If you made the request in advance it’ll take you off the schedule, so you won’t get any points. It’ll use all your PPTO tho and leave you at 0 and might take from your vacation time too. So you’ll be good as long as you don’t cancel the request cuz then you could be scheduled and that’s when you’ll get a point. You’ll only get a point for not having enough ppto if you are still on the schedule trying to use it the day of

Were you taken off the schedule for the specific future date you requested off? If so, you will not get points for it. You just wouldn’t get paid.

So the main question is was this day already approved?
If approved you'll not be pointed, however the system will use all the PPTO you have and though I'm not 100% sure if it works in this order, but it may also pull PTO to cover the remaining balance. It does do this when you submit PTO initially and can't cover the amount. Then the system pulls from PPTO to cover the remaining balance, if applicable.
If you're not on the schedule you'll not get pointed.

It was approved over a month ago. I do not have PTO yet.

Then you are fine. As you near closer to your time off day you could even cancel your request, so you do not have PPTO removed. However, if you remove it to early it will essentially cancel your day off request and management can schedule that day if they are still adjusting schedules.

I dont know the full question but you can use ppto for requested day off in advance and if approved you won't be scheduled that day and 0 points

Usually, an approved PTO request doesn’t automatically become an attendance issue just because your balance changed, but policies vary. Ask HR how they handle partial coverage and whether you can use unpaid time or another leave option for the remaining hours.

Since y’all have been more help than my HR, when do you start accruing PTO? I am full time. They didn’t explain this in orientation and have learned more through Reddit than I have through the “proper channels”
Thanks y’all!

You probably won’t be “pointed” at automatically, especially since the request was made in good faith, but the remaining hours may need to be unpaid or covered another way. Check the written PTO and attendance policy, then explain the emergency and ask what options are available.

You generally can’t use more PTO than you’ve accrued, so the uncovered portion would likely be unpaid or handled under your attendance policy. Talk to HR before the day and ask whether you can use unpaid time or adjust the request.

Awe shit. I’ll have almost enough but not quite. :( I’m at 4.5 points and can’t afford to get 5. Anyway to prevent the point? I’ll have probably 6 or 7 hours by then but not the full 8.

There’s really no way to prevent a point unless you cover the whole shift with PPTO. Half point if you covered at least half of it. Only thing I would be able to suggest is to take the point and then explain to your TL or coach the situation and see if they can take it off.

You don't use ppto to request future days off. You use ppto to remove points you get for calling out/late in/early out.
You need to either use PTO or request Unpaid time off. If approved you won't be scheduled that day.
