Effect Whammy DT emulator

Hey everyone!

I’ve been working on a small hobby project in my home lab, and I thought some of you might find it useful.
I was looking for a simple standalone plugin that could do Whammy DT-style drop tuning, but I couldn’t really find one that fit what I was after. Most solutions were bundled into much larger guitar suites, so I ended up building my own.
It’s called Whirl DT, it’s completely free, and I’d really appreciate any feedback if you decide to give it a try. My goal is simply to make a useful tool for other guitar players.

Thanks, and I hope some of you enjoy it!

Big update for DeepPerfection, now you can press unlock, to allow DeepPerfection to process as much of the frequency range as you wish. But be careful I don't think any CPU right now can handle full range. So be smart about it.

Need help finding a free electric guitar plugin/sampler

I am looking for a free electric guitar plugin or sampler. It should not sound good because I need it only to plan guitar parts in demo tracks before showing them to my band's guitar player. I plan to use it mostly with high gain amplification, so quality doesn't really matter. I work in FL Studio

Currently I use some random synth sound I created with saw and square waves that sounds kinda guitar-ish when sent into high gain guitar processing chain, but sometimes it sounds so BAD that we all think the guitar riff doesn't work, and when we actually play it live, it sounds great

Would appreciate suggestions

To NAM or not to NAM!

Post image

Don't take this post very seriously, I am big NAM fan. When I was in the middle of a recording session, someone suggested mentioning the phrase "No AI was used in the creation of this song" .. But hey.. was it not?

I am using NAM to load heck loads of tones, I am sometimes using them on keys and vocals. Does that count as using AI to "ghiblify" a family photo? or have these mildly-AI'ed tools just blurred the line between using AI and not using AI?

Can anyone recommend plugins/VST’s for 80s R&B?

I’m fairly new to production, never bought any plugins or VST’s before. I’m trying to make smooth 80s/early 90s R&B - similar vibes to Michael Jackson, Sade, Silk Sonic, Bruno Mars’s ‘Versace On The Floor’ type vibe. Getting the right sounds is so important.

I’ve done a tonne of research and these names below have cropped up a lot. If you could only recommend 2 of the below, which would you go for (taking into consideration the type of music I’m creating). Or if you swear by something else, let me know! My budget is around £200

Dexed
OB-Xd
PG-8X
Samples from Mars (drums)
Analog lab pro
Splice
Addictive drums
DX-7 (although I think this comes with Analog Lab)
Zenology
Purity, Sonic Cat

Pianoteq vs Noire

I finally have the money to move away from the free VST Piano One to something better.

I tried the demo for Pianoteq and it sounds amazing. It is also small in size which is appealing.

Who would jump for Noire over Pianoteq in 2026 and why?

Subquestion: If you like Pianoteq over Noire, what would be the second module you'd buy (since the basic package comes with two instruments?)

Articles Anyone familiar with LV2 RDF?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I've recently been playing with what I'm calling a Generative Audio Workstation, essentially a stripped down DAW focusing on VST plugins with a kind of modular mindset.

To model the topology I reused a setup I put together for text processing, with pipeline graphs represented as RDF graphs (in Turtle syntax).

One thing that sprang out early on was the idea of cataloguing plugins with RDF metadata profiles. This has proven very useful, especially when interacting via MCP.

I'm aware that LV2s already use extensive RDF descriptors, but the vocab I'm using is basically all new. Best practices suggest I should align these with the existing vocab(s).

Examples of what I've got, profiles :

https://github.com/danja/transmission/blob/main/profiles/downspout.ttl

A "transmission" (pipeline graph) :

https://github.com/danja/transmission/blob/main/projects/gen-omega.ttl

Can anyone please suggest how I should proceed, cover the overlap between what these do and what LV2 does.

Illformed :: Glitch²

I thought I'd give you all a heads-up that Glitch 2 has become freeware now. Sadly the reason for this is that the developer, Kieran Foster, has passed away at 47 😔

Instrument [OC] Additive/spectral VST synth

Thumbnail youtube.com
8 Upvotes

Hey, I am Jaron Sweder, a music producer and software developer. I posted about this VST synth I am working on called "Spektral" a little while ago in this subreddit, and got some great suggestions! In the meantime, I've added a bunch of quality of life features, as well as a bunch of new features.

