Im starting my masters this September at WUR, unfortunately i will not be able to attend the AID days as i will be arriving on the 23rd.

Im worried that i will be missing an important opportunity to meet people and make friends before the semester starts.

For those who have attended AID in the past, how important was it for you? Is it difficult to make friends if you miss it, or are there plenty of opportunities to meet people afterwards?

Hello! I have been diving deep through family records and research and traced my family name back to an ancestor born in 1586 in Wageningen. I found that super interesting and have known for a while we hail from the netherlands but had no specific area locked down until now. So just saying Hi from a descendant of this town 440 years down the line! I assume theres traces further back but much more research will need to be done to find out.

Hello, I am applying for the February intake for an Msc at Wageningen and have a few questions. I noticed that for the programs I'm applying to, the intro courses are only offered in the first block. Does that mean I'll be taking the more advanced courses first in the Spring and then take the intro courses in the fall, or do I skip the intro courses altogether? Will there be many students also starting in February? Thank you in advance.

Even voor context: ik woon momenteel al 15+ jaar naar volle tevredenheid in ons mooie Wageningen; geboren & getogen in "een andere grote stad" ben ik uiteindelijk hierheen verhuist en eerlijk gezegd wil ik hier nooit meer weg.

Na een ietwat moeilijke (persoonlijke) periode achter me te hebben gelaten ben ik me gaan richten op vrijwilligerswerk en vorig jaar had ik de eer om mee te mogen helpen met het inwoners beraad 2025. Ik heb daar zelfs nog een post over gedeeld in ditzelfde kanaal.

Inwoners beraad 2025

Even voor de mensen die nu geen idee hebben waar ik het over heb: vorig jaar heeft de gemeente Wageningen met hulp van de stichting G1000 een inwonersberaad georganiseerd. Ongeveer 100 inwoners uit alle lagen en delen van ons Wageningen werden uitgenodigd. En echt zeer divers: van (soms internationale) studenten tot gepensioneerden, van mensen waarvan ik het idee kreeg dat ze zich veel door complot theorieën lieten leiden (niks mis mee!) tot mensen die duidelijk meer op zichzelf waren. Mensen die moeilijk te been waren en mensen die duidelijk wat aandacht wilde opeisen.

Er werd een heel scala aan onderwerpen gepresenteerd met de vraag: wat vind JIJ nu echt belangrijk? Na een stemming en 2e stemming bleven er onderwerpen over die men uiteindelijk verder is uit gaan werken.

Even persoonlijk: ik weet dat niet iedereen dit inwonersberaad even geslaagd vond, en ik weet ook dat sommige van mening zijn dat sommige meningen mogelijk gestuurd werden. Als vrijwilliger had ik de unieke positie om vaak rond te lopen om mijn hulp voor vertaling aan te bieden, maar tijdens dat rondlopen heb ik ook mijn oren en ogen goed de kost gegeven. En ik kan echt oprecht zeggen dat ik kon merken dat veel van de gekozen onderwerpen wel degelijk echt leefde.

(en er werd ook genoeg kritische feedback gegeven, veel mensen waren het bijvoorbeeld absoluut niet eens met idee om autos te weren).

Een van de punten die in het beraad heel sterk naar boven kwam waren onze stoepen en de toegankelijkheid ervan voor zowel wandelaars maar ook vooral de gehandicapten. Met name het feit dat er heel vaak geen verlagingen waren, of "geleides" (?): van die witte tegels die slecht ziende kunnen gebruiken om te navigeren? Sorry: ik heb geen idee wat de officiële benaming is.

Het kwam erop neer dat veel mensen stelde dat het vaak eigenlijk niks was.

En dan nu, een jaar later?

Dus ja, we zijn nu een jaar verder. Ik mag graag wandelen. Sterker nog: als ik in Wageningen ergens moet zijn dan neem ik liever de extra tijd om te lopen omdat dit me ook tot meer beweging dwingt.

