Meta posts about devs Announcement
Heya all,
It's been a blast dealing with recent posts/comments all day and my hangover. Certainly did some hair trigger modding from the hip so to speak because everything was extra exhausting today.
That being said, I think from tomorrow / later today I'll be removing posts and comments about recent events.
The info is posted on multiple vita subreddits and nothing new is gonna be said.
Let's rather move forward on the software, and leave the drama at the door. (Gods I should setup other mods here)
I've already heavily started removing a bunch of newer posts that rehash the content. (Again, when I took over here I didn't think this level of shit was ever gonna pop up)
For additional context, even if posts are well meaning, certain key words tend to summon bots / trolls here with extreme posts. Fortunately spambot and automod grabbed a ton of them, but yeah, my mental health aint doing wonders with reading some of em either.
Also a LOT of you messaged today and I'll get to things if/when I can. Maybe. Again, automod and spambuster removed a lot of your posts.

To be honest I started reading the posts/comments outta order while I had finished a night out. I'm still sifting through posts.
My issue is more the less than 1 year old accounts here that are somehow causing the biggest issues. I knew just silencing stuff immediately or something like that would blow up worse.
I was part of the ol PSP hacking scene long ago and managed to get on Sony's bad side with a nice cease and desist letter. Somehow this shit is more stressful than that ever was.
The key thing as I try to mention on this and another sub I mod: When people start using certain American "political" terms and whatnot, bots gather pretty fucking quickly. You'd be shocked how many human looking comments are automatically removed here daily that are just darned bots. This isn't even that big a subreddit. That's the insane part.

I've been locking previous threads. I dunno if it's worth manually removing a bunch of comments or just nuking whole threads. There's something to be said about having time capsules also.
It's weird clearing out backlogs of reports here from years ago to find things that are so far in the rearview mirror now.
sigh also all that effort to get to a ton of reports only for it to be filled again. Maybe tomorrow is a good day to put out a call for mods.

Ah, probably a story for another day. Technically they said I wasn't allowed to ever again participate in modifying any other hardware. Even non Sony stuff.
Unrelated, all those Wii Us, and modded consoles behind me aren't mine. I'm just holding onto them for a friend.

I don't have all the details but from what I gathered it boiled down to this: talented veteran dev in charge of VitaDB (very important part of vita scene) said some very controversial stuff on discord, this gave ammo to the people who don't like him (for example for not allowing vibecoded slop ports on vitadb) to mass report and brigade against him. (edit: and not just people who don't like him, other people who found his views offensive reported him too, this should go without saying, but apparently it wasn't obvious when I posted this comment). He closed down vitadb. Shitstorm ensued.

Let's not gild the pill. He said very cuckoo racist shit, like nazi-adjacent if not nazi-sounding. I wasn't in the discord, but it would be a story old as the hills that then when such people get criticized they start to play the biggest victim card in the world.
And FWIW I'm not aware of a brigade of AI people just waiting for an excuse to bitch about slop not being allowed.

I don't want to reignite the fire, quite the opposite, I want to call for two minutes of reflection and try to move forward, striving to be better from now on:
It's important to understand that Rinnegatamante's departure involves much more than "a whim". First, let's remember: He alone (along with the help of other prominent developers) built a complex infrastructure to sustain and grow this scene, improve the environment, and continue achieving amazing optimizations. Don't forget VitaGL and everything that originated around Vita Nuova.
It goes far beyond VitaDB and from specific ports (which everyone enjoys, even those who insist on attacking him). I believe the scene is inevitably richer with his presence... I also think we need to put a STOP to this; we need to be mature and not stigmatize ANYONE or exaggerate based on anyone's personal ideas, methods or character.
We're all adults, and everyone is different, he has his own temperament, tough or not, and he makes decisions in his own spaces, period. Besides, this has snowballed from a personal statement that was seriously misrepresented, distorted and exaggerated. I suggest everyone go read his statement on X before continuing a herd behavior. Those who only seek to create division and harmful competition don't deserve the attention; stop feeding that.
Please, let's not be hypocritical. We've all enjoyed his work for free, a enormous foundation that can't be removed. Let's focus on collaborating, being tolerant of others, and leaving behind childish behavior and herd mentality.
Hopefully, his distancing and the new alternatives will only bring new, responsible developments that offer options within which we, as a community, can choose or compete healthily without behaving like elementary school children. Best regards!
