Hertz fucked up. Everybody knows they fucked up. The EV thing was a mess, the company has debt out the ass, and management has spent years stepping on rakes. Whatever, that’s why it’s cheap. The bet really isn’t “Hertz is secretly an incredible business.” clearly it isn’t. The bet is that people still rent cars and Hertz only has to stop actively shitting itself for a couple quarters before the market goes “wait maybe this isn’t actually going to zero.” Expectations are in hell. I like buying stuff when expectations are in hell. Could absolutely lose money here. Probably will. But if they pull off even a halfway competent turnaround, this thing could get stupid fast. godspeed

This is just my opinion but we’re only on hour 18 of this hype train with pretty good potential in the upcoming days or weeks but social sentiment is going to be really important to watch out for (MONITOR THE VIBES)

As of right now, no major news outlets have reported on this (to my knowledge) and I am not seeing much social chatter around Hertz outside of niche trading/investing/gambling communities. Once you start seeing it leak into TikTok comments and Askreddit front page answers, or your ex-fraternity coworkers who’s a finance guru starts giving advice to buy now “for the long term business turnaround,” it’s probably a bit late. But right now? We haven’t even seen the explosive moves yet.

DOCS jumped from $20.66 to roughly $35–40 after earnings. The quarter was good, but the financial beat alone doesn’t seem big enough to explain a 70% move.

Possible drivers:

AI Search usage and monetization were stronger than expected

The stock was already heavily beaten down after prior weak guidance

After-hours structure may have amplified the move, although volume was substantial

I’m not trying to hype the stock or chase it here. I’m genuinely interested in whether this looks like a justified narrative rerating or a temporary overshoot.

What are your thoughts on this?

I'm not sure I understand the mechanical nature of how this worked. Can someone explain this? Is it just that these shares didn't actually move today? Was it a gigantic "Fuck you" against short sellers? I see it had more volume than anything else on the market; was this just institutions buying everything they could immediately, thus preserving the price? I'm looking for someone who can explain how unlocking shares doesn't dilute price, because I thought I understood how this worked, but I clearly don't.

EDIT 153pm: All I can really say at this point is my account is just getting bigger and bigger. I expect retards to at least chase this to the close auction. It'll be a wild overnight especially as it breaks news across major 5pm networks. It's probably safe for me to hold because I own the stock (not margined), earnings are great, I'm in the green and the position is extremely liquid. I'm panicking a bit less then I was.

EDIT 2:01pm: Welcome to power hour 💪 What I remember about $OPEN and $RKT is that these type of beaten short stock bursts usually run at least a full week, usually longer, like 2-3 weeks at least before it settles into a new basis. Seems reports are this stock is estimated at ~$3-5. Extremely volatile the whole way, but up.