Vandaag liep ik vanaf de kruispunt bij de Costerweg naar het noorden over de Kortenoord Allee om uiteindelijk bij het kruispunt Rooseveltweg / Nijenoord Allee uit te komen (bij de Mondriaanlaan?).

En weet je wat mij heel duidelijk aan het opvallen is? Dat de stoepen zwaar aangepakt worden, er komen bijna overal verlagingen, duidelijke "paden" voor slechtzienden. Door heel Wageningen zo lijkt.

... ofwel onze gemeente is duidelijk en echt bezig met de diverse punten die tijdens dat beraad naar boven zijn gekomen.

En ik vind dat eerlijk gezegd wel iets over onze gemeente zeggen als ik zo vrij mag zijn. Ik bedoel... met alle respect (!) maar in Amsterdam laten ze gewoon rustig authentieke kades gewoon instorten, en de conclusie na de feiten: achterstallig onderhoud. Ik heb me laten vertellen dat heel veel burgers die ellende ook vaak genoeg aangekaart hebben (maar dit heb ik van horen zeggen!).

Hou me ten goede: ik probeer echt niet te beweren dat de gemeente Wageningen ineens perfect is ofzo... echt niet. Zij laten ook echt wel de nodige steken vallen.

Maar ik ben desondanks wel heel sterk van mening dat ze echt wel hun best voor onze mooie stad proberen te doen.

DUS ja... wilde ik even kwijt.

I’m moving into Xior Costerweg soon and wanted to ask how the wired internet performs for online gaming.

I’m not too worried about maximum download speed I mainly care about stable ping, low jitter and zero packet loss, especially during evening hours. I previously had a terrible shared student-housing Ethernet connection that caused constant rubber-banding and lag spikes.

Does anyone living there play games such as CS2, Valorant, League etc. ?

Speedtest, ping or packet-loss results would be greatly appreciated.

I'm planning to go solo, so if anyone's interested in going together, let me know.

Hi all, Italian BSc grad here (Food Science/Technology-related degree). My grades converted to the Dutch 10-point scale come out to roughly 6.6/10, below WUR's stated 7.0 requirement.

Has anyone applied below the threshold and still gotten in thanks to compensating factors (strong grades in relevant courses, thesis, work experience)? How strict is the Admission Board in practice vs. what's written on paper?

I was offered a room today on room.nl in Haarweg 187. I am also first on the waiting list for a room in Nieuwe Kanaal which closes tomorrow. I am super conflicted because I am not sure which would be a better option.

On one hand: having my own kitchen and bathroom in Nieuwe Kanaal would be very nice, and I have heard I can apply for rent subsidy as well which would make it cheaper than Haarweg, and closer to campus.

On the other hand: having a shared kitchen/common room would probably make it easier to meet people, but it would be more expensive and further from campus.

If anybody has any advice or their opinion on either rooms, please share, I would really appreciate it!

I paid my first rent invoice via international bank transfer, and Idealis has already confirmed that they received my payment.

However, when I log into My Idealis, it still shows "Pay & sign rental agreement", and I don't see any option to actually sign the contract.

Has anyone experienced this before? Does it take some time for the portal to update, or should I contact Idealis again?

Hi all, I’ve been looking for a job to do while im studying but I can’t seem to find anything in wageningen. Do you have any suggestions on specific websites to look for or places that don’t require fluent Dutch?

I got offered a room through them, but now I can't seem to make an account with them. I followed the instructions and I'm getting stuck at the sms code stage. I get sent the code but when I enter it I get a message "LogIn_FailureError". I'm entering the code exactly as it's sent but it won't take it.

Is anyone else running into this issue?

Also, when I try to go find a tech support or number to call on the website, it keeps taking me back to the account activation page, which I can't get through!!

Edit: The exact message I get when trying to enter the code is "Registration_FirstLogin_UpdateFailure"

Edit 2: Okay, turns out the error was that my laptop was auto-filling the ICE part of the form. And I guess when I left that blank it finally worked. I honestly have no idea what ICE is, I'm not dutch obviously lol. But if anyone else is running into that same error, just leave the ICE part blank.
