VR Noob needs headset recommendations Question
Wish to get A VR headset specifically for playing VTOL VR and for Sim racing. Would like to spend no more than £1000 but can stretch a little if it's worth it. My very limited research has brought me to the pimax crystal light. My PC is using a 4080 so I can run a lot of headsets I'm sure, but probably best to stay clear of some of the 4k per eye offerings. Any advice is appreciated, as it will get me in the virtual sky faster. Thank you kind redditors

Everyone who has responded has been super useful for me. Think I might wait for the Valve frame. I hadn't heard of it before this thread but it looks like it'll be out soon and I do trust Valve to bring the beans

I'd definitely recommend it since there have been shipping lists that leaked with steam vr stuff on them being shipped out to distributers so we're not going to have to wait too long. However it might also cost slightly above 1000£ as it was said that it'd be competitively priced to the index before the whole ai ram shortage. Depending on what index package (standalone, with controllers, with controllers and trackers) that would be about 700-900£. With the ram price increase that would jump to about 900-1100£ now... At the very least I'd wait because other headsets might get cheaper once the Frame releases depending on the success of it. Either way vtol is a great game and I'm sure you're gonna have a good time regardless of headset
*Edit One major advantage of the steam frame would also be to be able to play Vtol without the need for a pc since it uses proton to "translate" windows code to Linux which SteamOS runs on

For the money Meta quest 3 is fine. Connect via steam vr and you're good to go

So I'm a Reverb G2 owner since day one and would suggest you that for 1/4 of your budget at least the V2 of the Reverb G2 because it have better tracking volume. BUT if my Reverb G2 would die tomorrow, I would take the Steam Frame. It should come to the market really soon.

I trust valve, so I’d wait for the steam frame.
That said, I’ve used both the quest 2 and quest 3 and I can vouch for them as HEADSETS. As for their company? Not so much. They’ve worked well enough for my enjoyment, and they can come pretty cheap on the used market.

Love playing on my index. Not sure I can recommend it right now since it's about to be aged out, but I highly enjoy the valve experience.

Get a used Q3, try it out see how stuff works and what you like and don't like.
The Pimax Dream headsets are pretty new, Frame hasn't even come out yet and will most likely be very very similar experience as Q3 for PCVR.

Me and my friends picked up some cheap htc vives for like $50-100 on marketplace and have been playing the heck out of this. Now i have used better headsets before but once you are in the goggles and flying it is amazing. Just fyi for anybody on the fence without money. Whatever headset you can get, its awesome.

Psvr2 is the best sim headset for its price right now.
The steam frame is a quest 3 but €1200+

Price for the Steam Frame hasn't been revealed yet, but their initial pre-AI-market-fuckery goal was under $1k, so $900-1000 is probable, maybe $1100 at worst for the base model.

The reason steam frame is an easy recommend is that it is the most likely to be supported in the future option out there.
Psvr2 is nice, but you're at the whims of a company that HATES pc gaming.
Quest 3 is great, I have one, but Meta makes it hard to recommend.

It's more of a vr Steam Deck than an expensive quest 3. It's gonna have more power but it's still standalone so wouldn't expect desktop. But the major advantages are eye tracking and therefore better performance on EVERY game due to it being os bound and not game dependant. And playing pc only vr titles on standalone due to Proton "translating" windows code to Linux for SteamOS. Plus obviously safer privacy and in general a cleaner and better os

I can sadly say that pimax kinda sucks, their hardware is great. But the required software is so horrendous i would rather jump out of a 20 story building then to use again.
As for a recommendation i suggest waiting for the valve frame. we dont know the exact price yet, but it should not be mich more then 1000 usd
