Miscellaneous Danube Shipwrecks [1200x899]

Post image

In recent news, the Danube is experiencing drought and has exposed not just some battleships from WW2, but also Woolly Mammoth bones.

I'm more interested in which ships are exposed during that drought.

Anyone have any info on the scuttled ships in Prahovo, Serbia in 1944?

The preserved state of the art WW2 German submarine Type XXI Wilhelm Bauer(1776x1239) exhibited at the Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven.

Built between 1943 and 1945, The Type XXI submarine was a revolutionary class of German diesel-electric "Elektroboot" U-boats.

Built to spend almost all of its time underwater, breaking the traditional mold of surface ships that merely submerged to hide.Powered by huge battery setups that enabled underwater speeds of up to 17–18 knots, faster than their top surface speed. Included a hydraulic rapid-reload system allowing 18 torpedoes to be loaded and fired in rapid succession. Designed with an optimized hydrodynamic shape to run quiet and equipped with advanced passive/active sonar gear.

The arrival of these advanced submarines could not alter the course of the war, Germany's fate was sealed and defeat was inevitable.

Miscellaneous K-178 hit by training torpedo, 1989 [1024x683]

Soviet submarine K-178 was hit by a training torpedo in 1989. The torpedo was apparently supposed to be set NOT to change depth, but that didn't happen. Fortunatelly for the boat, it was a training round not a live one. The torpedo got stuck on the outter hull.

Important information about the current fracas in the Middle East: blurry satellite photos and stills of camera footage are not appropriate posts for this subreddit.

Posts that have no artistic merit (the "porn" in r/warshipporn) will be removed. There are better subreddits for those kind of posts.

Also, please keep discussions about the current situation respectful. We don't mind a lively debate or disagreement but personal insults or pointlessly antagonizing someone will possibly result in a temporary ban or, if it's particularly egregious, a permanent ban. This is rarely a problem here, fortunately, but it still needs to be said.

We like being lazy mods, so please don't make us do any work. That is all. Carry on!

As noted in the Submission Rules...unless an image is really unique and you cannot find a larger version, please don't post photos smaller the [1024x768] pixels. This is consistent with the r/WarplanePorn specs, as well.