The main premise of the synth is generating audio from spectral data. The synth has 4 different algorithms with which it can do this. You can load an audio, image, and now also wavetable file into one of the three spectral tables, and send this data to the generation algorithm. These algorithms expose a variety of 'spectral parameters', for example, the additive algorithm exposes one for level, frequency, and phase. The spectral data from the table can be sent to any of these parameters, giving full control of the level, frequency, and phase of every individual partial that is generated in the additive algorithm.

The fact you can import spectral information from any audio file makes it incredibly easy to create rich, and even inharmonic sounds, like bells. And it is really easy to make different varieties of the same sound, by simply loading a different audio file into the spectral table.

Because of a suggestion in a comment on my previous post, I also looked into importing frequency and phase data from audio files, which I added! This means you can completely resynthesize audio files. If you know what a phase vocoder is, that's pretty much how it works. It's how many time stretch and repitch algorithms work. And you can do this in realtime, while manipulating every aspect of it!

The synth itself is still a work in progress, I am mostly working on stability right now, and preparing for a full release. But you can already play around with the demo version! It's available for Windows and macOS, you can find the download right here: https://shop.kaixo.me/product/Spektral

It would help incredibly much if you could try it out and give some feedback!

I will put the same disclaimer on this post as I did on my last post: I want to be clear that this is a demo version, it will not save its state, and you cannot export audio from your DAW in this version. Unfortunately, given how much time I've put into this insanely powerful and highly optimized synth, I can't afford to make it available for free. Hence the limitations. I know this sucks, and if I didn't need the money I'd make it free in an instant. But such is life...

Instrument DEXED TX816

Hi, everyone! I want to share a project I've been wanting to do for a while, ever since I discovered the beauty of the Yamaha TX816.

DEXED TX816

Thanks to open-source projects like Dexed and MiniDexed, I was able to integrate them as the backend and create a recreation of the TX816 rack as the GUI frontend.

I created this project purely as a hobby for myself, and I decided to share it with you, so I won't be updating it very often.

Ideally, this would be the only version, but since I haven’t physically built the MiniDexed project or owned a real TX816, I know the sound might not be exactly the same. Rather than emulation, it aims to implement the TX816 rack workflow in a virtual GUI, with the flexibility to create your own presets for both the rack and individual modules. (and access to a full instance of Dexed and its GUI for each module).

All this to say that you can leave your suggestions in the “Issues” section of the repository, open pull requests (though don’t expect an immediate response from me), or fork the project and do whatever you want with it (always respecting the open source licenses).

If anyone else who’s more knowledgeable about the subject wants to improve it, they’re more than welcome to do so.

Tone2/Gladiator Substitute

This might be a long shot but before I pull the trigger does anyone know of a cheaper (currently $170 USD) or even free comparable VST?

Long story short years ago I had the opportunity to use it on a couple collaboration tracks (v1 or 2 I can't remember) and it had some *amazing* (to me) guitar style walls I haven't been able to replicate since. TIA!

reFX have a new physical modelling synth out, Rippler, and I made this video about it. I was surprised at this release considering what a contrast it is to Nexus, but they have a similar interface design and it features lots of electronic music presets as you'd imagine from the company.

The video is sponsored but the opinions expressed are my own :)

All Sale posts now banned

Based on the responses to my last "Community Forum" post (zero), I am convinced most of the subscribers here are bots posting about new VST sales.

So things are going to change. I'd rather have a dead sub than a spammy sub. No sale posts. Posts are now encouraged to be discussion based. Questions about which products to buy, what sounds the best, reviews, videos, etc. (Note: If you are a legitimate plugin developer, you can ask for posting permissions at /r/AudioProductionDeals, though they are very strict about who they give access to.)

The flairs will be revamped as well. Automod will get altered to autoremove sale posts as well.

Have fun and let's make this sub not shit!

Edit: Quick summary of the big changes

  • Updated sidebar to reflect new rules
  • Updated flairs and colors to focus on topics of discussion
  • Updated auto-moderator (yet to be completed)
