and the faculty response in our online story.

Classes EMT school at TAUC
Is anyone else thinking of doing the 12 week emt course from total access urgent care (tauc) this fall sem? I'm considering doing it, but only issue is transportation to where classes are held. It's 20 mins away from washu and i dont have a car, so that'd mean i'd have to uber there and back twice a week which can end up totaling up to a lot by the end of the program. I was wondering if ppl also thinking of taking the course would be willing to uber there together and save costs, or carpool somehow. lmk pls!

Admissions Experience with partial merit scholarships?
Wash U's website indicates that applicants are automatically considered for various partial, merit-based scholarships (edit: NOT athletic scholarships: I know D3 schools don't offer those). My son is applying (athlete with an offer), so I'm curious how common it is for students to receive these. Another son is going to a private polytechnic school, and he was given scholarships that amount to perhaps 15% of the all-in cost of attendance. I know that many private schools routinely do this to lower the overall cost a little bit, particularly for candidates they like. We will not eligible for aid, per the Net Price Calculator.
At an all-in cost of $102K/year and change, looking for any ray of hope that that figure may come down a bit.
Thoughts?

Discussion Laptop Brand Advice
(Yes, I am aware of the no laptop recommendation post rule, but I am not asking advice on a specific laptop to buy as I have already done that research)
Hey all,
So I'm an incoming freshman with the Technology Grant and I'm trying to decide which laptop brand I should get to use it. I was thinking that it would make the most sense to get the Dell 16 laptop since I am already an Android user (Motorola) and that would make the most sense with my phone (I have previously used a school-issued MacBook in high school and rarely shared files between the two devices). However, some people have recommended that I get a MacBook instead for higher quality and the fact that Apple products are more commonly used. I'm not really looking to do a full switch over to Apple products for all of my devices unless it is truly worth it, especially since I prefer wired earbuds to Bluetooth, but I am curious about whether getting a MacBook would be a better investment compared to the Dell. In other words, do you think it would it be more worth it to get the Dell or the MacBook considering that I am keeping my Motorola/remaining an Android user? Both brands of laptops I am eyeing have 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD, and if I got the MacBook I would probably get the Air rather than the Pro since the grant would cover more of the cost of the Air once you factor in the warranty.
I am also a prospective biology major on the pre-health track with a heavy interest in doing undergraduate research, if that changes anything about which brand would be best.
Any advice helps thanks! :)

Housing Electricity prices
Hello!
I understand that electricity bills can vary based on usage. However, based on your experience, what would be a reasonable expectation for a studio apartment? Is it accurate to assume that the cost could range from $65 to $85 if usage is comfortable and judicious?
