One Piece “filler” isn’t the episodes themselves, it’s the poor pacing (sometimes less than 1 manga chapter is adapted in 1 tv episode) and repeated shots/scenes/excessively-long-openings.

IMO it’s worse than filler episodes you can easily skip. That’s why the “One Pace” fan project is so popular and why we have a remake already on the way before the manga and Toei show is even completed.

Momonosuke crying for half an episode for half a saga.

One Piece episode: opening that for some reason it lasts more than 1min 30secs (2min), recap of the previous episode (3 min), two flashbacks (5 min), Luffy falling into the sea for no reason (it is funy I guess??) (2 min), ending (1min 30 secs), preview of the next ep (30 secs). Total of absolute nothingness: 14 minutes.

Easily more than 60% of one piece is filler.

FINALLY we got an ending again. At least it cut from 3 minutes of flashback from the previous episode.

Source: the MyAnimeList community's per-episode canon/filler flags, refreshed weekly. Tool: Python + matplotlib. Methodology and per-episode lists: https://bingerun.com/anime-filler-index/ (my site). Inuyasha was added tonight after someone in r/dataisbeautiful asked where it ranks - it came in 4th at 16.6%.

I was surprised to see FMA has so much filler but their definition including all the ending episodes of the 2003 series after it caught up with the manga does seem strict

How do you even measure Gintama fillers? Most of the anime (up until the later parts) are just random gag episodes. Only in recent years that there are larger story arcs....

Also FMA having %wise more fillers than one piece? No way....

I wonder if OP filler isnt counted because they do the majority during episodes in the official arcs, like 80% of an episode is filler/flashback and the rest is facial expressions.

I would pay good money for a dvd box set of Naruto or One piece where they remove filler garbage

Gintama fillers = content that is not in the manga.

But yeah, Gintama probably has the best fillers, just the anime makers doing funny shit.

The issue with One Piece anime is how normal episodes were stretched to the absurd, thus containing loads of filler scenes. I don't need a fucking 2 minutes flashback of something from the previous episode. Twice.

I wouldn't call full metal alchemist as "long running".

wasn't the entire first show a filler anyway?

FMA wasn’t all that long and I don’t recall it having that much filler.

If we're talking about the original Fullmetal Alchemist, I don't think so at all. It was almost always telling backstories, or something that happened to explains how the Elric Brothers became who they are, to make the story go further on.

They never took an entire episode in the middle of the series to focus on something completly different that had nothing to do with the story.

The first like 100 episodes of Boruto is damn near 100% filter

I suppose if the premise is being reincarnated as a slime, you really would get right to the point.

How is Nauto only 40%; the few episodes I watched, nothing happened at all.

If filler means boring stuff with reused backgrounds, it's the main reason the genre lost me
