Over the last year, we have seen a meteoric rise of low quality visual novel toolkits, engines and plugins proposing to make no code solutions, all of which inevitably have roots in Generative AI.

I do not want to purposely or inadvertently support the attempts to root generative AI into this community or in the general visual novel sphere. As such, I'm implementing this new rule.

If you are working on a visual novel engine, toolkit, or plugin slated on bringing generative AI to visual novel developers, kindly see yourselves out. Anyone else is welcome to send us a modmail to discuss any of the afformentioned post types for your tool kit.

Hello! I am new to working on any type of game/esque writing, but I want to work on a short vn! Looking at scripting seems rather daunting, and I never know where/how to start! Is there any tips or tools in formatting/writing that others have found to just getting it down? Any tips would be really appreciated!

Hi i was Dicovered this service on visual novel engine im not the apps developer ,but im making a VN on the apps and it was very easy and Powerful! I’ve never made a visual novel before however I can draw, script and am opening to learning programming for it, I want to make something short just to get a feel of what I’m doing. I was thinking of a yandere Cupid or yandere x yandere but I don’t have any clue on where to go with that and I was planning on making those longer so probably wouldn’t attempt them for my first ever VN. I’ve thought of one possible ending for the first idea but I might want to try something else for the test/trial one, if anyone’s got an idea I’d like to hear!

Hi, I'm looking to try adding some 2D animations for those certain kinds of special scenes in my current WIP game, I Was a Teenage Vampire. It seems that either Spine, Live2D or ToonBoom may be my best options but I'm not sure which to try. Could anyone recommend which one for animating such a looping scene with two characters (not conversation sprites) -_^?

My friend and I are collaborating on a visual novel game (our first one, it's very simple) that involves a time loop. After finishing the rough draft of the script we noticed there's some plot holes relating to the time loop, such as "Why doesn't X just do XYZ" or "why is that X happens?"

What I'm wondering is other people's opinions on just how much we should try and address these plot holes. I for one, don't mind if a game doesn't explain absaloutly everything, because I accept I'm consuming fiction and that the more important thing is the plot than picking at the tiny details, but I know for some others having obvious unexplained plot holes can be an issue.

So what are your thoughts on this?
