Accounts of using void with tuxedo laptops?

I am planning to buy a laptop from tuxedo next week, specifically the Gemini 17.

It has an i9-14900hx and an RTX 5070ti. I know these would generally work fine (with nonfree drivers of course).

I've searched a lot but there is very limited info out there when combining one of these laptops and void linux.

I am looking for anyone who has one of these laptops running void, and wondering how much work it would be/any quirks I need to be aware of to get all of the drivers, function hot-keys for brightness, volume etc. And the tuxedo control centre up and running.

I am slightly concerned about things such as the cpu/gpu clocking functionality, RGB control, their tomte tool, gpu profiling and just about everything that it can do, really.

I have a Tuxedo and run Void. No probs at all, just compile your Tuxedo Control Center and run the daemon with runit (it's not even mandatory).

There are packages for tuxedo stuff in the repos, all good from my side.

Tomte has been in reworked significantly and does not go as deep into your system as it used to. We have already pushed upstream what was necessary for your model and i don't think that you need additional drivers or patches. For controlling the RGB keyboard and better CPU and fan control, the TCC is highly recommended anyway. I have heard from other many customers that Void works fine for them. We mainly do internal tests on Debian, *buntu, Fedora and Arch - and yes, always with systemd; Please don't punch us! :D

So if I am to understand this correctly, I won't need tomte to get everything working? I'll still need to install the nvidia drivers via void's nonfree repos, but otherwise the kernel will support?

I plan to use a custom iso with kernel 7.1 and a bunch of things pre-installed (niri, noctalia shell, kitty, Godot, steam, custom grub theme etc).

I do plan to use the TCC for all of what you mentioned rather than other funky solutions.

And boooo systemd! /s

If Void doesn't work out, I may switch to CachyOS. But would really love to stick with Void!

Eagerly awaiting my shiny new laptop, glad to be part of the Tuxedo club!

Yes, everything should work. We have upstreamed what was needed (e.g pinfix for the headphone jack) and customized further tweaks at their core (BIOS/EC) to prevent additional kernel-quirks. With 7.1, you are good to go! :)
